Your talent for descriptions and making us want to be along with you are immeasurable ! I so enjoyed reading both recent transcripts from Japan. What a beautiful country, not only the ancient but the modern, too. Fascinating ! Obviously, the people are brilliant engineers judging by the tales of the buildings, highways, some elevated by- ways etc. The photographs you take are magnificent ! I seriously hope you are considering compiling this past seven years, plus what's to come, into a book. It would be a hit, for sure. I found your words about returning home for a visit, what you missed most, and what had changed most, quite interesting ! I look forward to more. What's next ?

I was in Tokyo in June, and you captured the wonder of the city very well. I particularly liked the plethora of food choices, from the beautifully displayed food in the food halls of grocery stores to Matsuya Curry, where you buy a ticket for a dish from a vending machine, then present it to the server. And while I wouldn't willingly eat dinner from a 7-11 here in the US, I was pleased to find that dinner choices from 7-11 in Tokyo are actually good.

Kyoto was very nice. Japan is an interesting place and definitely different than anywhere else we have travelled. Being home was nice. We had been away for too long. Lucky 7...
We are just starting our 7th so hopefully it will be lucky for us! This was the longest we have ever been away from home. It definitely gave us a different perspective. The U.S. will always be home, but we did see things that could use some outside input from places we have travelled. We are off to an even bigger city in just a couple of days (guess which one?). Wish us luck and thanks so much for commenting!

I love it.
I did the same itinerary last February including the Grand Canyon and the Sequoias National Park and the Zion Nationl Park. Amazing scenery.

An unexpected gem?
Did Croatia come as an unexpected gem for you? I have learned that many of the lesser travelled countries and places are at least as interesting as the ones everybody go to. We loved Romania when we were there a few years ago, we found Iowa very interesting when we were there last year and Poland is one of the best travel destinations in Europe if you ask me. I am happy that speak well of Croatia, because it is yet another not much travelled country. /Ake

Croatia did come as a surprise to us. I don't think we knew much about the country and didn't have much interest in it when we began this trip 6 years ago. Probably true for most Americans, I suppose. We find Croatia gorgeous. I think most people would. I also agree with you about Romania and Poland. I think many Europeans have visited these, but I would suppose not many Americans have these countries in their wish list. I am very thankful we had an opportunity to visit all three, and we hope to go back sometime soon. Thanks for reading and commenting, Ake!

In the Globe..
We enjoyed our stay in Tallinn. It is a cute town and even though it wasn't the perfect time of year, we still had a nice time. On to warmer climes this month. After a very long winter, it is nice to finally find some summer. Thanks for reading and commenting. We appreciate it!

In July of 2011, we made the decision to leave our comfortable jobs in Northern California to see the world. We weren’t sure where we were going to go or how long we would be gone, but we wanted an adventure and we knew we could find it if we looked carefully enough. We would travel slowly, staying in cities and towns for longer periods than most tourists have time for. Hopefully, it would give us an opportunity to observe local life in a unique way.
