We arrived this morning in Switzerland and it is possibly the most beautiful place in the world... it has our vote! The anticipation was buliding as we were riding the train through the Alps and every city we came upon had beautiful views of the mountains, cute white and brown houses and super green lawns. Venice was absolutely amazing! We had heard about Venice from friends who had traveled there before and also had seen it on movies (ie Indiana Jones, Just Married, and more) but we both were still surprised when it lived up to its lofty reputation. It really is just how it is suppose to look... a city with canals as it's roads! Yesterday we took a train to Southern Italy to see the ancient city Pompei, which was buried by volcanic ash 2,000 years ago. I guess the phrase "getting there is half the fun" would have to apply to our long adventure yesterday. BUT, we made it and now have a real good understanding of train and metro stations! Pompei was unique because it was preserved by the ash and so looks very similar to how it was way back when the Romans wondered around during the Roman empire. Well Andy had to do some major convincing to get me to leave the island! We spent the last couple days swimming in the Med and enjoying some super Aegean sun. (We are not too burnt surprisingly!) It was hard to leave a place where relaxation came so easy and people watching was at an ultimate high (imagine old Greek men changing their speedos and hanging them out to dry each time they came out of the sea... After a few days on the island we think we may have mastered the art of relaxation! This is such a unique place we are absolutely loving it here!! We arrived Sunday early morning after a 26 minute puddle jumper flight over here from Athens. Yesterday we hit up the beach and just swam and layed in beach chairs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. As if laying on a beach isn't relaxing enough, here in Santorini they have BEDS and COUCHES with huge fluffy pillows right on the beach! It's a dream come true!! After one day we are thinking we may just stay in Athens for our whole trip . . . this town is awesome! Athena and Zeus have welcomed us very nicely! Yesterday after leaving our blogging audience we went for lunch at a little greek restaurant and had a huge meal. As advertised Steph had her Greek Salad and I had a solid Gyro . . . and I never thought a Gyro could taste so good. Oh yes . . . that is right . . . they don't speak Spanish in Greece so llegamos does not mean anything here! At any rate, we made it here safe and sound to Athens and everything has worked out real smoothly so far. A few honeymoon perks . . . first we got upgraded to first class on our flight to NYC. 10. Our morning wake up call... cockadoodledoo and the bright CR sun 9. Our walk to school everyday and gaining catlike reflexes dodging traffic 8. La fruta... especialmente la piña, mango, y bananos 7. Gallopinto... who would have thought rice and beans for breakfast would be so good 6. Incredible views of the mountains and paisaje everywhere you look 5. On Saturday we had breakfast at a little restaurant in Monteverde and then headed to La Fortuna, another pueblo about 25 miles away where there is an active volcano called Volcan Arenal. Transportation is pretty interesting here as we are learning! In order to get to La Fortuna, we took a 'jeep-boat-jeep' taxi. Basically, since the roads between the 2 cities are pretty much piles of rocks and potholes, we road in this 'jeep' to get to a lake. There we hopped on a boat which took us across the lake.
