Compliments for your reports. Your pictures have improved a lot during your 3andahalfyear photo shooting session. Good on you for trying out some selling skills - From: Piramids
I had to laugh out loud when I read about trying to sell postcards back to the Egyptians...why didn't I think of that!!! I too ended up somehow with a pack of postcards I didnt really want (but felt lucky i didn't find myself unwittingly on the back of a camel paying 100pound to get off! ) I just got back from a 2 week trip to Egypt and just loved it. A short trip to keep the travel bug at bay but has only worstened the bite. Until I am on the road properly in December I will enjoy living vicariously through you. I actually got online to do my blog on Egypt but have instead spent 2hrs reading your blogs...remembering places I've been, reading about places I want to go - which is pretty much all of them! thank you for the wonderful blogs and photo's. Happy travels! PS: if Australia isn't too normal for you and you make it over here then i hope you come to perth in Western Oz, The Most Isolated Capital City In the World and some of the most wonderful unspoilt and unihabited coastline you can find.

Middle East Mess - From: The new Berlin wall
At first I didn't understand the aggression of the Palestinians towards the Israelis until I heard a segment on the radio. During this interview, it was brought to my attention that the Israelis not only took the land of these people, but moved into their homes! Many Palestinians fled their homes with their house keys in hand planning to return. It is hard to respect the Israelis in this case. At the very least Israel can help support the Palestinians to rebuild their communities.

Those two walls cant be compared with each other. the berlin wall was erected by a socialist regime to hinder its people from escaping their system to the more prosperous west german system. the wall separating the west jordan land from mainland israel was build to protect israel from islamic suicide bombers.

re: Need To Dig (Read?) Further - From: Most bombed country on earth
Hi, great blog on Laos along with some superb pictures. Definitely one of my favourite places to visit and one that I'll hopefully re-visit one day. In response to sapere18's comments, the USA's involvement in a secret war in Laos is well documented and accepted - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laotian_Civil_War for a selection of independent references. Laos was considered a potential aid to North Viet Nam (as described by Eisenhower's Domino Theory). Laos' official status of neutrality (declared by both NVN and the USA) meant any involvement in Laos (by either country) had to be kept secret. The amounts of ordnance produced in the USA still found today is evidence enough. A trip to this beautiful country and reading around the subject will provide more information. Thanks again for the blog - and happy travels, guys.

Need To Dig Further - From: Most bombed country on earth
Hey! Thanks for the comment. We love when people question our writings. Means that they read and put attention to it. I didn't understand properly your comment! Do you mean that USA hasn't admitted involvement in the secret war in Laos? USA says that all that USA made bombs dropped by USA military airplanes never existed? Sorry pal, we don't want to offend you or anyone, that's why we didn't discuss in our text if USA did had a reason or not, if there were other countries involved or not, or if the bombing was indiscriminate or not. The fact is: Laos is the most bombed country on earth and the vast majority of the bombs came from the USA. Your country has never suffered carpet bombing, Land Mines, etc. Think about the inocent people that had to endure all the bombing and now listen to USA deny involvement or resposability for the death of their children, partners, parents and friends. Come to Laos, see the fileds, the bombs, talk to the elderly locals and you will understand what we are talking about. Safe trips, Claudio and Fernando

hi,guys I think about it , There are at least 200 different types that include 500-3,000-lb bombs, anti-personnel and phosphorous devices, shells, exploding bullets, and mines. Most is of US origin and over thirty years old. It was not until mid-1997 that a proper audit of the problem was concluded by Handicap International.I was very surprised." Need To Dig Further - From: Most bombed country on earth
Hello. I am pleased that you are having a good time in SE Asia. Insofar as your comments about the U.S. involvement in the Secret War, you need to do some reasearch before you make glib, off-the-cuff comments about my country. Our "kindness" as you put it....came with a lot of help. Study a bit. Learn what the KGB did in Loas. Learn how the U.S. go tits information and did not bom indiscriminately. Learn, also, that no government, not even mine, has admitted involvement. That includes all the players. The reality is a lot deeper than your version of American kindness.

Seguro Saude - From: F.A.Q.
Ola Bob! Restricao total voce so sobrevive e nao aproveita.

Costs - From: Lost Kingdom of Shangri la
How much does a car cost? In Brazil a new golf 1.6 flex, you can find for about R$ 52.500,00, that means, US$ 28,821. You can travel for three year with this money. How many people you know in Brazil have golfs? All of than could travel for three years! But they say they don't have money to do it. Why is that? Is just choice. The choice between having a new golf 1.6 (the cheapest model because the 2.0 golf I could travel for 5 years) and traveling for three years. We choose travel. But just last year in Brazil 8.294 (Golf sells in 2006) people choose to have a golf and not travel. Safe trips to all ;-)

How can you two travel for so long without working? You said you spend 25 dollars a day. So, travelling since August/2005, you're now on your 27th month of travel. Times 30 days for each month = 810days, times 25 dollars a day = ~ US$20.000 for each one of you till now. (and you're planning to continue for another year...) Again I ask, how is it possible?

It wasn't all that bad though was it? - From: Hotel California
I don't think I'll ever love or hate the two of you more than I did for that month... Screaming matches with CB, Junior attempting to read Ivanhoe and falling asleep on the couch, chocolate treats, all the trivial pursuit questions being about Australia or Brasil, too many nights of too many beers, Luc's love of dancing at seedy bars, Rickard going missing after a night out, Kris teaching me how to eat Nshima, you forgetting my birthday... all the laughs and the tears. Despite everything that went wrong for all 3 of us during those 5 months in Africa (especially the last month in Lusaka), I wouldn't change a minute of it boys (well maybe I'd fight with Junior less, admit I was wrong a little more often and have been kinder to you both at times - but apart from that, I'll never regret a second...) and I will always be honoured that you let me be part of your mammoth odyssey for the third time. You two mean the world to me and you'll never know how much I learned from you (and still do). I'm just happy to know that one day you'll be waiting for me in BraSil!!!!!! hehehehe In the meantime though, day/night/any hour/whenever you need me you know how to find me. Eritrea - From: The desert and the port
You should have gone to Eritrea, it is a wonderful country. I can understand you didn't want to go because of the bureacracy and the strict rules about traveling (not much stricter than Sudan and much faster to get your papers, much less corruption- no bribes). But you still missed out on a great country and there were many people (on travelblog) who went to Eritrea before you and said many nice things. May 24 was Eritrea's independence day (from Ethiopia), in the capital Asmara it is a very colourful and happy celebration. Anyways, enough about what you missed and hope you enjoy Yemen...

Eritrea - From: Turquoise Waters
I saw your last blog from Ethiopia on your way to Djibouti. I am just wondering if you going/went to Eritrea from Djibouti? It's my country and I wish I was there to welcome you:((( Unfortunately travelling in Eritrea can be discouraging. Despite the governments desire to develope tourism, they have put so many regulations (visa, travel permit etc...) for "security reasons" (conflict with Ethiopia) that it is hard for independent tourists like you. I hope you go there anyways...it is a beautiful country with nice people:) If you are continuing to Asia from there, you can fly to Yemen and/or Dubai from Eritrea. Make sure you get a travel permit to cross Eritrea from Embassy in Djibouti.

Mambo vipi guys! Back in Belgium since one week, we finally have enough internet to get on your blog. We're very sorry to read about the unlucky event... too bad that you didn't get the chance to see Tanzania like we experienced it. We had a really great time in our little 'town' where you get to know the people much better than in the city. While we did our research we made friends and got to know the way of life there. We didn't want to go home at the end.. Once in a while we wondered about u guys, how u were doing, what u experienced, where u were, ... . Are u back in Brasil or still travelling to finish the two years? Hopefully u have some great times on the different places, We had a really good time with u two, the life band was much better sitting next to you. If u ever are in Belgium... :). I read your blog in a little bit of a rush but got the same feeling you do. I feel your frustration too. I will conclude that what you experienced was not just bad luck but nothing different from what you'd expect anywhere in the world. I am African and have been conned money there in Tanzania by a Taxi driver. He left me bitter as hell, but I tried to get around things. The problem is that when a mzungu gets to a third world country you expect to walk on red carpets everywhere. When we travel to overseas we are not treated with any respect and have to learn to be tough and survivors. So in essence as you continue travelling, remember money can't buy you respect, love or happiness. Deal with it and hopefully when you get back home you'll have understood what it means to be a foreigner and treat those aliens with alot more respect and love. Africa is not just the people, focus on the scenery and you'll enjoy yourself so much. With all due respect!

Sorry Guys - From: Black Phase
Hey Fernando and Claudio! I am am honestly sorry and seriously shocked about what I was just reading about your Tanzanian experiences. You must really have had a bad time there. Off course, buying a car in a country like this you must be very lucky to get a real good deal. But all the other things that happend to you are really annoying. You seemed to be pissed and you are trying to keep people away from Tanzania now. But I believe, once you start making bad experiences in a particular country, your perception gets worse and things that happen get worse and so on. On all my African travels (should be 18 countries by now) Tanzania is definitely among the top five. And this is for exactly the opposite things that you wrote: nice, friendly and helpful people (except for very touristy areas), rough countrysides, few (harmless) begging, relatively safe in terms of minor crimes and most of all welcoming and affordable. I know that these arguments are my personal opinion (after all together 8 weeks of traviling Tanzania) and can not be taken as objective but the picture you are drawing sounds like a rough generalization written out of frustration (which I have totally empathy with). But this image you give to people who have never been to Tanzania or who are maybe planning to go there is a distorted one which is not fair towards all the tanzanians who try to make foreigners feel at home in their country even without making personal profit out of it (by the way Tanzania is among the six poorest countries in Africa). The only thing I do agree with you is the fact that by now they rip you of for going to the National Parks (which had been half price last year) and climbing Kilimandjaro. But the reason for these price explosions are once again we who have the desire and opportunity to visit these places. I hope you are fine by now and are still open hearted and looking positively forward to the other countries to come. Stay safe and have a good time with the people! Fabian (who is sometimes thinking of where the hell thiese guys might be right now!)

Remember the guy from Hezbollah asking if we were scared of being kidnapped? Ice-cream on the Beirut Corniche that wasn't my idea for once? My dragging CB shopping for hours?!?! The temple of Bek being bigger than the God of Wisdom's?
