Dustin & Lupe

Dustin Lupe

We are Dustin and Lupe, from Hanford, CA. We have 3 dogs. Both of us work in law enforcement, which is how we met.
We decided to have a small wedding, so we were married in Belize on top of the Mayan temple Xunantunich, almost a year ago. We like to travel and have many more trips in the works. We just got back from Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, and now we are going on a cruise for our 1 year anniversary. We are going on to Cozumel, Mexico, George Town, Grand Cayman Islands, Roatan, Honduras, and returning to Belize.

We flew through the night from Los Angeles to Guadalajara. It was extremely cheap to upgrade to first class so we did so, it was so nice. It spoils you for when you eventually have to fly again in economy. Lupe's brother and father picked us up at the airport. There was actually a Starbucks in the airport, a nice surprise. We jumped in the truck and headed to Tequila. It was so cool, and yes, full of tequila. It was rough trying to enjoy everything, while trying to stay awake. Then drinking tequila at a factory, does not help. Every store you go to, they are willing to give you samples of tequila, aka shots for free. ... read more

After 6 days on the mainland, in the rainforest, we finished up our last 3 remaining days on the beautiful sandy beaches of the Ambergris Caye, in San Pedro. The island is higher class than the rest of the mainland, and more Americanized. The water was clear blue and green and warm, like in the 70s. Absolutely picturesque. To get around on the island, everyone uses golf carts. The only real vehicles are taxi cabs and construction vehicles. Not as fast paced as our time in San Ignacio, but so nice. We spent most of the time lounging in chairs on the sand, sitting in the shade of palm trees. We did go snorkeling at Shark Ray Alley. It was amazing, we saw so many fish, sea turtles, stingrays, and nurse sharks. Lupe help a stingray, ... read more

We went down a bumpy road like the one we went down for Barton Creek Cave to do a hike through the rainforest. We went through caves and over vines. No animals were seen, since it is the dry season and the animals are by water. In the rainy season, more animals are out and the jungle is dark, since all the trees have their leaves. We continued to the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve to go to Rio on Pools. The pools are slippery, I should know first hand. As I slipped immediately, even with water shoes on. The water was perfect temperature. After a long ride, we came back to the resort to lounge by the pool and relax. Tomorrow will be a travel day for half the party, while the other three will ... read more

The wedding was amazing, something you only see pictures of and think that you cannot actually do that. We got lucky that it was overcast in the morning, so it kept it a little cooler and had a nice breeze. When the Sun would come out, it got hot quick. 2 cruise ships were visiting the site and gave us some great encouragement. People could not believe we were getting married up there. We changed in vacant rooms on the temple. Our minister could not make it up the steps, so we yelled our vows. It was hard with the wind blowing in our ears. The pictures are perfect, we could not ask for more. We are both so happy with how it turned out. On the way back, we were able to find some ... read more

We went to Xunantunich, pronounced Shoe-nan-tune-itch, it was absolutely beautiful so we decided we will have our wedding there tomorrow, it has spectacular views of the Cayo District in Belize and the border of Guatemala. After that, we went to Belmopan to get the required licenses and forms so we could get married tomorrow. The capital is so small but everyone is real friendly and supportive. We went back to the resort to wait for my father. From there we went down a long bumpy road to Barton Creek Cave, where we canoed into a beautiful cave. The bats were still asleep and the light that was being operated by a car battery seemed to be dying. It was a great time, except I had a problem steering. It was neat going through the Mennonite ... read more

We had a rough night in our first night. Lupe woke up at 3 and found a large rodent in the bathroom, she ran to the bed and woke me up. I closed all of the luggage and went back to sleep, I was not going to stick my hand under the bed. On our first full day in Belize, we took a day trip to Tikal, Guatemala, it took a 3 hr ride from San Ignacio to Tikal. The interesting part about crossing the border from Belize to Peten, Guatemala is that you are allowed to bring firearms, ammunition, and explosives, but not produce, meat, animals, or agriculture. Once we were driving through Guatemala, the red triangles with yellow dots, stating DIA was everywhere, on rocks, and trees, it is suppose to be the ... read more

Once we arrived in Belize City, we immediately were scammed by the porters, they take your bags fpr a fee of $2 BZE per bag to take right out. We had a driver waiting for us and had to wait for Lupe's parents to arrive. We had a delicious lunch at Global Spice on the 2nd floor of the Goldsmith Airport. We took a 2 hr drive to San Ignacio. We got to relax and think of the adventures to come. The town is very quiet and the rainforest is not loud, we were hoping for more noise. I forgot the cord for the digital camera to connect to the computer, so that no pictures will be posted until we return. Well got to go to our next activity, until then......... read more

Only three days left before we leave for our vacation/wedding/honeymoon. It is difficult trying to get everything done, as I still have school and my 2nd job teaching, and both of us are working. Luckily, we do not have a reception to worry about right now, in 2 weeks it will all be about the reception and planning our next vacation. Who knows where and when, we will have to wait to see if we want tropical or what, depends how much we like Belize and Guatemala. So much to do so little time. Can't wait for Friday and on our way, so I can be done with all of this stress. ... read more
