How busy is it in Belize around Christmas?
14 years ago, July 12th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #79251
I'm heading to Guatemala, Belize and the Yucatan during the holidays and was wondering if I'll need to book hostels and buses in advance. Normally I would just show up and let come what may, but did that in Uruguay last year and it was completely hectic around New Years. Any advice for Belize (or Guatemala and the Yucatan)? You will be needing to make hotel accommodations...Belize is pretty hectic around christmas and new years so my advice would be to book in advance. It is ok to just show up with buses but not with accommodations...

Where will you be visitng, the cayes, mainland san ignacio, down south placencia peninsula...i can help with some recommendations on places to stay. Reply to this

We are starting at Tikal and then planned on moving over to Placencia. From there we didn't really have set plans... We were hoping to just chill out most of the time but also kind of wanted to do a bit of partying with some other backpackers at some point. We thought of maybe heading to Tobacco Caye for some relaxation, maybe Caye Caulkner to see any backpacker scene there was. Does that make sense? Any recommendations on places to stay, or alternative places to head? Thanks! Reply to this

what's your budget per night? Will you be staying in San Ignacio? or heading down on the same day to Placencia? Placencia is for pure relaxation...although there is partying involve. San Pedro is where you go and get all the partying and drinking you can handle :-)...both tobacco Caye and Caye Caulker are good options...personally, if you are doing placencia, then it's best you do caye caulker. It would be nice if you can spend a night over at San Ignacio-try come into Belize early from tikal so you can do Xunantunich. Also, try doing Actun Tunichil Muknal Caves, they are awesome then head down to Placencia. In san Ignacio you can check, Venus Hotel, Midas Hotel right in the heart of town. In Placencia, check seaspray hotel, trade winds hotel, Laru Beya Resort & Villas.
