Edinburgh Castle

My visit in Edinburgh
I was in Edinburgh for a day about 25 years ago. It was a crazy trip we did and I have a lot of memories. What I remember from Edinburgh was a really good guided tour with ghost theme. /Ake

Edinburgh Castle

Visit...
They had a few versions of ghost tours near the castle area. Maybe you went on the "Real Mary's Close" tour. It is a tour of an alley that was blocked off and covered (supposedly with plague victims inside) while the were constructing the city chambers building. We thought of ghosts many nights just walking around through the little alleys and cobbled side streets on dark nights. Thanks for reading!

Spring in Scotland
The damp air demands hot chocolate and a beef pie. The bagpipes are a joy. Scotland remains one of our favorite countries and even with your description of gloom and grey sky we'd be eager to return. Dave played golf on famous links and had the time of his life.

Spring
We asked a cab driver when we arrived "what time spring starts here". He kind of smiled and said it really doesn't, so I guess we shouldn't have been surprised. We learned to warm up during the afternoon with tea, scones, clotted cream and preserves. We want to return when we can get out and see more of the countryside. The Old Course was closed so people were using it to take a sunny day stroll. Very nice. It was fun practicing our accent, too. Thanks for reading!

Great blog entry and lovely photos
I really enjoyed this. Felt a bit envious too. I visited many years ago when I was just 17. Seems hard to believe now. I spent a month in Ceuta, Fez, Marrakech and Taghazout. I was so frightened in Ceuta that I didn't leave the hotel for two days and I wanted to go back to Spain. Looking back, it is one of the most exotic places I have ever visited. My memory of the trip is still very fresh after all these years. Hope I will return one day. In the meantime, it was very nice reliving my trip through your blog.

Exotic
We also found Morocco quite exotic. So many places that seem to have not changed much in centuries. Sounds like you saw a few places that we missed. Maybe we will both need to return some day! Thanks for reading and commenting.

I miss Amsterdam!
This is also one of my favorite cities, I can't find a single thing I dislike about it! Progressive and cultural and charming all at the same time. My wish is to return in the spring or summer to experience the tullips in bloom and ride bikes around. Winter is just way too chilly!!

Chilly
In the last couple of years we had good luck visiting European cities in the early part of the year. They were a little cold, but still lots of fun with less tourists. Not this time though. We really struggled with rain, snow and cold. Still it was very nice and I'm sure we will be back. Thanks for reading and commenting, Jennifer!

Reflections XXX
Stunning portrait of Amsterdam...these photos make me feel like we are right there with you strolling the city streets and canals. So many cheese shops, coffee shops and endless museums. One of the great world cities.

Reflections
We really had bad luck with weather and may need to come back. Still we had a good opportunity to see a very interesting city. Maybe we will return in summer! Thanks for reading.

Amsterdam
Thanks, Pat, for your comment! We were in Schiphol Airport once before, many years ago, for an eight hour layover to Egypt. We decided to take advantage of a bus/boat tour of downtown. It was quite cool and when we were back this time, we were reminiscing of that tour! Thanks for reading!

Seasons
What an interesting way to look at when you should visit a place. Picking your era would give a whole different perspective to your trip. Without consciously planning it, I guess I did that to an extent when I visited Saigon, where I was intent on following the trail of "The Quiet American" by Graham Greene

Seasons...
Thank you. It's probably a way most people become interested in a destination, even if they don't realize it. We were thinking of the "Quiet American" when we were sitting in the Hotel Continental in Saigon having breakfast. We even stayed in a room used by Michael Caine when he was in Hoi An filming the movie! Thanks for reading!

You can find this is the Jumbo Rocks camping area if you look. I don't remember the number of the campsite that it is near. You might be able to find it on the internet. It makes a good picture.

Curing dread
Really felt for you in the fishing boat experiencing apprehension resulting in a feeling of dread. Do you go with the flow and take what comes or seek to control your experience to minimise monetary risk? Sometimes the best adventures are letting the breeze take you where it will. Sometimes you win, I find you rarely lose. But when you lose...'tis said how you take it is the measure of the man or woman. I reckon you guys are so experienced you can handle anything that comes. If so, I reckon there is no place for dread...only excitement of where the breeze will next lead you or be led. May the swartz be with you!

Win Some, Lose Some....
I think the dread has gotten worse with age. No longer able to fight or flee. Our budget tends to be a little close to the bone which doesn't allow for as many errors as in travels past. We try not to let it get the best of us most days. Countries that are a little more aggressive (India, Morocco, Egypt etc.) tend to cause more problems. Thanks for the wise advice as always, Dave.
