Tim Version: * Experienced Monte Alban and Mitla ruins, and the beautiful city of Oaxaca. * Taste tested every type of Mezcal I could find, all the local beers, and copped a few heavy hangovers because of it! The version with tired blurry eyes from all that Mezcal: The bus to Oaxaca City, awesome! Cold but not deadly air conditioning, I got my windoow seat beside somenoe who yet again tried to convince me that I don't know which number is the window. I slept awesomely and awoke to beautiful, dry desert, hilly Agave cacti fields, and other taller Cacti all [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Stayed in a hostel and with an awesome couchsurfing house, fully enjoying their company and San Cristobal's friendly atmosphere. * Hiked the local mountain, saw a Chiapas region orientated Tuxtla Zoo, and took a tour through the incredible Cañon del Sumidero at Chiapa do Corso. * Oh yeh, I also saw a Play about Palenque, seriously good! "Palenque Rojo" The version still thinking about the incredible cañon boat trip, with crocodile sunbathing views included: San Cristobal. Kinda like Antigua really! To me it is more Guatemala than Mexico. Arriving, it was freeezi [View Full Entry]

Plastesine Church
San Cristobal street view

Tim Version: * Saw the waterfalls of Misol-Ha, and swam and lay around beautiful Agua Azul. * Visited the incredible ruins of Palenque, loving the jungle setting and angry sounding howler monkeys. The ancient temple filled version: The night bus to Palenque didn't play any movies and didn't let me get any sleep due to a driver with an itchy trigger finger for the bus lights (he would turn on all the lights in the bus so he could read his watch kinda stuff), constant stops, and some like the guy next to me snoring chronically! Palenque is the name of [View Full Entry]

Tim Version: * Saw and swam inside the Cenotes using some seriously different transport to get there * Witness huge flocks of Flamingos and other birds at Celestun The pink, long legged, goofy looking when it flies version: From Chichen Itza to Merida, a very cruisy ride! These first class buses I admit I will miss. I don't like them more than the chicken buses... the organisation of having to first buy a ticket, then wait for a specific time for it to leave, and having to cue up and having a seat number I now find kinda stifling (hmm, I [View Full Entry]

Single horse power train
Our mutlicultural train, friends from the hostel
A slow fun awesometype of transport, a new one for me!

Tim Version: * Visited the Chichen Itza ruins and found them well worth a visit and really different! The version thats really thinking about those cheese and ham pastries... mmm: After a good breakfast courtesy of a girl who left very early and left me some food (coconut yoghurt, its the best!) I headed off to Chichen Itza on my way to Merida, as it sits between Tulum and Merida. *sigh* 1st class buses again as it is all that is available! I met a couple of Aussie blokes on the bus from Victoria and had a good chat to them, [View Full Entry]

Awww it just wants some food!
Likean evil, dead historic version of Pacman heads
Catching some sun

Tim Version: * Whiled away about 5 days in Tulum, beautiful perfect uncrowded golden sand beaches, tourquise warm caribbean water, and happy people. * Checked out the chilled beachside Tulum ruins, tiny but pretty, and the Coba ruins too with another good tall temple to climb. The chilled out beachside carribean version: When even the ruins you visit have private beach access to pristine clear beautiful carribean waters with views of the coast worth millions, you know you're in a good place! Tulum, not too crowded and not yet big enough to be spoilt. Its a gem. Staying here about [View Full Entry]

Wish the waves were bigger!
Room to yourself, so good...
Awesome colour contrast

Tim Version: * Crossed into Mexico, wow, the culture difference. Still highly organised though. * Bussed it on some crazy long straight roads in serious comfort, discovering that a pastry with cheese, ham, glazed and sugar coverd is one of the best snacks ever! Looks like a slice of pizza... The version that lost track of distance and time cruising the straight perfect highways of Quintana Roo: The border crossing from Belize to mexico, seriously cruisy! Its a beautiful border on the north end. My bus out of Belize City was the normal basic type, but took me all the way [View Full Entry]

Tim version: * Headed to Caye Caulker via Belize City, a hole of a place, and loved both the journey out to and Caye Caulker Itself. * Got to "swim with the sharks" and the Rays, enojoyed waaay too much local rum, made some good friends, got sunburnt, got covered in sandfly bites, and thoroughly enjoyed it all! The version thats sitting in a canoe, drifting in peace in warm carribean waters, just taking in the tropical island views: Caye Caulker. The usual destination in Belize along with Ambergris, and for good reason! I bussed from San Ignacio after a morning [View Full Entry]

The incredible golf course island!
Speedboat for midgets, I want one!
Coral with veins

Tim version: * Headed out of Flores, out of Guatemala, and into Belize - Guatemalan border officials tried to rip me off some money, didn't work, and walking into Belize I felt so happy to be out of Guatemala! * Stayed with a couchsurfer in San Ignacio and had an incredible couple of days chilling with them and a few other couchsurfers from Germany, tubing and enjoying the local town and market. The version that loves this Belizean music: Heading out of Flores still feeling sick I didn't rush it. Instead I splashed out on a good breakfast and didn't leave [View Full Entry]

Gotta watch for the Chinchi Changas disease!
Simple, straight forward, love it
San Ignacio

Tim Version: * Went to Flores, not such a fan... the whole island is void of anything natural now. * Saw Tikal, freakin incredible! Worth the travel for sure, its granduer is just amazing! The version that ran from the fireworks covered bull-man-thing!: Arriving in Flores from Coban I was a little disheartened! Hoping that the isand would have some natural areas left I was mistaken, it is 100% concrete and made up. It may as well not be an island at all. The bridge over to it is a bit laughable too, with Gallo beer owning the whole place with [View Full Entry]
