so here we are, in the legendary Zihuatanejo. you may remember it from such films as the shawshank redemption. you know, where he goes at the end. i apologize if i am spoiling the end of that movie for anyone, but seriosuly, if you havent seen it, you´re probably a cinematic idiot anyway. no offence. yesterday we drove from puerto escondido to a little place called pie de la cuesta. its just laittle ways north of acapulco. acapulco was really hard to drive through and the outskits were pretty dirty. the center looked a lot like LA, complete with drug violence. pie de la cuesta was a lot quiter and relaxing. brendna got kinda sick though and he puked up his dinner. in the meantime, i hung out with a montreal couple and some guys from ... read more

back in mexico, and its nice to be sort of home. belize was awesome and i had some sweet real carriebean experiences. still its good to be bakc in mexico. it was even better to find that our car, which we left for 5 days in a random mexican parking lot, was still where we left it. whgat a relief. unfortunately, i am a fool and have not worn sunscreen for the past 5 days. i though i cvould beat the sun. i was wrong and not i´m really hot and burnt and its annoying. still, i give 2 thumbs up to caye caulker. i even bought presents. presents for my sister and ryan and dann. everyone else needs a reason for a present if the want one. tomorrow we´re heading off to palenque. shoudl be ... read more

to steal another line from aaron "you better belize it!" we're in caye caulker in belize right now which is a welcome and relaxing change. not that costal mexico was in any way hectic, but i like it here. last i wrote, i think i was in playa del carmen maybe? i dunno. maybe isla muejres. in any case, we went to playa del carmen and it was gross. the beach was nice, but the hostel was kinda crap and the main drag is almost worse tourist wise than cancun. the next day we headed to tullum with our full car. brendan and i, also maarten and rene from hollan and belkis from venezuela. we spent 3 nights in cabans on the beach. it was a lovely time, though i managed to get pretty badly sunburnt. ... read more

i dont have anything to report really. we're on isla mujeres. we came across with a girl from the netherlands anda girl from venezuela. brendan has been hangin out with them driving around the island, but as for me, i'm just kind of kicking back and doing my own thing. its been nice so far. very warm and our hostel is right ona beach. they have a beach bar that opens at 11pm. after a nap yesterday i went for a few drinks, but i couldnt really get into it. i suppose i'm not a huge beach guy maybe. though i do thoughoughly enjoy the hammocks. even more so if they are in the shade. not that it really matters, as my sunscreen could save me from a nuclear explosion. only been burnt once. good for ... read more

well in cancun now. not sure what to think. the roads coming in have been pretty bad actualy. in town its alright though. we hung out in campeche for a couple days and then moved down the road to valladolid. a nice small town, which was a nice change of pace from the cities we´ve been in. the hostel was great. we also met up with a canadian couple we´d met a couple days before in campeche. the area around the town was surround by cennotes, which are pool of water in cavenrs that lead to undergçround rivers. i got some good pitures and i´ll post a few soon enough. we visted 3. i swam in one. it was quite nice. full of weird little fish. we also went to chetchen itza. it was nice but ... read more

not much new really. we only staye din xalapa one night. it turns out brendan took so long because the traffic is so terribel and it took so long to find a spot that he got a little lost. so the next day we headed to villahermosa, in the state of tabasco. strange little gas town, very very busy. so busy that at 10 pm, they started doing constuction oustide our window. it had a hammock though, so i didnt mind. spend most of today driving to camphece, and this is the best place yet. the old otwn is surrounded by a wall and its very old and colonial. very clean. now i havent seen many white people on this tripe. suddenly they are everywhere. and they all look like holland america tourists. our hostel is ... read more

well here we are again. sinc ei last wrote i think we were in monterrey. that was quite a bit of fun, but we had to move on so we hit the open road. driving in mexico does take alot of attention and can be exausting but we´re doign alright. which is to say brendan is doing alright, as i´m far to petrified to drive. we made it to ciudad victoria the first night. didnt do much there. just got some food and watched the super bowl in spanish. the next day (yesterday) we drove all day. we skipped over tampico..or tried to. we got lost in a little village for a while. we wanted to make it to el tajin runis but it was too late by the tiem we rolled b, so we continued ... read more

good lord. downi in mexico, and its been a strange couple days. well, not really strange. just different. yesterday we drove to brownsville TX and hung out there. nice little town on the border. we were worried about how to get all of our stuff in order like our car permit and toursit cards, but tthe guy at the brownsville tourist center straigtened us out good. so we drove across this morning into matamoros. we took out some pesos and started looking for the highway. then a guy from the mexican tourism board offered to jump in our car and show us, which was good because it was complicated. the only drag was he wanted 400 pesos for it. ($40) but we begrudgingly paid. the roads were a little wild at first but the main high ... read more
