Tim Version: * Got on the boat early but not early enough! Nearly all spots were gone, found aircon is not a special area but rather where 80% of people are, and got me a spot next to the girls toilets and engine noise, doh! * Got to see incredible jungle, the river itself of which some portions are so wide that you feel more like you are at sea, to practise a lot of Portuguese, and finally to experience boredom and close quarters living previously unmatched in my life! The version thats chugging against the current down the Amazon river, [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Stayed with an incredibly good couchsurfing host and got to meet a few other CSers around. * Bought my first hammock (my future bed for the boat ride), checked out Belem and enjoyed some seriously good Amazonia brand on tap beer and food! The version that still hasn't learn that when you're at a buffet you don't have to try and eat the whole damn thing: ... however, remember I AM backpacking on a budget! If you can swipe sauce and sugar packets, you do, and that kinda stuff, so when you pay for a buffet you kinda [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Stayed at another kind couchsurfing host's house, and walked around Jeri and its beautiful sand dunes. * Didn't get to windsurf as just like Puerto Escondido when this place is off season it is REALLY off season and crappy for it. * Had a heavy night out ending up in me losing everyone in what is a very small town and waking up on a restaurant bench. All good fun =) The windswept but not enough to windsurf version: Well yes I could have windsurfed... but at a very very slow speed with no excitement and with me [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Went to a stunning beach village, Itacaré, and recovered from Carnaval. * Even got to get a bit of decent surfing in while I was there! The version that loves the cove style beaches of Itacaré, very tranquilo: Itacaré was a spot I had heard about from a Brazilian girl we surfed with in Pavones, Costa Rica, all those months ago. After Carnaval I certainly needed some down time at the beach and this was the place to have it. A lot of people from our Salvador hostel went down there, as well as to Morro, so it [View Full Entry]

Carnaval!!! South America » Brazil » Bahia » Salvador
Tim Version: * Carnaval - everything it is cranked up to be! Mad parties all the time, dancing everywhere, huge Blockos, music all the time, muggings and pickpocketing everywhere, and a beer vendor never more than 10 metres from you. * I think I killed my liver... * Ventured to the local Salvador beaches, including an island beach. The sleepless party like f´ing crazy version: Hard to know where to start for this entry.. OK, maybe the hostel, Nega Maluca, wicked hostel =) Very comfoortable, good owner, good workers, good crowd. I got a dorm bed in a dark quiet corner [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Traveled Saõ Paulo to Salvador by bus, heck of a bus ride! * Listened to a whole lot of Portuguese and learnt to live on a bus. The 32 hour bus ride version: Rocking up in Saõ Paulo the airport, at least where we arrived, was a little old and decaying. The immigration line was massive, as was the customs line, but it moved steadily enough and a good bit of time later I was outta there. I got myself some Reals (the currency here) and went to find a bus from here to Salvador. I was both [View Full Entry]

A not so good day in Lima, Peru South America » Peru » Lima » Lima » Lima
Tim Version: * Had a one day stopover in Lima, Peru. Overpriced and I found it kinda dinghy in the areas I saw. * Had my camera stolen, and copped a large exit tax that I was told wouldn't be charged.. The version that isn't all too happy with Lima: I was tired already when I arrived, not sleeping too great on the slightly too short for real sleep flight from Mexico. I wasn't sure whether I was going to leave the airport in Lima as I was only in transit and I knew I was coming back here, but upon [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Found Mexico City in the centre to be really beautiful and good fun. The outskirts, poor sad areas with little to no infrastructure. * Met up with Lyenet and had a wicked time at a local party of hers. * Saw amongst other things the temple of the Sun and the Moon! Huge place. The Mexico City isn't such a scary place version: * Im missing lots of photos due to my camera getting stolen in Lima, Peru, afterwards but its all good. Thanks Lyenet for the ruins photos! * Mexico City, before visiting it, conjured up to [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Back to tranquility and beauty in a big big way, so much happier! * Naked bodies everywhere! Only old ones though. But the vibe here, its so happy! The version that has seen far far too many naked wrinkled old bodies: I heard it was a nude beach but I just kind of ignored hearing that. We have them at home, but they're really not used as such much. Wow, people were really milking it here... heh and its never the young pretty ones! Both a nudist haven, and a haven for gay people, it made for a [View Full Entry]

A quick look right...
.. and stright down the centre

Tim Version: * Searched longer than ever before for a good hostel and still didn't find one! * Checked out the wave and while it was just OK it really needs the right season to work. * Bit disappointed by the place really.... The version that entered with a jittery excitement, and left with a bad taste in its mouth: Puerto Escondido! While this isn't a surfing trip, and every time I surf I find I suck more and more as what little skill I had drains away, I still get little-kid-at-disney-land excited by a chance to surf, or really just [View Full Entry]
