08-12 to 09-12: Kratie Best place to spot the Irrawaddy river Dolphins. We rented bicycle and rode for a good 1h30 and spend an hour on a river boat to watch these river dolphins. We weren't near enough to take close pictures but near enough to see them jumping. Although it was extremely excited to be close to these lovely creatures. 10-12 to 11-12: Phnom Penh Just enough time to visit the town and the National Museum. The Royal Palace was closed during our stay due to the anniversary date of the death of the King. Only locals and monks were able to enter. We had the best massage by far - by blind people (A company/collective/charity called Seeing Hands). They have a good training and better skills, using only their sense of touch it ... read more

18-11 to 21-11 -12: Luang Prabang Proper french town ! with croissant, pain au chocolat, good coffee and nice food. Laap, Khao Soy, Tom Yum are some of the country delicacies... One of the Highlight of the region is the waterfall. Literally something we had never seen before (or since): Magnificent turquoise water with swimming area. Calcified trees, Rope swings, great fun and possible one of THE most beautiful pieces of nature we have set our eyes upon... Fantastic ! The caves are worshipped by locals to be protected from bad spirits. nothing spectacular apart the fact that it's constructed on the rock and you have to take a boat and cross the river to access them. Overall the atmosphere of the town is very chill-out and one can easily spend a week wondering around ... read more

Chiang Mai: 08/11 to 11/11 We spend again few days at Baan Guesthouse in Bangkok where we meet again with our friend Leon. After a good 12h train journey to Chiang Mai, we settled down in the old down and spend a couple of days. We went to a Muai Thai boxing show... you have 7 fights starting with young fighters, women and then more substancial fighters. The last fight was between a French man and a Thai. Of course the French won !! There is also a surprise fight: 6 fat guys are blinded and have a fight against each other (as entertainment during the interval!) soo funny !! Pai: 12/11 to 17/11 Little town in the middle of the valley surrounded by the river, it is very pleasant place but everything is tailored around ... read more

WEST BENGAL 29/10 to 04/11/12: Kolkatta - Calcutta We shared a Jeep at the Nepalese - Indian border with some Belgium guys which was a fun journey as we experience several breakdown of the jeep on the way making the 2 hour journey into 4 hours! After a 24 hour journey train from Gorahkpur to Kolkatta, we settle down in an old colonial style guest-house. We enjoyed Kolkatta as the hassle, the dust, the dirt and the noise is much prominent here and it seems to be more 'civilised' and bearable city than any other big city we have been to in India. Kolkatta is the 2nd largest Indian city and was the Capital of India during the British reign. Perhaps this explains the reason it seems more gentile and civilised...? The museum of India is ... read more

Asia » Nepal » Kathmandu Valley October 22nd 2012

22/10 to 29/10: Kathmandu and around Dhulikhel We arrived in Katmandu during the Dasain Festival - one of the biggest festival in Nepal. Celebrating the victory of the goddess Durga over the devil forces, they sacrifice a goat or a buffalo in her honour. They install swings at the entrance of villages and people will have a Tika on their forhead. Nepalese people were travelling back to their family home therefore shops were closed and not so many people in the streets. Streets have no tarmac and are very dusty but it was still nice to wander around. A good place for shopping if one need any trekking gear from The North Face, etc - fake of course ! but still ok quality. The architecture of the buildings is interesting and typical Newari Style: carved wood ... read more

18/10 to 21/10: Chitwan National Park Home to Rhinoceros, Crocodiles, Tigers and other wild animals like wild Pigs and chicken! We did a 2 hours canoeing journey before starting a full day walk into the forest with 2 guides. One has been working in the Park for more than 20 years and had such amazing hearing and sight for animals. He was training his colleague. We didn't meet any Rhino during our walk but did climb on a tree and waited for 30 min hoping to see the one nearby by but hidden by the elephant grass (2meters high even more). Once zig-zagging in the wood we did see/feel/sense one Rhino . A moment of fear and distress was present as we were in no position to hide or climb on a solid tree in case ... read more

Asia » Nepal » Pokhara October 3rd 2012

03/10 to 17/10: Pokhara and Poon Hill Trek Pokhara is built around the Fewa Lake and the Annapurna range. The atmosphere is very relaxed and it is a beautiful place to relax and start a Trek. We found Pokhara very relaxing, beautiful and rather difficult to leave...! We arrange the Poon hill Trek (5 days). It is a constant up-hill with 370 0 steps between two villages. On the way, we cross mules and donkeys laden with food, bottles of gas, wood, water, rocks along the way. Some villagers also have the task to bring necessary purchase from the valley as not available at 3200 meter above the sea level. We woke up at 4am for a good 1h30 climb to the Poon Hill top to watch the sunrise above the Annapurna Range. A wonderful moment ... read more

Uttar Pradesh 25/09 to 26/09: Agra: The Taj Mahal Beautiful monument and great at sunset, it has been build by Shah Jahan as a memorial for his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal who died giving birth to their 14th child in 1631! A World Heritage Site since 1983, it looks immaculate as when it was first constructed. Non-polluting vehicles have been introduced around the site to avoid pollution and preserved the Taj. To be truthful visiting the Taj Mahal felt more like a chore than a real desire - until we encountered the beauty of this wonderous complex. It was simply stunning... 27/09 to 30/09: Varanasi : Regarded as the holiest indian city, you will love it or hate it. Asia » India » Uttarakhand » Rishikesh September 18th 2012

Uttarakhand The region is believed to be the Land of Gods and is place of lots of Ashrams, Yoga Gurus, meditation centres and so on. One will find a lot of Sadhus in the area. We recommend a book by Patrick Levy (French writer): Sadhus - going beyond the dreadlocks for more understanding about their life, their purpose and their philosophy. 18/09 to 24/09 : Rishikesh: The Beatles spent time in an ashram but this one is abandoned since then and nothing much is left apart seeing nature taking over. Rishikesh is the Capital of the World for Yoga, Meditation and Ashrams. The town is separated by 2 suspension bridges (jhula) -which could do with some refurbishment. There is enough space for a man and a cow, a man and a scooter, but not more. (It ... read more
