I am not actually on Caye Caulker, but I was yesterday and so for the sake on the map tracking thing I though I would post as if i were. City. The Island was about a 45 minute boat trip out form Belize City. Needless to say it was a rough ride, particularly after a heavy night with a Texan named Libby who drunk spirits like it was chilled water on a hot afternoon! The Island itself was very very small though teaming with travelers. Besides the fact it was tromendously expensive, I had a great time. Again like much of my trip so far it was a solitary event, and I wrote a new song while paddling in the tepid sea water. That was of course, untill the tiny fish took a real liking to ... read more

After 6 days on the mainland, in the rainforest, we finished up our last 3 remaining days on the beautiful sandy beaches of the Ambergris Caye, in San Pedro. The island is higher class than the rest of the mainland, and more Americanized. The water was clear blue and green and warm, like in the 70s. Absolutely picturesque. To get around on the island, everyone uses golf carts. The only real vehicles are taxi cabs and construction vehicles. Not as fast paced as our time in San Ignacio, but so nice. We spent most of the time lounging in chairs on the sand, sitting in the shade of palm trees. We did go snorkeling at Shark Ray Alley. It was amazing, we saw so many fish, sea turtles, stingrays, and nurse sharks. Lupe help a stingray, ... read more

We've been on Caye Caulker for the last few days now. just enjoying the island's slow pace and chillax atmosphere. On the way here the water taxi made a 5 second stop at Caye Chapel, which is an island that is just an golf course. you always here about these things and wonder if they actually exist. well they do-- for $1200 US a night. we're staying in a shack on the seaside with a rather sketchy dock. there is lots of shade to find (now that we are fairly sun burnt) and just enjoy the breeze and scenery. Yesterday we went on a full day snorkelling tour on a sail boat! it was lots of fun--- although I (Megan) was feeling slightly seasick, which was not so much fun. We snorkelled at the reef ... read more

So, the last we left you we were on our way to Belize. The backpacker island of Caye Caulker to be exact (pronounced key). Well, we kept reading and hearing how incredibley expensive Belize is so we were a little worried when we ended up having 6 days left there instead of the planned 3 or 4 days. We caught a bus from Flores that nicely avoided Belize City and dropped us off right in front of the water taxi. Rod and a couple of other people took off for the bank and managed to run back with mere moments to spare. Excellent timing. It was a beautifully hot day perfect for redeeming my tan on the hour boat ride to the Caye. After the boat we are now off on our very last hotel ... read more

You know your somewhere a little bit different when your told off for walking too fast...."go slow man!!"....as you do!....Caye Caulker is a great little island in the Carribbean jst off the coast from Belize, that basically revolves around diving and eating fresh fish off the bbq....suited us to a tee....there are no cars there and evryone drives about in golf carts or on bicycles. We basically spent our time there chilling out, relaxing, hiring some golf carts to tour the island and eating plenty of sea food which we've taken quite a liking to. Trying to whene ourselves off the old fly ridden yellow chickens over here. We headed out on our 3 rd day there on a snorkelling sailing trip, taking us to three different sites....coral garden, shark and ray alley and cant remember ... read more

Op n bepaald moment ... read more

Toen is KingZ gedurende 5 seconden afgelopen, want daarna onderbrak ze hem al met 'I don't wanna argue with you'. (KingZ: ' ze had gewoon chance dat mijne kop er zo vroeg nog niet naar stond... - ... read more

to steal another line from aaron "you better belize it!" we're in caye caulker in belize right now which is a welcome and relaxing change. not that costal mexico was in any way hectic, but i like it here. last i wrote, i think i was in playa del carmen maybe? i dunno. maybe isla muejres. in any case, we went to playa del carmen and it was gross. the beach was nice, but the hostel was kinda crap and the main drag is almost worse tourist wise than cancun. the next day we headed to tullum with our full car. brendan and i, also maarten and rene from hollan and belkis from venezuela. we spent 3 nights in cabans on the beach. it was a lovely time, though i managed to get pretty badly sunburnt. ... read more

I picked up this book called “The Historian” by Elizabeth Kostova in the Cancun airport without knowing what it was about. It ended up being this amazing book (so far) that is along the lines of “Da Vinci Code”. Instead of following the bloodline of Jesus through Western Europe, this book follows the history of Vlad the Impaler (the real-life Count that was the basis of Bram Stoker’s Dracula character) through Eastern Europe. About 100 pages into the book I came across this quote that pretty much sums up why I always have to go somewhere new every time I travel. “…I have often known that peculiar legacy time brings to a traveler: the longing to seek out a place for a second time, to find deliberately what we stumbled on once before, to recapture the ... read more
