linzcrowe - Linz Crowe

Linz Crowe 24, Male, West Aussie going backpacking in Central America and South America.

Countries I hit include England, Northern Ireland, Portugal and Spain for relatives and relaxation, then for the backpacking its Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru and maaybe Chile if time and cash allows.

Backpacking, I want to experience it all from the ground to get a better look and feel for the places. Walking and public buses instead of taxis, that kind of deal, to get more amongst it.

Hopefully by the end I will be able to speak Spanish too, and thats a bit aim of the trip. Portguese would be good to have too.

Beautiful rocky coastline
Beautiful rocky coastline
Just outside Sydney CBD in the rich eastern suburbs
*** Apologies for the smudges on the photos! My camera has got a whole lot of gunk now inside the lens that I need a repairer to remove so it made a bit of a mess of a lot of my photos *** Tim Version: * Cruised the N.S.W. and a small part of the Queensland coast in a chubby van just checkin it all out. * Surfed a little, chilled a lot, and scoped out where I wanna live next and thoroughly enjoyed the solitude while doing it. The version riding shotgun in a decked out surf van cruising part [View Full Entry]

Memorial to Captain Cook
The bay opposite the memorial
Sydney panorama by sunset

Tim Version: * Got stuck in Mendoza trying to cross by bus to Santiago for 3 days and ended up flying. * Witnessed fresh falling beautiful snow blanket the town in white. The yeh I got stuck in Mendoza but at least I got to see the snow version: Leaving Buenos Aires I was pretty confident over getting over the pass between Mendoza and Santiago as the pass seemed clear from all the website I could think to check before I left. This was however why I was leaving early. This being my last bus ride, I decided to take it [View Full Entry]

Snow still fallings
Snow covered cars
Snow falling pre-dawn

Tim Version: * Lounged, dined and drunk a little too much in the massive city of Buenos Aires. * Saw the rich side in Puerto Madero, the poor side in La Boca, the famous side in Recoletta, and a protest/rally with guys masked and armed with sticks/poles looking like they meant business. *** A quick apology with the photos. The first 86 are out of order due to apparent "database errors" when I uploaded them, and then many more photos never showed, which I have now put up, hence the re-release of the blog entry *** The true variety version: Its [View Full Entry]

Cordoba South America » Argentina » Córdoba » Córdoba
Tim Version: * Checked out Cordoba over a couple of days on foot and its a real mixture of a place, both good and bad! The slightly mystified version... the town, its quite a mixture and not as I thought it would be: I'd been told it was a University town which generally appeals to me. Unfortunately I was arriving at a very quiet time of year so I knew it wouldn't be as lively and have that real University town feeling to it. Arriving, the bus terminal is pretty large so gave me good hope of the town being lively. [View Full Entry]

Giant sundial

Old church

Tim Version: * Loved the bus journey over the Andes. * Had an awesome and unique wine and spirits tour on quad bikes. The slightly inebriated version: Mendoza, my entry to Argentina, famous for it's food and wine. Not something at the start of my trip that I would have been excited about but by now when I'm up for a bit of the easy life it sounded perfect! The bus ride from Santiago to Mendoza, crossing the Andes, was rumoured to pass through some amazing areas up over the top of the Andes with incredible snow capped mountain scenery. I [View Full Entry]

Clouds taking a rest on the mountains
Snow getting thicker...
Serious snow buildup

Tim Version: * San Pedro is a nice little place with a good dose of sunlight during the day, a warm change! * Santiago is amazing!! The layout of the city, the public spaces, its so clean and safe, its incredible! Not so lively in winter but Id love to check it out in summer... The version loving being in a clean, safe country where everything works: Arriving in San Pedro was brilliant. The sun was shining, there was no cold wind, and while it was still cold in the shade it was an easy town to find a sunny spot [View Full Entry]

San Pedro sunser
Snow meets desert
Top Gun territory

Tim Version: * Saw the endless white salt plains, odd little rock rabbits, islands that aren't surrounded by water and all sorts of wonders. * Froze so f'ing badly that it made me feel sick! The I'm a pussy when it comes to the cold version: The bus from La Paz to Uyuni - god damn its cold! Below 0 cold. Ice on the windows cold. There were some tiny little heating pipes in the bus but they did nothing once the cold kicked in. I think I started shivering about half an hour into the bus ride and besides a [View Full Entry]

If the car broke down this would really suck
A bay at other times of the year
Me. Cold. Actually, I wasn't too bad at this point...

So peaceful
So peaceful
Lake Titikaka
Tim Version: * Made it to La Paz, met an ex (well kinda ex) con American in jail in Bolivia briefly. * Rode the death road (The world's most dangerous road), survived and freakin loved it! The version running with dual suspension, disc brakes, and enough safety gear to survive anything: The bus from Puno was pretty good, although funny that it was 100% tourists. The lake was much more beautiful outside of Puno as we skimmed its edges in the bus, a little annoying to see after having been stuck in Puno for the previous few days but I was [View Full Entry]

Swirly wind patterns

A car with all the extras
A car with all the extras
Heh this was awesome, someone had taken the sticker from a bus in Nazca with the signs for air conditioning, DVD player etc. from a bus and stuck it on thei car
Tim Version: * Made the now very long ridiculus trek to Puno. * Saw the Floating Islands and other sights of Puno, but unfortunately got stuck 3 more days by more blockades... The "Why are these protests and blockades following me!!" version: Puno, it's taken a bit of a mission to get here but I finally arrived. Instead of the direct 6 hour bus ride from Cusco, due to the strikes I had to go from Cusco to Nazca overnight then the next night on to Arequipa and then from there finally to Puno. The bus ride to Nazca, urgh, not [View Full Entry]

Looks almost glacial
Looks almost glacial
High in the hills before Santa Maria
Tim Version: * Found my way to Aguas Calientes through Santa Maria, Santa Teresa and some railway tracks walking. * Saw Machu Picchu and Wayna Picchu and wow! Location, location, location... The version with sore legs but one the best views you could have from the top of Wayna Picchu: Getting to Machu Picchu. It can be done a multitude of ways from hikes that range from usually 2 to 7 days, by train, by car, bus and train, or by bus and walking. I originally planned on doing the Inca Trail or one of the many substitute trails but in [View Full Entry]
