Again, the morning came too early leaving me with little sleep. Today we hurried and ate breakfast because it was our turn for the devotion. We had struggled with getting devotion together, so we decided to do separate things. We ended up coming across the same verse and wanting to use it. So for our devotion we read out loud the chapter of Hebrews 11, which all about by faith you can accomplish anything. After we shared our thoughts and prayed, we got on the bus (the big bus we were supposed to have), picked up our fellow Spaniards, and headed out to another day in Tomares. This time we switched up our groups, and I was hoping to end up with my new friend Meagan, but instead I was in a group with a guy ... read more

The morning came to early today. After breakfast and our devotion lead by Sheryl and Becky, we got on the bus to head to the city of Tomares. Major Attack number 2 came, when the wrong bus ended up coming. We ordered a huge bus for the week so our group and the youth from the church could all go together; however, the company claimed that for today we ordered the smaller bus. Luckily, we were able to borrow a local bus from the church and everybody was able to go to Tomares. I was pumped, because we were about to accomplish something amazing in Tomares. It is a small town outside of Sevilla that has no churches besides Catholic churches, and the people have not been reached there yet. We met up with an American ... read more

I slept through the night, enjoying the freezing air conditioning when I was interrupted by the arrival of morning. After we got ready, we went down to eat breakfast with everyone at 8 o'clock. After breakfast, we had our group devotion. Today our devotion was to put on the armor of God. After having a group praying, we got on our bus and headed to the local church that we would be helping. Since today is Sunday, we helped with their usual Sunday activities. Two of our members were chosen to lead the bible study and preach, so the rest of us split up to do different things. A couple were our musicians, and went to sing in service, while some attended the service. Others went to an English bible study with Africans who are learning ... read more

I woke up this morning ready to head to Sevilla and see my mom again. Since there are fewer buses on Saturdays and Sundays, I had to get up early and take the 8 o'clock bus to Sevilla. I ate a quick breakfast and my aunt drove me to the bus station. I only brought a backpack and a purse, leaving my suitcase behind. It was refreshing to travel without lugging around my heavy suitcase around. The bus ride went by fast, lasting a little over an hour. When I got to the bus station in Sevilla, I walked up and down the street looking at each bus stop schedule until I came to the one that would take me to the airport. I waited there for a good 20 minutes until the next bus came ... read more

My next two weeks alone in Chipiona have gone by very fast. I have spent most of my days enjoying the relaxing waves and soaking in the sun on the beach. Sunday the 23rd of June was the Day of San Juan. We spent the day in the town called Las Cabezas with my aunt's family. I had previously met her family but I have never gone to their home or the town before. Its located a little ways from Sevilla, and was very small. I found it interesting and enjoyed my time there. That night, back in Chipiona, we went out to the beach to celebrate. On one piece of paper, you are supposed to write down things that are bad about yourself that you want to get rid of. On another piece of paper, ... read more

Today we woke up early, ready to go visit my cousin, Manuel. He is currently studying to become an engineer at the University of Cadiz. After eating a quick breakfast, we got in the car. I thought we would drive the whole way, but my aunt ended up driving to Porto San Maria where we hopped on a train the took us to Cadiz. Once we arrived, we walked over to my cousin's apartment. As soon as I walked in, I could tell that three single men in college lived there. Thankfully, we didn't spend too much time in the flat, quickly leaving to go tour the city. The night before, my aunt called her friend from Cadiz and asked the top things to see there, so we started with her list. First, let me start ... read more

Instead of writing a day to day account of my first week in Chipiona, I decided to put it all in one entry. Since Spaniards don't eat dinner until 9-10 o'clock and I don't go to sleep until midnight or so, I have been waking up daily in between the hours of 10 and 11:30 every day. It is quite nice to be able to sleep in. In the mornings for breakfast, I eat toast and drink pineapple juice. My uncle makes bread at his work (Panaderia), so he brings us fresh bread in the morning. It isn't sliced bread, it is the delicious bread that you would get from a bakery. In between breakfast and lunch, the things we do change. Normally my aunt will always clean the house; they mop the floors every day. ... read more

A long night of sleep is definitely not what I got. Around 1 in the morning, two older woman who were sleeping in my room came in. Of course like any respectable person, they should have come in and quietly went to sleep. In reality, they came in, turned on all the lights, and made as much noise as possible. So I was woken up and quite frankly, not in a good mood. Finally after a decade, they decided to turn off all the lights and go to sleep. I was excited for when I got up at 8, how they would react to me making a bunch of noise while they were sleeping. As it turns out, they got up at 7. So I was the one reacting to them making a bunch of noise ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Granada June 13th 2013

I took my time this morning eating my breakfast and getting ready. I was planning on visiting the Alhambra today, but my time allowed wasn't until 2. So I decided to explore some other parts of Granada that I haven't seen yet. I decided to walk through all of the souvenir shops close to my hostal. Guess who I see sitting outside one of the stores. The phone number guy from yesterday. A plethora of things crossed my mind. I didn’t want it to be awkward since I didn't call, so I thought about escaping. Of course he saw me and started to talk to me. We talked for a couple of minutes and I looked in his shop. I told him I had to leave because I had to go see the Alhambra. We said ... read more

In the middle of the night, two new roommates came. They happen to be brothers from Chicago and snore a lot. When breakfast came around, I was really hungry and looking forward to the free food. It was cereal and toast, but it was still good. After eating I decided to walk around and explore the neighborhood of Albaicin. It is known for being the part mostly influenced by the Arabs. So i headed that way walking a long the road to the main plaza when I was stopped by a police barrier. I was a little curious about why they wouldn’t let anyone pass through when I saw people there. So I looked around them and saw people dressed in long medieval looking robes and movie cameras. I was pretty sure they were filming something, ... read more
