Of all the travel styles, I like yours the best...
if only I could take off for months at a time.

Styles....
We read often of the best eras for travel. Some think the great eras have passed. With easy access to money, communication, and information we think the current days are excellent for travelers. We have been able to stay on the road for nearly 7 years, which we would not have been able to do in the past. I don't know if ours is the best way, but it works well for us. Thanks, as always, for commenting and following along, Bob!

Much truth coupled with amazing photos, write me up!
Very good blog, it's true what you write about being judged on different travelling styles. I can confess to doing so myself before, but I try not to think like that any more even though biases die hard. Your photos are all in world class and I look forward to reading more blogs from you!

Truth...
Thank you for the nice words, Per-Olof. We've all ranked others travel style but it is worthwhile to try to appreciate what they are doing, even if they have chosen a road we might not have. At its best, that is what we should learn when we travel anyway. Not everyone does things like we do, but that doesn't make them wrong. Thanks for reading and the nice compliments.

Travelling in China
Who cares what anyone else thinks? Everyone has their journey and their footsteps are their own. Really enjoyed your perspective on travelling styles Nanci...so true...so annoying when someone makes a judgment usually so someone else can hear. Now to the task at hand...China...our most visited destination other than our island continent home. How do us dancers travel China? With David Hoo Tours (self guided and planned)..."Your travel experts with minimum experience but maximum optimism" was what we used to say...16 provinces so far but so many more to go. Your blog excites me...fabulous pics and writing style...I can taste and feel the breeze in which you ride...do it your way...even if it is against the tide.

Travel Agents...
Sounds like you have found the right travel agent, Dave. We visited Beijing and Lhasa years ago, but this is the first time "on our own". If we are successful perhaps we'll start a franchise of your travel agency. I think it's too bad people seem to find a need to rank themselves, not just in travel, but everything. I guess it's just part of the human condition. Thanks so much for reading and the nice comments. We appreciate it!

Wow-za!
This is everything! Great job capturing such a magical moment Nanci! Your travel photography is my favorite of all time.

Wow...
These guys are very photogenic and were probably the inspiration for this portion of our trip. We just had to see them and photograph this area. Thanks for the nice words and for reading, Jennifer!

Great post, fantastic photos
Congrats for having a successful trip around china without speaking Chinese. That must be very challenging. I met very few English speakers in China and none at all in the smaller places. You have visited a lot of places that I didn't visit in China. If I ever go back, I will use your post as a guide. Your choice of destinations is excellent.

Language...
I think China is a lot like the US in that not that many people know a second language. We have become very diligent about having someone write down words we need to use in Chinese so cab drivers, hotel people, etc. can help us find things. This is the hardest country we have travelled in but, surprisingly, we have done pretty well so far. We still have a few weeks to go though, so anything could still happen.Thank you for the nice compliments. We really appreciate it!

Another fantastic blog! So true about being judged about the style of travelling! It reminded me of my trek to Everest Base Camp when I joined an Intrepid tour. Apart from me there were only another two solo travellers in our group and I clearly remember my jaw dropping when one young girl from a group of 4 young Aussies asked a guy travelling solo why he was travelling solo and whether he had no friends to travel with? He only laughed it off, but it really hurt my feelings. Probably because I was only trying to figure out my style of travelling and in general my life at that point... And as much as I'd love to say that I don't judge other people's travelling styles, I'm afraid that's not entirely true... Still learning... Love your travelling style and your beautiful writing. Not to mention the incredible pictures! Yes, China sure can be challenging, I do remember trying to get some directions and being pointed the wrong way or being laughed at (or so I thought as it turns out it's simply their way of communicating). It looks like you have visited some beautiful sites already, enjoy the rest of your trip! Looking forward to reading more about your adventures! Safe travels!

Judge....
I think if you are going to Everest Base Camp, no matter how you are getting there, you shouldn't worry too much about what other people think. You are pretty high on the traveler's food chain. But it is interesting that people at that level still have to rank each other. Probably the secret to travel (and life) is to figure out what it is you want and pursue that and worry less about what others are doing. That's easier said than done though. Thank you for the nice compliments and for following along, Anna!

Not suitable for claustrophobics
Thank you for another blog packed with great writing and beautiful photos. That first video was indeed not suitable for claustrophobics! It's amazing to think that people live in apartments like that for their entire life... and I thought our house was small! :) I could also picture myself enjoying the views and laser display at night, probably worth the tiny flat!

Claustrophobic...
We often looked out the window to other houses and thought of how small of a space the people of Hong Kong get by in. We were only there for 1 month and only had 2 people. We saw families with children and pets in not much more space than we had. Yet they always looked happy and stylish when we saw them out. Amazing. We enjoyed Hong Kong and it was an interesting city to explore. Thanks so much for reading and commenting! Happy holidays!

Hong Kong Life
I had to look at this for a while Nanci. Then I realised you were looking up and I could hear you saying, "Wow, Wow, Wow."

Hong Kong Life

Wow...
This is a pretty popular place to take pictures for visitors. It is on H.K. island in an old tenement building. There were probably 10 other photographers here taking pictures. We talked to some of the residents and they said it was like that every night and they didn't understand why it was so popular. It may be the first tenement to ever go viral! It is on the flight path for the airport and some people have a plane in the center of the picture which adds a lot of interest. Thanks for commenting, Dave!

Hong Kong is moving up on our list
Once again well done and your blog leaves us wanting to book a trip. It sounds like Hong Kong has a bit of everything to offer. I always feel like I have a real feel for a city once you've written about it. The spirit of the city. Thanks again.

Lists....
I think it is a great place for a short or long visit. It is easy enough to figure out for short time visitors and has enough to keep you interested for a longer stay. It would be a nice addition to any Asia area trip. Thanks, as always, for your nice compliments and for commenting. It encourages us and helps motivate us to go further. Happy holidays!

Hongkers
Your beautiful word and gorgeous photos have made me very nostalgic for Hong Kong. I lived on the waterfront on Kowloon side for 12 months and loved watching the laser show on HK island at night too... such a treat. A gentrified version of the world of Susie Wong exists in fractions around town, I think there used to be a tour that took you to locations used in the 1960s film :)

12 months...
Jealous! We could easily spend 12 months in H.K. Even though Suzie doesn't live here anymore, we definitely found everything we were looking for and more. Especially egg tarts, which became part of our diet. We often find people say a place was best 20 years ago, but in twenty years people will be saying the same thing...so go now! Thanks for the nice compliment and for following along. We appreciate it.

Hi there!
What an interesting choice, I didn't even know Joshua Tree town was a residential place! Choosing a place that makes you happy from your head to your toes is difficult but once you find it and live there it will feel great. Love your photos of the Mojave Desert Joshua trees, I've always admired them and would love to see them in person some day.

Joshua Tree
We really do like the town. It's hard to say where we may settle eventually, but if it were Joshua Tree, I think we would be happy. Thanks for the nice compliment on the pictures and thanks for reading, Jennifer!
