London

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London
After Copenhangen, we came back to start classes off again. Our modern German history teacher thought it would be a great idea to have presentations and final papers due the day we got back from our excursion, so I was busy in my cafe working on those. Over the next couple days I was forced by my German teacher to go to the doctors and I ended up missing a couple classes as I needed meds. The doc was very nice and she was really interested in that I came here to Berlin to study and that I knew some German [View Full Entry]

My trip to Copenhagen was alot more successful than my Hamburg trip, mostly by this time my sorethroat was over and now all I had was sa bad cough. We took a boat tour around the city which was very interesting, unlike the Hamburg trip. We saw the owner of Chelsea's football club (London's soccer team) yaht that was anchored there. After the boat tour we went to where they had the changing of the gaurd which was longer than most but still exciting. Some of us went down to the Carlsburg brewery for a tour. Guide books had said the [View Full Entry]

A top ride at the carnival
My trip to Hamburg was a dangerous one... Before I was finally able to obtain the necessary fingerprints for the DHS. However, during this time I was sick... struck down by an illness that left me exhausted. I felt fine during the train ride to hamburg, but once arriving to the youth hostel on the mounth with only stairs I was hit with a sore thorat. During the next couple days, I was unable to speak and thus resorted to writing down everything I needed with a pen and notepad. Despite this, I still went on the walking tour. We saw [View Full Entry]

More Friends arrived the past week and a half. Rich and Brian came in last last friday. I had an excursion with the program to Sachsenhausen, one of the first concentration camps! It housed mostly political prisoners and Nazis when the Soviets took control. However, ruins of the ovens were still there. It was pretty intense. Rich was suppose to call once he had landed and we would discuss where we should meet... However... he never called. Luckily for us, I had set up a meeting spot in case Rich and his friend (Brian) were unable to call me. After the [View Full Entry]

Us at the Charlottenberg Schloss!
Ever since I got back from S. Germany and began going back to classes, I have been swamped with visiting friends and this next coming week is no exception! A couple weeks ago, my German teacher, Dr. Gaddy, and her son came to visit. I was coming down the stairs after class and all of a sudden she was right in front of me! What a shock! I was so surprised and later some of us went down to the Mensa (cafeteria) and had lunch with my teacher. We made plans to meet later at an interesting tea place that Dirk [View Full Entry]

Herbie and I arrived in Munich and quickly found out hostel, being that is was near the train station. We checked in and found out the hostel's policy was there was only one key and if you were in the room you had to open the door for others, but if you were the last one out, you had the leave the key downstairs... weird and slightly inconvienent for everyone. We learned that there was a beer like tour starting soon and it included a dinner so we hustled over there and made it on time. We went to a museum [View Full Entry]

The land of Greatness

 Europe » Slovakia » Bratislava
Bratislava... It was here that I decided I needed to find a Slovakian wife. Why? Well let me tell you. We got into Bratislava and walked down the historical district towards our hostel. It was quite nice and we took out some Slovakian krowns which ended up being $45 and that lasted us the entire trip! We got to the hostel and messed around a bit on the computer and played some foosball. We went out that night for dinner. Here is where the major reason I NEED a Slovak wife. We got some tradition Slovakian food consisting of Pierogies and [View Full Entry]

Vienna!

Europe » Austria » Vienna State » Vienna
We got into Vienna by the Czech bus, which is amazing because it was cheap, comfortable, and we got free magazines and coffee!!! We got in and was welcomed by riot police outside the U-bahn (there was a demostration about Kosovo and there are alot of Serbs there). We walked to the hostel and ran into Dave from UF! Randomly walking down the same street... small world. Got to the hostel and decided to be lazy and laid around a bit and then later met up with Dave and went to a bar. The next day we went to the zoo [View Full Entry]

The Sound of Music

Europe » Austria » Salzburg State » Salzburg
After Herbie and I dropped Joelle off, we got tickets to Salzburg and got on a train. We got there and needed to find a hostel so we found an internet cafe and booked the only one that was listed on hostelworld.com which was a little strange. We walked about 2 miles with our stuff and saw some of the city at night. We got to the hostel and put our stuff away and found that some asian guys did laundry and strewn all their stuff across the room. We then went to an irish bar and got pizza, it was [View Full Entry]

Went to Praha for a couple days. The night before we went to Stammtisch and went back to the apartments kinda late. We took a cab but the driver was really cool and liked how we knew German and was living there so he didnt charge us the full price and refused to take tip. He was awesome. I did a quick pack and went to bed. Woke up 3 1/2hrs later to make it to the train station. We got on the train and made our way to Prague. We had our own compartment for most of the ride, except [View Full Entry]
