We fly from Bangkok to Chennai and moved quickly to smaller town as the big cities are confusing,polluting and noisy!

It has been difficult at the beginning to adjust our self to the Indian's attitude and annoyances. They will try to scam, and get what they want in a way or another if you don't keep strong position.
Always negotiate price for hotels, clothes, taxi... at least start negotiating at 75% less. Most of the time this is the right price.

some rickshaw will give good advice but in general, be careful. They will bring you to an hotel or guesthouse they know to get a backshish from the owner and then the owner will charge the room more to cover the charge!
