Checking in from the Carribean coast, chillin in the small town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, just a little ways up from the border of Panama. I got into town a few days ago, and have been just lounging ever since. The town is pretty small, right on the ocean with a huge surf spot, Salsa Brava, right out front. I am staying at the coolest hostel I have ever imagined, Rockin J's, THE place to be down here. There are tons of other travelers staying here, with accomodations ranging from tents, to the hammock hotel, to shared cabins and even a treetop room that you climb 100 feet up to. There are travelers here from all over the world, and English is by far the least used language. Just sitting in the common area you ... read more

Good morning all. 6 days until i´m back in the states on August 15th. The power just went out here while i was finishing up my blog, so i lost it all, and now i´m just gonna summarize what i had written before. Friday night went to a bar called "VYRUS" with my family and some friends. One guy´s name was wally. Wally made me do shots of whiskey with him. After bar, went to wally´s pad and sang spanish kareoke, it was awkward. Didn´t get to bed until 2 am. Got up at 4 am to go to limon. Limon was full of swedes and german travelers for the weekend. its like a whole different country. they don´t speak english there. Its some combination of spanish/french/and english called patwau?... Lots of ex-patriots as well, who ... read more

After a few very chilled out days in Bocas del Toro - which we absolutely loved, we decided to have a few more days on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, here in Puerto Viejo. The trip from Bocas wasn't long; a 50 minute watertaxi ride to Finca60, a short busride to Sixaola (the bordercrossing to Costa Rica). We got there during lunchhour, so the border was closed for half an hour or so. Only in Costa Rica do they actually CLOSE the border for lunch! Which meant a short wait (even though we knew this might happen, it still wasn't worth getting up an hour earlier :) ) Then we had to cross a slightly dodgy looking bridge to get to the Costa-Rican side. It looked like a railtrack, wooden planks crossed over each other, ... read more

I pet my first sloth, J of Rockin Js happened to be clearing up some brush when the little thing fell out of a tree a good 30 feet. I had been up on the Tree house at the time writing in my journal. I unfortunately have no photos of it just video you can see it when I get home. So J and another worker carried it in on a large branch, so that the wild dogs would leave it alone. After release on the tree in the center of reception we had a chance to carefully pet and snap a few photos (amidst warnings of Please don’t use the flash these animals are nocturnal, flash cameras fired away.) within 10 mins the sloth had climbed the entire reception area roof and was back in ... read more
