At 0900 hours we were in the Grenada Yacht Club. This is where Customs and Immigration office are located. Is just a hop and a skip from our boat. The fees were $25 US or $66.20 EC. We paid in EC money. There is a VHF cruisers net at 0730 hours, which we listen to, finding out that Island World Chandlery has a coffee, book and video exchange this morning. So off we were for parts unknown again, another dinghy dock we spotted in front of the chandlery. We found out there is a 38 per cent duty tax at the chandlery, so we gave them a copy of our documentation and cruising permit, this will exempt us from the tax on any purchases. We did book exchange and spoke to cruisers, some we had not ... read more

We arrived in St. George July 3. We were heading for Tobago Cays this morning, when Maribel went below to listen to Chris Parker. Well dang, Chris changed his mind from yesterday's forecast. Chris said this is going to be a tropical depression, and everyone should be in a safe anchorage by Wednesday night. So we did a 180, headed for Mayreau, then Union Island in order to check out from the Grenadines. After anchoring in Union Island, a fellow sailor offered to give Pete a ride into dinghy dock, so we didn't have to drop ours. According to Pete, it was a short 5 minute walk. No checkout fees. We left Union around 0930 hours. We spoke on the VHF with Sea Schell, who was ahead of us, Harry told us he hugged the coast ... read more

5-20 Hotel: Best Western South Plaza, Grand Anse, Grenada, $105 Flight: St Vincent (SVD) to Grenada (GND), LIAT The flight to Grenada was pretty quick; too bad it was at night as you could not see the Grenadines below. Scott got off the plane for a minute just to say he touched Grenada then got back on to continue to Trinidad, where I would be meeting them the next evening. I caught a cab (40EC) into Grand Anse town, there were many more tourists here than in St Vincent! It was already after 9PM when I had a quick dinner of Grenadian jerk pork which was quite spicy! There was a group of Venezuelans sitting at the table next to mine. Grenada (yes, the place Reagan invaded) was hit pretty hard by hurricane Ivan back ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Grenada » Grenada April 23rd 2007

So our plan for today was to take the ferry to Carricau (spelling??) and spend yet another day relaxing on the beautiful white sand beaches, however it proved to expensive and was cheapert o hire a car for the day. It pays to know the locals as our now good friend Max hooked us up with one of our many contacts who gave us a car for the day for $70 NZ - bargain. With Dan behind the wheel and four girls slightly squashed in the back we hooned (the only way they drive here) around most of the island in one day. Poor Ron stayed behind as he has got some crazy allergy (we think) and had been at hospital the night before but they were useless. He is much better today as i am ... read more

Grenada is a small island in the southern Caribbean situated one hundred miles north of Venezuela with a population of just over 100,000. We brought with us stylish wigs & costumes for the various games which would prove invaluable. Not only did they act as a c... read more

Well whilst the Girls kicked back and had massages by some mystery "blind person", we decided to try and explore the island as much as possible within the day. Scooters were out intended means of transportation, so we left at about 1030am on the bus to what was our local scooter place. Apon arriving we made our way to the reception passing the open sign to be greated with an open office with evertything that could be powered by a plug switched on, but no staff present. Seeming a little weird we called the number on the front of the building on a local's phone to find out that yes indeed the office was closed untill 4pm. This provides some indication of the local mentality, not a care in the world unfortuanatly being a boy from ... read more

Well some of us made it to TV3 news if anyone was watching the day after the cricket. Dan and Ron are making some very switched on statements towards the end of this clip about the cricket result, they are the two drunks in black singlets. I think the rest of us may be visible walking past in the background when the two beige brigaders are being interviewed but cant get a high enough resolution screen here to check it out properly. If you missed it heres the link: http://www.tv3.co.nz/Home/Video/Display/tabid/266/articleID/25535/Default.aspx?src=email#vidlist25535 cheers to dan's family for pointing it out and his mate at TV3 for making it happen :) three days left in grenada, the boys have hired scooters today and are doing the island that way and the girls have just all had 1/2 hour swedish ... read more

Blogger Becca What could have been a good game, turned into the biggest loss in NZ one day history. Another white wash! Bond out with a gastric upset and Oram with a bruised heel - bugger. AT the end of the day, NZ still have the best looking team in the world. Bond, scorching. Oram, pretty hot. Vettori - hot. Gillespie - hot. Franklin - steaming. Gives us all a respite from Punter and Gilly (though we all still love them, just not in "that" way.) We were on TV.... read more

Sorry that we have been MIA for so long but since hitting grenada about 10 days ago we have been pretty busy catching some rays, sailing our yacht and meeting all of the men on the island. Odds here are ridiculous. It seems there arent a lot of single girls making the trip to the cricket world cup. Fools. We have just had the best day sailing our yacht the Moana Roa and we say goodbye to the yacht tomorrow when we check into some accommo on Grand Anse Beach. Thought you guys would like to know the level of fever pitch we have reached for tomorrow's game, particularly after we have made mates with most of the island already, including the black caps. Lets just say watching cricket will never be the same again. Had ... read more
