Kanchanaburi - Pop: 64.300
We arrived at Kanchanaburi by local train from Bangkok, which only took around 2hrs.
Our guesthouse was on the River Kwai in a really quiet location, the place was like a house boat, really nice and clean.
We booked a day trip to several places which included Sai Yok Noi waterfall, which wasnt very impressive quite man made but quite nice, some hot springs, which were really hot, Stu couldnt go in with his new tattoo, i could but had to have my arm out of the water, Hell fire Pass and memorial museum, the railway was built by the POW and goes through seven mountains, but we only had time to do a short part of this old track. The workers had 12-16 hour days and shifts of 12 weeks. At night they worked with the candle light from a bamboo torch only. The POW were Aussies and Brit prisoners, by the time the cuttings of the track was finished 70% had died.
Death railway was made from materials from Java by the Imperial Japanese Army during its 1942-43 occupation of Thailand, the 1st version of the bridge was completed in Feb
1943 and was all wood, in April the same year a second bridge was made of steel. In 1945 the bridge was bombed several times by Allied planes and was rebuilt after the war. We caught a train along the track and the scenery was really nice then we walked across the River Kwai Bridge. All in all it was a really nice day out and we saw everything we wanted too in this town.
We stayed here for 2 days then left for Ayuthaya by mini bus.
Ayuthaya - pop:90.500
We arrived here and had a lazy day, checking out the area. We found a nice bar near the river, ex pat owned and he was telling us about the area.
We took a long boat trip out onthe river for about 2hrs and saw Monitor Lizards and they were huge,we stopped at Wat Chaiwatanaram, this was an old ruin, very well kept gardens.
That night we found a good street where all the backpacker bars and resturants were, we descided to head to one called the moon bar, which in our books had a good write up, so we ordered our food and
drink and started to relax for the evening. The bar owner from earlier came in as Dave left his sun hat there and he thought we might be around here or in our hotel, he started to talk to a bloke up at the bar (this bloke was in the pub earlier and was the owner of this Moon bar) all we heard was the Moon bar owner start swearing and shouting so the bloke left without saying a word, our food arrived, we all had finished apart from poor Stu and the bar owner, lent over the bar and started throwing things off the side, smashing glasses, money tin fell to the floor, paper etc etc and swearing his head off, looked over at us and said "HAVE YOU GOT A PROBLEM, HAVE YOU GOT A F@@KING PROBLEM" Dave stands up, there's Sue and Lisa telling or shall we say shouting at Dave to sit back down and ignore him, before he goes for Dave or the other way around, We wanted to leave but poor Stu is just tucking into his yummy fish and chips, we felt so sorry for the bar staff more than anything, becauce they
didnt say a word to him, but clear up and gave him more beer and alight for his fag, so we got up and took our drinks outside.
The next day we wanted to know what was going on, so we went back to that bar near the river to find out...... he said earlier that week he had mentioned to the moon bar owner he would look into sorting a live band to play at his bar to get the punters in, but with the increase of tourists he hasnt had time, plus having his own bar to run etc etc which is fair enough, but this bloke wasnt happy and went for him, thats why he left, so we filled him in on what happened after he left, but he thinks its either Wife/baby problems or money....
Sue can laugh about it now!!
We left here by over night train to Chiang Mai, this train was good fun, we had seats to start with then around 9.30pm they come around and changed them all in to beds, The boys went to the buffet car and they said it was like a rave, but were told
leave as they were closing, downed 5bottles of beer they had just ordered, oh well boys! Dan descided it would be good fun to try Lisa's bikini top on, suited him actually(yes there is evidence of this to follow)

Hello
Hello to the famous five! Looks like you're all having a good time. Dan looks worryingly good in a bikini - his boobs are nearly as big as his mothers!! When I called Lou to look at his big brother, all he said was 'oh dear' Lis - How come you were allowed to go in the water when you've got tattos elsewhere? Suz xx
