Ireland!

Europe » Ireland » County Galway » Galway
Yes!
Yes!
We found the Cliffs of Moher.
We arrived on the Emerland Isle on Sunday night. After a few flight delays we were wondering if we were going to get here, but we did. No overnights in the airport like last year! We took a bus to Galway on Monday and belive we have landed at one of the most festive places in Ireland! If it wasnt obvious by our huge GREEN plane with a countdown to St. Pat's day, then it was here in Galway. That was very evident to us last night as we were sitting in an Irish pub listening to an awesome Irish band [View Full Entry]

Prost a Munich!

 Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich
We have been in Munich for 3 days now and it certainly has lived up to it´s claim as one of the most fun cities in Europe. Probably our favorite activity was taking a 4 and a half hour bike tour around the city where we learned a lot about the history of Munich and went to a biergarten which is a must while you are in Germany. The bikes we took out were pretty interesting. Imagine your first bike, complete with back pedal breaks, and triple it in size. Apparently you never forget how to ride a bike, but learning [View Full Entry]

Biking in Austria
Look out Sarah, Odin and Christine . . . we are in training in Europe.
Guten tag! We arrived in Austria on Monday after a busy day of travel. We had breakfast in Paris, France and lunch in Munich, Germany and we ended the day with supper in Salzburg, Austria. The Austrian food we had was very hearty and delicious, and fun to try and pronounce. Schweinsbraten (Pork and dumplings) for SJ and a solid weinerschnitzl for Andy (deep fried pork)!! Salzburg is a very small city compared to where we have been and it seems very calm and not busy. Yesterday we explored the city, which included finding the pretzel stand that sold huge doughy [View Full Entry]

GONDALA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So fun!
Venice was absolutely amazing! We had heard about Venice from friends who had traveled there before and also had seen it on movies (ie Indiana Jones, Just Married, and more) but we both were still surprised when it lived up to its lofty reputation. It really is just how it is suppose to look... a city with canals as it's roads! When we were taking train into town we were reading about this water bus that you had to take from the train station to down town and we both thought it was something like the ducks at Wisconsin Dells . On top of the world....
On top of the world....
or at least on top of the Harder Klum climb
We arrived this morning in Switzerland and it is possibly the most beautiful place in the world... it has our vote! The anticipation was buliding as we were riding the train through the Alps and every city we came upon had beautiful views of the mountains, cute white and brown houses and super green lawns. When we thought it could not get any better, we arrived in Interlaken. We stepped off the train and could instantly tell we were not in downtown Rome! The air smelled SO good and clean! Then we crossed the bridge to get to our hostel and [View Full Entry]

Ciao di Pompei

 Europe » Italy » Campania » Pompei
Our new house?
Our new house?
Here we are peeking out of a typical Roman dwelling in Pompei
Yesterday we took a train to Southern Italy to see the ancient city Pompei, which was buried by volcanic ash 2,000 years ago. I guess the phrase "getting there is half the fun" would have to apply to our long adventure yesterday. BUT, we made it and now have a real good understanding of train and metro stations! Pompei was unique because it was preserved by the ash and so looks very similar to how it was way back when the Romans wondered around during the Roman empire. We were glad Mount Vesuvius did not errupt while we were there since [View Full Entry]

Buon giorno a Italia!

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
Well Andy had to do some major convincing to get me to leave the island! We spent the last couple days swimming in the Med and enjoying some super Aegean sun. (We are not too burnt surprisingly!) It was hard to leave a place where relaxation came so easy and people watching was at an ultimate high (imagine old Greek men changing their speedos and hanging them out to dry each time they came out of the sea... I think they each bring about 5 speedos). We definitely got used to life on the beach and enjoyed some great Greek cuisine [View Full Entry]

Off the beaten path
Off the beaten path
Here is a random beach we found while driving the 4 wheeler . . . we had to climb and hike to get here but the water felt good when we got there.
After a few days on the island we think we may have mastered the art of relaxation! This is such a unique place we are absolutely loving it here!! We arrived Sunday early morning after a 26 minute puddle jumper flight over here from Athens. Yesterday we hit up the beach and just swam and layed in beach chairs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. As if laying on a beach isn't relaxing enough, here in Santorini they have BEDS and COUCHES with huge fluffy pillows right on the beach! It's a dream come true!! Our hotel is right on the Sea and [View Full Entry]
