Palm Springs

A time travel
Thanks for the time travel. I enjoyed the ride. /Ake

Welcome back to the U.S.A.
No one can dispute the curative powers of the desert whether you like them or not. Spas and thermal waters are good for the soul and psyche. We have good friends who made La Quinta their home for the past 7 years. They've just moved back to the Seattle area to be closer to their children but really miss their life in the desert. They will go back and rent annually and stay in touch with friends.

Deserts...
We enjoyed our stay here. We actually came back to California for a wedding and decided to stay for a couple of months to see a few areas of our own state we haven't spent long stays in. La Quinta and the other desert communities are nice but we're not the biggest fans of the gated community lifestyle. I think Palm Springs openness is more for us. Thanks for reading!

Aliens?

Very cool architecture
Love this one.

To plan or not to plan
Recently we've been planning less. It is a nice feeling to go with the flow. Changing hotels every day for 4 days does not sound like you. Not surprised Seoul is clean and organized.
14th May 2018

Planning...
Hardly anything we do now is really planned. I think we get tired when we try to do too many things too rapidly. That's why we really appreciate being able to go slowly. Seoul is noticeably clean. We just came back to the US for a little while and driving around the difference between Seoul and the U.S. is really apparent. Thanks for writing!

Now I know what gangnam means!
Hi Nanci! I learned so much from your blog. I confess I haven't done any research on Korea but now I'd love to! I do hear they are very much into skin beauty-secrets passed on through generations. Love your photos, they always blow me away. Glad you had a lovely visit :)

Gangnam...
I guess Gangnam Style sounds better than South of the River Style! I did notice lots of beauty stores everywhere. I didn't visit any because of the language barrier but they did seem popular. South Korea doesn't seem too popular with Westerners as we really didn't seem too many, but it should be because of they have so much to see. Worth putting on the list if you ever get nearby. Thanks for the nice compliment and for reading, Jennifer!

Bongeunsa Temple- Seoul

Looking up
The best thing for me is the blue sky, unlike China from our experience..

Bongeunsa Temple- Seoul

Up...
We had plenty of clear skies and comfortable temperatures. Springtime in Seoul was surely enjoyable!

Dongdaemun Design Plaza

Design Plaza
What a delight to see a plaza that catches the eye for its architectural vision. Shopping for the ages!

Design...
Whether a photographer or just a fan of architecture, the DDP was something to see for sure!

I would enjoy this place
South Korea would be interesting to visit. We don't have any current plans but when we eventually get there I will try to visit Dongdaemun Design Plaza because it looks like a kind of place I would enjoy visiting /Ake

Dongdaemun Design Plaza

DDP
The DDP was designed by architect Zaha Hadid and is one of the most unique building anywhere. Definitely worth a visit if you make it to Seoul. If you like architecture, Seoul has many interesting sights both ancient and modern. Thanks for reading, Ake!

Hot, hot, hot...
The temples are amazing the tourist selfies feigns are obnoxious. When on extended travel it is exhausting and sometimes you just have to rest, take a break, stop and do nothing except avoid the heat. part of the journey, part of the experience.

Exhausted...
Wise words all. At times during our travels, we have occasionally found our curiosity has wained. Heat, lack of transportation and tourist hoards sometimes get the best of us and we find ourselves needing a break. I think that's what happened and our experience in Cambodia suffered because of it. Angkor is still world class and we are glad we got to see the changes the country has made. It was a pretty dismal picture 14 years ago and we really did see impressive changes. Our travel life goes on and hopefully we get our mojo back soon. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Shockingly hot! Ha that's an understatement.
I'm sure it must be a whole new Cambodia compared to a measly 14 years ago. Got some terrific snaps of good 'ol Angkor though. What's next?
3rd April 2018

Hot...
We really struggled with the heat. Somewhere over the time we've travelled I guess we got old. Time has really changed Cambodia. I think for the better. I was surprised to read about their rise from one of the most impoverished nations to one of the most improved. It was obvious to us as we moved around. We have one more country in Asia (one we haven't been to before) and then we go home for a wedding. Then, as usual, we have no plans. Thanks for writing, Andrea. It means a lot!

Bit of shame
Sorry to hear you felt it was a bit of a wasted potential, it's never a nice feeling. However, there is always next time. Perhaps next time you'll travel in your more normal fashion and feel that you can learn about the country more properly.
3rd April 2018

Potential...
Because we had visited Cambodia before we just couldn't motivate past the heat. We did enjoy ourselves. The food was great and the everything was very affordable. I think we will regret that we didn't get out of the tourist areas enough to really get a good understanding of the countries obvious progress since our first visit. Thanks for reading and commenting. We really appreciate it, Per-Olof!

Sunsets
Such beautiful photos , I also loved wandering the streets of Hoi An , and there was something special about floating down the river at night in a little wooden boat and putting your candle into the water . We found that our cruise in Halong Bay was very peaceful so I am sorry you had to contend with rude and drunken tourists. Tran Nang sounds wonderful , maybe I will have to go back

Sunsets...
Thank you. Trang An was a new find for us and we really enjoyed it. Worth a visit. We didn't have the best weather for Halong and when mixed with the crowds it just wasn't what we were looking for. It is a beautiful and unique place that everyone should see.

Stone faces
I was there last October , loved Cambodia and those temples . To be up there with those massive stone faces was stunning. We were in a very small tour 10 of us with a local guide so we learned a lot about the history and the country try now. We were up at 4 am to see the sunset at Angkor and our guide knew just the place to go to avoid crowds. Love your photos.

Stone Faces...
The Angkor Temples are in our top 5 places to see anywhere on earth and should be on everyone's bucket list. Great that you got to see them! On our first visit, we had a guide and it was worth it to learn the history. We couldn't muster the energy to get up for sunrise at Angkor Wat and will probably regret it. Thanks for reading and the nice compliment!
