Europe » United Kingdom » England » Wiltshire » Stonehenge July 11th 2014

I woke up around 8 this morning to catch my 8:30 tour with Madmax. Once I saw the bus and met our tour guide Tim, I got on. We drove for about an hour until we reached Stonehenge. It ended up costing me 12.50 pounds to get in as a student. They have a visitors center which is included in the ticket. They have a little safari looking trolley that takes you out to the henge, about a mile away. Once I got there, I got to roam around, but wasn’t able to touch the stones. Pictures make Stonehenge look a lot bigger than it actually is. When you look out at the scenery around Stonehenge, you see a lot of mounds in the distance. They are all burial mounds. In them remains of a human ... read more

Today was my last day with the Kents so we got to relax and spend the day together. We played my new favorite game, Settlers of Catan, so many times that I was actually able to win once. I had a great last day spending time with them. The next morning I woke up with enough time to play one last round of our favorite game before I had to catch a train. We drove to the train station in Reigate and waited about twenty minutes until the train to Reading came. I said my goodbyes and tried not to cry. Once I got on the train, I put my luggage up and sat down. Once I got to Reading, I had to get off the train, validate my rail pass, and then get on the ... read more

One Sunday a year a couple of churches in Reigate and Redhill get together and have church in the park. I ended up being here for that one Sunday, so I went with my friend and her family. The weather was cloudy, but it didn’t rain. It was pretty cool and there were a lot of people. Afterwards, we had a picnic at the park. We played a couple of games and chilled until it was time to go to a night service. We got to go to a church in a coffee shop and everybody gets a free drink for going. It was really cool and I loved getting a free drink that was normally 4 pounds. The next morning we had a relaxed day where we hung out and played games until a bible ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London July 6th 2014

My friend Meagan planned the day out in London which meant waking up at 7 A.M. to catch the 8 A.M. train. We ended up getting a ticket that included a round fare and an all day tube pass for about 13 pounds. It took about 40 minutes to an hour to get into London. Once we got into the London Victoria station we walked towards the London Bridge. The real London Bridge is just a regular bridge next to the Tower Bridge. The Tower Bridge is what people think of when they think of the London Bridge. On our walk to the Tower Bridge we passed by the London Fire Monument and saw the Tower of London. It was pretty interesting especially since many people were beheaded there by the Queen. After passing across the ... read more

My flight to London Gatwick left at 7:40 this morning, so I had to wake up around 4:40. I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss my flight. After checking out of my hostel, I took the 5:15 Airlink bus to the airport. Luckily, I had already printed my boarding pass for Ryanair. My luggage ending up being a kilo overweight so I had to pay 10 euros, but that was the cheapest option and I had already packed everything I could fit into my carry-ons. After I checked in, I had to make it through security. It was a really long line and I was very glad to have come early. I ended up setting off the metal detector and was one of the many lucky people to get patted down. Once I found my ... read more

Today was absolutely amazing. I started the morning off waking up early again so I could get to my tour to the Giant’s Causeway with Paddy Wagon. The tour guide today was named John and he was extremely funny. The Giants Causeway is in Northern Ireland which is a completely different country than the Republic of Ireland. So when we were crossing the border, John told us we would need our passports, a customs form, and five euros to enter. Of course he was just kidding but many people took it seriously and came to ask him about a form. He told them to see his secretary and then announced that we had all just crossed the border. Got to love Irishmen. Our first stop to the Causeway was at the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge. It cost ... read more

I ended up not getting much sleep last night because girls kept coming in the room all through out the night. Idon’t have a plug by my bunk bed so my phone ended up dying. I woke up at 5 in the morning freaking out thinking that I missed my alarm and would miss my tour. Thankfully, I grabbed my ipad and set the alarm on it for 6:15. Of course I really got up at 6:30 and left to find my tour. I ended up booking the Paddy Wagon tour to the Cliffs of Moher and the office was literally around the block from my hostel. The bus was pretty grand and had wifi. Today was another beautiful, sunny day. I guess I get to be in Ireland two out of the four days a ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Dublin June 30th 2014

In March I decided to go on a journey to England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland for a month. Sunday morning I arrived at the airport around 7:30 for my 9:30 flight to Charlotte. We landed around 12:00 Eastern and my connecting flight from Charlotte to Dublin took off at 6:40. So I spent six hours in the airport waiting and absolutely bored. Finally when it was time to board, I got on the flight and waited for another hour before we could take off. Most of the way, the weather was really bad and the plane shook around. Although it was a bad flight, me and the girl sitting next to me, Michelle, talked for most of the 8 hour flight. We hit it off really well and exchanged emails. When we arrived in Dublin, it ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Seville July 11th 2013

We followed our daily morning routine with a devotion led by Jackie and Sheryl and hopped on the bus to go to a retirement home. We ended up giving out postcards from Florida with little verses in Spanish on them, to the people. After finally believing that it was free, they took the postcards and used them as fans. We had a band come and sing typical flamenco Spanish songs, which some of the people got up and danced to. We also had three of our members share their testimonies, but the people didn't really listen. After the band was done, we helped put everything away and headed out to eat lunch. We stopped at a different mall so we could all choose our own places to eat. I ended up eating at T.G.I. Fridays ( ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Dos Hermanas July 10th 2013

After breakfast and a devotion lead by Jeff and Fatma, we headed on the bus to Dos Hermanas for another early morning. When we got there, we met the pastor of the church, divided into groups, and headed out. I was put in a group with a guy from Russia and a girl whose mother is from Spain and father from the United States. We were supposed to find a street that had houses on it and go down that road. We ended up turning too early and walking up and down stairs in apartment buildings. Most of the people didn't answer even though they were home. It ended up being hotter inside the buildings, so I was glad when we finally had to return. Since we were staying there in Dos Hermanas for the rest ... read more
