Yesterday we took a jeep-boat-jeep (aka cramped van-boat-another cramped van...) to Monteverde from La Fortuna. Monteverde is amazing and sooo green. We are literally in the clouds. We ate lunch in a huge tree (yup, for real, a real live tree) and then the clouds stared rolling in and it started to pour! so there we were, just eating..in a tree...in a cloud, and not even getting wet b/c of all the leaves! amazing! today we woke up early and went to the Monteverde Cloud Forest for ziplining, treetop bridge walks, and a visit to the biggest butterfly garden in Central America at 29,000 sq. feet. They were huge! and very pretty... we even had a guide who would pick them up and show us the differences. they even landed on him while we walked around. ... read more

Manuel Antonio is a perfect place to get your fill of both beach and rain forest. It's definitely touristy, but it also maintains that small beach town feel. A little bit of everything...I loved it! We went 3 weekends ago so this entry is coming rather late, but I'll see what I can muster up from my memory. The bridge over a river leading into Quepos, the town next to Manuel Antonio, was damaged so we were delayed for a few hours while cars went across 1 by 1. We couldn't even walk across the mere 40-foot wide river because the pedestrian bridge was washed away. But we finally got to our hotel, Hotel Verde Mar, and were greeted by crabs in our kitchen sink and shower, and the biggest, brightest green grasshopper I've ever ... read more

We headed to the beach on Tuesday to spend a couple of days with our beach buddies and check out their recently finished house. The house looked great. The two of them did a great job on everything from construction to decorating. We felt everything very well thought out and nicely done. It was good getting tips from them on do's & don'ts in construction. We arrived early which left the day open for Callista, Bill & Bear to hit the beach. We learned there is a difference in types of boogie boards. Beach people know this, we didn't. Ours were just standard every day boogie boards. T & E had found some with a smoother bottom. The verdict from Bill & Calli is buy the better ones, the ride is worth it! We'll be ... read more

We just got done with one of the great trips of all time! We left for Isla Tortuga at 615 in the morning on Sunday. We first stoped for breakfast in a Town called San Ramon where we had a typical Costa Rican breakfast of Gallo Pinto (rice and black beans) along with fruit, eggs, and juice. At San Ramon we saw a Tucan and also a Butterfly garden. San Ramon was about an hour from the cost. We arrived at Puntoarenas around 900 and left on a huge tamaran boat. The ride was about 1 and half hours and when we arrived at the island we swam and had a great lunch. It seemed like we just got done winning a reward chalenge on Survior because it was an isolated island with no hotels, ... read more

Well, it's probably time that we update you all so you know what you're missing! Our first night in San Jose was difficult. Nobody spoke english! Big surprise tho, right? It finally hit us that we were here alone...and we can do whatever we want! SO, we ate from the street vendors and drank the water (and cerveca) and even tried fresh squeezed limon juice (tastes like oranges!). The next morning we hopped a bus to Puntarenas (aka the butthole of costa rica...yeah...) and hitched a ferry to Paquera. We met this couple from Sweden who were travelling to Montezuma also, so we caught a cab with a one-legged driver to the city. Fastest drive ever, AND we got a minus-one-leg discount!! He was great, he slammed on the breaks s we could see all ... read more

Would it be redundant if I were to say that my friends and I had ANOTHER fantastic weekend? Well, my apologies, but yes- we had another fantastic weekend. This time (just us five girls) made the adventurous journey to Montezuma, a bohemian town on the southern coast of the Nicoya Peninsula (which is the North Western peninsula of Costa Rica). It was our first trip to the western side of the country and, sadly, our last trip together in CR. But we geared up, stocked up on snacks(I stocked up on drammamine) for the looong journey everyone kept warning us about, and we were off once again. The trip to Montezuma was made up of a 2 1/2 hour bus ride from San Jose to Puntarenas, where we purchased tickets for the 1 1/2 hour ... read more

I met Karen and two of her sisters in Puerto Viejo Costa Rica. I had been there before and tried to tell them a place to meet me, hoping it was still there after three years. It didn't end up being a problem as the town is super small and I saw them getting off the bus. It was so great to see Karen and be traveling with her once again. It was also great to meet and hang out with her sisters. All four of us had a blast, painting all the towns some lovely shades of red! We stayed two days in Puerto Viejo, hanging on the beach and playing in the waves and just taking in Costa Rica. From there we went to Cahuita where a pool was high on our priorities. ... read more

After leaving Orlando at 2 a.m and having the enjoyable experience of the boards flipping off the roof on the turnpike at 80 mph. We have a pretty nice trip to Miami and got there in a few hours. Traveling with surfboards is kind of like dragging a coffin around the airport, try it sometime for fun and then go back home. We attempted to shorten our time there with me dropping off Arisa and Midori so that I could take the car back while they ¨beat the crowds¨at the counter. When I arrived to find them, they were at the end of a line that was about 30´long. It also was the wrong line. We managed to drag and bust through lines to get to the right place, before getting to figure out the ... read more

We were in the mood for a little adventure, so we decided to descend upon the least developed area of Costa Rica, the Oso Peninsula. Just before we left Panama we learned of a place called Bolita on the Oso Peninsula near Puerto Jimenez. This magical paradise requires a stunning, steep hike up from a nearby town to Bolita during which you traverse a small river a couple of times. The hike is not too tough, but with a heavy pack on it was a bit trying. Essentially, Bolita is a cabin in the middle of the jungle with about 15 acres of hiking trails, a couple of waterfalls, gas stove burners, and toilets with running water. It shares a border with Corcovado National Park, which we had been planning on visiting. However, we found ... read more
