Taman Negara National Park is spread over 4343 sq km of dense lowland forest. We arrived here by boat, and the water was SO clear, we had never seen anything like it, and we thought Thailand Islands were stunning, this was paradise, we went for the smaller beach, with less bungalows and shops/restuarants. We hired snorkels for the day and it was great fun, we saw lots of fish, I got very excited when i saw Nemos (Clown Fish), shouting through my snorkel, yes like a child! the water was cool and really calm. We arrived here by boat, we hit the top deck and did some sunbathing and people watching, some of the girls were in full bikinis, the boys loved it, now i know why Stu's sunnies are so dark! ha ha We didnt know what to expect as Phi Phi was hit by the Boxing Day Tsunami back in 2004, but we saw a before picture and its pretty much the same, the beaches and surrounding jungle is stunning but the town in the centre isnt very impressive, its quite enclosed and on top of each other. We arrived here by mini bus, which took around 5hrs, but the views on the way were amazing, bus driver was a little nutty but we got there safely! We got picked up by the owner of the Green Mountain View Bungalows, he was a mad local man but really helpful and friendly called Mr Kawi, his family were lovely too, his wife did the cooking and he did the talking. BANGKOK: We left Bangkok the day after we said our goodbyes to Sue and Dave. We bought our sarongs as beach towels and was ready to leave the City for some relaxation onthe beach. We arrived here by mini bus, the road wasnt too bad, it had been closed for 2 days with the amount of rain we had, there had been several land slides, but no one was hurt. Vang Vieng had great scenery of green mountains and the Nam Song River where you can go tubing! but for the town its very backpacker heaven and not very nice to look at and stay for long. We made our way to Chang Khong, which is the town across from Laos(border town), we just had to make our way across the Mighty Mekong. We arrived in Chiang Mai,by an over night train, took around 13hrs, an hour late. The hotel was really nice, we could get used to staying in places like that! , had a walk around for some breakfast, we went the wrong way as we couldn't find anything, but later that day we turned the other way and all the restaurants and bars were down there. Kanchanaburi - Pop: 64.300 We arrived at Kanchanaburi by local train from Bangkok, which only took around 2hrs. Our guesthouse was on the River Kwai in a really quiet location, the place was like a house boat, really nice and clean. The night we arrived back to Bangkok from Pattaya, Stu and I got a tattoo done (sorry Mum and Dad!), Sue didnt seem too impressed with Stu's ankle! tee hee, i am such a bad influence!
