Michal is now in a plane to here to germany. By some miracle and some roughing up from the german office they let him on the flight, or actually, apparently the Venezuelan office were not able to kick him out with a ticket the German office issued to him. Apparently the Air France computer system showed that Michal had already flown to germany, so it looks like they kicked him out to give their friend or relative the seat or some drug dealer who was able to pay a lot of money for it, or something like that, larry tells that [View Full Entry]

so close...

South America » Venezuela » Capital » Caracas
so I am already in Germany, finally came this afternoon after missing my transit flight and spending a day in Madrid. Michal is not so lucky, he is still in Caracas, and really not happy about it. Its a horrible city with horrible people and dangerous as hell. There are military and police walking around with machine guns, and you cannot trust them one bit. Air France Venezuela suddenly decided to not let him take his flight, because the flight was changed, and apparentely it was not allowed to be changed, they refuse to give him a new ticket or let [View Full Entry]

Amazon

South America » Brazil » Amazonas » Manaus
boa boa boa. We just arrived to Manaus after a 3 day trip on a cargo boat across the amazonian rainforest. It was a really nice trip, we had already gone to the boat to sleep the night before and already a day before that we had set up our hammocks to get the best places. Just before the boat was leaving though, there seemed to be the whole Brazil wanting to get in, there were hammocks absolutely everywhere. At least 3 people wanted to sleep on top of michal, but we managed to get rid of them, until one finally [View Full Entry]

La Paz
La Paz
La Paz, the capital of Bolivia is built in a crater where it is protected from chilly mountain winds. The bottom of the city is 3600m above sea level and the top 4000m. One of the nicest cities in t... [more]
Seems already very long time ago since last time we wrote here. We are now in Brazil already. Since last time we spend first couple of days in La Paz organising things. Its a really nice city, built in a crater high up on the mountains. it is the highest capital city in the world. When you walk on these small streets in the city, you never know what to expect from around the next corner, could be going up or down, or show an amazing view of the snowcapped mountains, or anything else. Really exciting place. We had tasty steak [View Full Entry]

Worlds most dangerous road
worlds most dangerous cyclers
First stop for pictures and catch the slower ones

We are now in La Paz, came this morning on a overnight bus, on most horrible road, it was a gravel road, full of these tiny holes, bus was shaking like ratatatata and it felt like any minute all the screws will be loose and the bus will lie on the road in million pieces. Good thing was, we were exhausted and slept like babies in the end. Since we left Chile, we took a very comfortable night bus to San Pedro de Atacama. It is a tiny oasis village in the middle of desert, built only for the comfort of [View Full Entry]

We had really nice last couple of days here in Arica, sun has been shining, schedules been fully booked. Yesterday Michal went to town to organise bus tickets, some padlocks to secure our stuff and shopping, while I finally finished my thesis. In the evening we went to have a BBQ on beach with some friends. The food was delicious, lot of meat mixed together with peppers and onions and fried on some pan that was taken from tractor :) Franz and Maggie were showing us some traditional Chilean dance, I think its called Quenca. We drank some beer and Chilean [View Full Entry]

Las Machas

South America » Chile » Arica & Parinacota » Arica
Today was a nice day in the sun and cooking for hours. Michal was hunting for mussels (machas) from the sea. They are buried under sand in the sea, and to find them, have to dig into the sand with a heal of a foot and when you feel then, pick them up. I was lieing in the sun and checking out huge medusas that were washed on the shore. After few hours michal came home with a huge bag of mussels, it took us probably couple of hours to open and clean them all. Then just some garlic, oregano and [View Full Entry]

Count down to bueno viaje es cuatro dias. We are trying to put down a plan of places to visit on our trip, so many places so little time... We still didn't sell the surfboard here, which means that we either have to donate it to the poor kids and accept $100+ losses or take it with us. Maybe we can attach a sail on it, and use it in Greece. Today we bumped into a guy who is planning to start sand surfing business here in Arica, so we signed up straight away as his first customers for Sunday. It [View Full Entry]
