I am a third year at Georgia Tech studying Chemical Engineering who loves his music, good food, bboyin', meeting random people, exercising, and chillin' with family and friends. The GT Study Abroad Program in Shanghai is the trip that actually got me to start this blog. Right now, I'm back at Tech for summer semester but I just finished visiting my brother in Boston and will be posting my updates from that soon! Peace.

Energized from our delectable dairy desserts, we made our way to my brother's trusty blue chrome steed and headed for Lexington. We only walked along Lexington Battle Road a little past the spot where Paul Revere was captured before heading back due to the fading daylight. It was fun trying to imagine the revolutionary history emboldened in Lexington and were intrigued by number of rock fences we saw. Walden Pond was a good experience as well despite the fact that we could only reach half of it due to the flooding. It is basically just a large pond with nice paths in between moderately to densely wooded areas. Many mosquitoes though. It is one of my brother's favorite running/biking paths. We even saw one swimmer braving the cold waters for some fun. With our socks wet ... read more

So this morning I learned that my brother makes AMAZING omelets! It was the first morning he's had enough time for anything except work. We decided to finish the Freedom Trail together and then try to fit in Lexington and Walden Pond also. Across from the bus stop, was a park marked off as a historical landmark. You can find pockets of history anywhere in Boston! Before we reached the trail he showed me the Holocaust Monuments noting the names, inscriptions, quotes, and reflective architecture. And right in the middle of the monument, to my amazement, stood one of my friends, Parker, from the Shangai Study Abroad trip I took last summer. He couldn't believe it either - what were the odds! He was in Boston for a day waiting on his flight to Europe for ... read more

The traffic on Boylston (on my way to Fenway Park) was insane - see the vid! I took a shortcut to Fenway through some gardens. I think they were a set of War Memorial gardens. It was a dynamic and beautiful display since each different lot was tended to by an individual gardener trying to share their art style. Although some of those styles were just two pots of flowers, but hey they're trying at least, ha. Upon reaching Fenway Park, I learned (half-expected) that tourists cannot enter the park except for very specific days - however you can catch a glimpse of the park through the windows at the the Bleacher's Bar along Fenway's alley. I stopped in for the most expensive french fries and tomato soup ever (tiny cup too), staving off hunger while ... read more

Finding Arnold Arboretum proved a bit more difficult than I foresaw. Supposedly, all you have to do is get off the subway at the Forest Hills station and follow the signs. I saw NO signs! However, there was construction inside the station and directly across the street which may have been blocking the signs. The crowd at the station appeared a bit more shady, resembling the typical Atlanta Marta station, but I never felt unsafe, just uneasy and cautious mainly cause I was a tourist. Basically, just leave the station on the NE? side and walk across the street along a fence heading left until you find an opening. Now do not be confused, although this entrance is filled with gravel and not much flora, it is an actual path; just follow it awhile and you'll ... read more

Sam Adam's Brewery at 11am - a bit early for a drink, but who's complaining when it's free?! It's only a 10 minute walk away from the T-station so need to drive to enjoy this site. I enjoyed learning about beer brewing (I mean I am a chemical engineer) and getting to feel and smell their specific hops and barley. Our tour guide was fantastic, but it was three older men and some rambunctious children that really made me smile. I got two free tiny memorabilia glasses at the end of the tour along with 3-4 rounds of free tastings. One of my glasses has already broke, but that's why I grabbed two! After filling myself and wishing I had eaten a bigger breakfast, I made my way to the Orange Line to visit the Arnold ... read more

It was a little too breezy for a run, but walking up the esplanade proved most pleasant. However, the river is FRIGID! I did not jump in like the two girls on John Weeks bridge finishing their run, but I could still tell, ha. It does have a bit of trash but majority of the river's body appears clean. In general, Boston appears to be a great city for running, biking, and kayaking or rowing, at least in the summer. Not too many people that I've interacted with have had thick Boston accents, just with very specific words. Though along the river, we ran into a true Irish man who assumed by our freckled appearance (quite incorrectly) that we were current on UK and Ireland politics and expressed his elation of how Gordon Brown was evicted ... read more

At this point in my trip (and writing this blog), I have been thoroughly "historied" out and am basically just taking pictures of interesting things and perhaps grabbing a small guide or two, folding it up, and tucking it away for another day. Right outside the T-station, I found something interesting (at least for me). It was a typical newstand, like the ones you'd see in a movie or in New York with all different manner of magazines and newspapers. Guess I've just never ran into one in Atlanta, so I snapped a picture of course. The brick roads and old light posts, street clocks, and signs mixed in with trendy shops and zig-zag intersections gave a unique historic feel to this section of Boston. Highlighted as a good shop for chocolate from Yelp! or something, ... read more

Upon straying from the Freedom Trail, I was surprised to stumble upon a college seemingly hidden amongst Boston's several alleyways. I cannot recall the name (something like Staniford), but I wondered what it'd be like to live in dormitories only an alley away from your classes - might be a little safer I guess. I took Causeway Street headed to Boston Commons and observed pedestrians following signals just a smidge better than in Atlanta, but a few bolder ones were worse and risked theirs and others lives just strolling across busy streets. The city appears to have only a minimal amount of smog - hazy every now and then - still allowing the beautiful blue skies to provide a fantastic contrast to all the red brick building and architectured skylines. I would recommend, if you have ... read more

My Granary Cemetery visit actually took place the second time I visited the park, however I clumped in the ealier entry for convenience. At the close of my first visit of Boston Commons, I took the western exit toward Newbury Street looking for the Newbury Comic Store (never found), art galleries (only one interested me enough to go in), the public library, and a wine store called Best Cellars (supposed to have free tasting!). The walk was leisurely enough until I started trying to find specific shops and began to notice how cold it actually was with little sun and going back and forth a few times to get my orientation right. It was unimaginably windy; luckily I had my kick-ass lined jacket to fight it off. The streets and sidewalk were in great condition, one ... read more

At first view of Boston Commons Park, it appeared average in size but I was glad to find out later that I had been deceived. The park has two sections, one has a large pond and the Boston Monument...while the other is slightly smaller and has a puddle and a "Tadpole Playground" with Kermit the Frog sitting atop its sign. You can guess which was the first one I saw, ha. I trekked over to the larger section after finding the Granary Graveyard on my second visit and discovered one of the best views of Boston facing the Western skyline of the city from atop the hill with the Boston Memorial. There were several locals walking dogs, suntanning, and few frisbee enthusiasts. The flaura, while artistically trimmed and aesthetically arranged, was not overly colorful; however the ... read more
