Hey everyone, I know it's been a while but it's hard to make myself go use the internet. I have just had the best 12 days ever! I love it here so much. I have now finished my Open Water certification and my Advanced Open Water, and even did a Nitrox certification too. I love diving so much. I just got back from a deep dive to 30m, it was beautiful!! So my life has been party all night, dive all day for the last little while. If I'm not diving, I go for a big snorkel or relax on the dock. The courses are so relaxed and informal, but the instructors are still professional. It's cool because you can just sit out in the sun and listen to music while you're doing the theory. And ... read more

For a visit to the Caribbean coast I chose Utila. Already on the ferry boat I met a German guy and in the last moment before the ferry departure Freja and Mai, the Danish girls also came on bord. Together with Freja I took some dive lessons at cross creek divers and we both finished the Advanced Open Water Diver. From the nature point of view the underwaterworld in Utila is rather disappointing. Still we had god fun because of the course tasks and a wreck dive. Me and the German guy also stayed with cross creek divers. Their nice accomodation is build on a wooden platform over the lagoon of Utila. Small wooden houses with hammocks in the front give the place a laid back feeling. In general the island is a calm place. The ... read more

Hola friends, thought it´s about time for another update, although I really had to force myself to go use the internet today. Life has been good these last few days. I left San Pedro Sula the day after my last update and grabbed a bus to La Ceiba early in the morning. I had a nice pizza dinner out in San Pedro on my last night and then just hung around the hotel because it's too dangerous after dark. But the hotel staff were a little more friendly, and I got to practice some Spanish with them. I got up for an early breakfast and caught an early bus to La Ceiba. The bus ride from San Pedro to La Ceiba was one of the most beautiful I have been on. The forests were so lush ... read more

Hola Hola, The past two weeks have been very exiting! Mostly becuase of our stay in Utila, Honduras which is a large island in the Carrebean Sea and one of the many Bay Islands. We stayed at Oasis hotel. There we had a large swimming pool and a nice tiki bar. Our first night we went to a whale shark presentation. We learned alot about the shark. It grows to an average of 16 meters. Its mouth is as wide as a coffee table. It is identified by the spots around its face. It is not dangerous to swim with and is often seen when feeding on schools of small fish at the surface of the ocean. It may live to 150 years. This is figured by its annual growth rate from birth to adulthood. They ... read more

After leaving Granada we took a bus two hours to Managua which is a much bigger city and very modern. As we pulled up to our hostel a man quickly helped us with our bags and rushed us within the hostel gates. We checked into a very small room with a tv and were told not to go out of the gates because it is very dangerous and ¨they¨ will put a knife to your throat and rob you. The sun was setting and we had about an hour of sunlight left so we decided to get dinner before dark. The man that helped us with our bags escorted us to a restaurante on the corner and we invited him to eat with us. The entire conversation revolved around him talking about women and their beautiful ... read more

Here are some more dive photos from my second time in Roatan with Lorna, completing my Advanced Open Water course. We saw many weird and wonderful things in the sea including an octapus, giant starfish, baracudas, more turtles, and on my last day a shark as big as me! On one of the dives several giant Grouper fish followed us around and allowed us to pet them - they look hilarious with their fat lips and curious eyes (see photo below!). I'm proud to say I completed 23 dives this holiday. I'm afraid I'm hooked, but unfortunately neither England nor Canada are known for its dive sites. I may have to return to the Caribbean some time soon...... read more

Roatan is like a magnet. I ended up spending almost 2 weeks there, which cut into my Guatemala trip but I was having such a great time I just couldn´t leave. Lorna stayed 4 days, until Saturday after which her 2 weeks were up and she (sadly) headed back to London, and I stayed on in Roatan taking my time to complete the Advanced Open Water qualification. We stayed at the lovely Posado Arco Iris (where I´d stayed with James) and we absolutely loved our room which was so different to the awful room we had in La Ceiba! We basically swam and dived each day, and enjoyed sunsets at Sundowners sipping Monkey La Las with our friend Calvin and others we´d meet along the way. It was Pura Vida. On Lorna´s last day we´d decided ... read more

So the last time I wrote I was sipping a Margarita on the beach. Today I am on the Honduran mainland visiting the Copan Ruins but will now recap my week in Roatan before recounting today´s events. Basically my daily routine on Roatan consisted of a dive or two in the morning and/or afternoon, followed by some swimming in the sea, then a cocktail or three at Sundowners (a beach bar with good toons) to admire the sunset with newly acquired friends, then a shower followed by a lovely seafood dinner and a nightcap. What more could a girl ask for in life? This was also James´s routine but substitute the diving for snorkelling, sun and exploring the Island. I´ll give James credit though - for someone who hates live fish and doesn´t take kindly to ... read more

On April 7th I finally became a certified Open Water Diver (yay!), and sadly I´m hooked because there isn´t that much diving in England or Montreal to be had. We saw turtles, dolphins, baracudas, a king crab, millions of vibrantly coloured fish, lobsters, groupers, squids, and swam through amazing coral canyons. I went on 7 dives in total and here are some pics to illustrate the beautiful Land of Nemo I was fortunate to witness (and also all the silly people I went diving with!). ... read more
