20/20 Vision
Stories of Cambodia
20/20 Vision is a Documentary series created by filmmaker Charles Duncombe.
"Stories of Cambodia"
Stories of Cambodia is a documentary series showcasing human interest stories from the diverse and culturally rich country of Cambodia.
Bio.
My name is Charles (Charlie) Duncombe, I am a 21 year old filmmaker from Sydney, Australia. In January 2007, after finishing my studies at University, I ventured overseas (as many other young Australians do) to South East Asia and for a little over 3 months, travelled through the 4 predominant countries, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. When traveling, I developed a strong connection to the country of Cambodia and its people.
My new found love for this country can not be credited to one thing, I believe it is a culmination of many different aspects, the absolutely genuine love and generosity the Cambodian people show total strangers, the Khmer's (people of Cambodia) ability to smile when coming from a history laced with so much adversity and struggle, or the fact that any one of the many people I met had the most amazing stories to share, many opening and baring themselves so honestly I couldn't help but be taken back by it.
Upon returning home to Australia, I was determined to share my experiences with my friends and family, but found that my second hand storytelling of these peoples lives didn't do them justice. No matter how enthusiasticly and well I told of my tales in Cambodia I couldn't seem to do them justice.
I figured if i couldn't bring my friends and loved ones to cambodia, I'd have to find a way of bringing a little bit of Cambodia to them.
It was also around this time that I had decided that I wanted to apply my knowledge learnt from 3 years of study on a film project, and more importantly one of merit, one that would hopefully have a positive influence for both the subject matter and the viewer.
It was with this thought that I realised I could join the two, this is when "20/20 vision" came about.
I decided that I would return to Cambodia, this time armed with a camera and a vision, and hopefully gain a genuine insight into the lives of some of the wonderful and endearing people of Cambodia.
I hope to film and produce a documentary series, and have it distributed in Australia, and in doing so, raise money and awareness of Cambodia's plight to move away from the horrible truths of their past and into a prosperous and bright future.
Much love,
Charlie D
