I'm reading the Alchemist from Paulo Coelho for about three months now. You can imagine that I'm a slow reader. Yes that in part is true, but I can guarantee you that I am a faster traveler than the guy in the book. He left Spain and is still trying to get to the Egyptian Pyramids I left France and I'm already there. No cheat, both of us are traveling by land... hehehe. Our stay in Jordan would be short. To make possible the visit to Israel, we had to go and come back during the 30 days our Jordanian visa was valid. Two weeks for each country was all we had. We don't know if it’s good or bad to have been there just two weeks before everything started again. From one side we could visit the country, but by the other side we know that what we have seen doesn't exist anymore. Beirut really impressed us, a modern city with modern buildings just beside old bombed ones (scars of the war). The city is really western looking with a touch of Arabic culture. Syria was a big change of the scenario. It was the first very cheap country we have been. It was also the first we felt the corruption besides Brazil of course. At the border as we presented our passports with the visas to the immigration officer but he kept looking to the horizon pretending we weren't there. Finally we had better deal at the border than the world-master-super-duper-travelers Australians. We didn't need visas and they did!!!! With the taste of victory in the mouth we arrived in Istanbul.Was going to be our first Muslim country. But instead of seeing muslin womens covered we met only Aussies and Kiwis everywhere. Although the sightseeing from Sofia you can visit in just one day (it resume in one yellow-brick street with all the remaining buildings of the communist time), we spent five days there, just hanging out in the hostel drinking beer in 2 liters bottles and in many different pubs during the night. Well, in our trip we have the plans of going in many places that have death risks of epidemic diseases and wars. So, to be safe of all that we decided to take professional advise.
