koh kradan, thailand - the remaining days of this one are going quick now; the last BEST beach spot
Published: February 19th 2012Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » TrangThere is nothing special about Trang - but this makes it special!
Published: February 1st 2012Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » TrangHaving been warned by a lot of travellers about recent delays of Air Asia and an overcrowded, chaotic LCCT in Kuala Lumpur we arrived quite early for the check in of our flight to Hat Yai in Thailand. And, what a surprise: empty departure halls at the LCCT, a quick check in and a flight that was even 5 minutes earlier! Not bad, not bad. The flight itself was nice and an hour later we arrived in Hat Yai. Being the cheapies we are, we did not want to take a cab to town. So we were looking for some public buses which should take us to the bus terminal in town. And we were lucky. As the buses are some small, blue songthaews, we had to wait for some more passengers which is quite hopeless ... read more
After spending a great final week in Malaysia we headed for Thailand on 5th February. We decided to stay overnight for 2 days in a small town called Trang which we thought would make a change as it isn't particularly a tourist destination and we knew we'd be heading to many beaches in the coming weeks. The journey involved a ferry and mini van which was relatively painless. As this is not a tourist destination we managed to stay in a really nice hotel for really cheap called My Friend Hotel, it had a hot shower (rarity in South East Asia for cheap), a fridge, fresh bed lining everyday and best of all Satellite TV so I could watch Liverpool beat Chelsea (gettin!!) We were lucky in that on the weekend they have night markets in ... read more
Trang English Occupation Promotion Club
Published: September 7th 2010Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » TrangOn my way through Thailand I came across a delightful non-touristy town called Trang where I spent several enjoyable days. The feature of my time in Trang was regular visits to the Trang English Occupation Promotion Club, where I helped Mr Theerayuth (Mr T to his friends) to educate the students about English. Everybody was very kind to me and I was sad to leave. ... read more
On Ko Lipe we ended up staying at a place called Pooh's ( with a little winnie the poo on the card) but turns out the owners name was Pooh they were really friendly and made amazing Barbecue chicken and fresh fish ( yum!) They had a Golden retriver called Sam ( haha) who was five months old and was super friendly and playful and also very naughty everytime they would clean the place up sam would come in proudly carrying a massive bug or a piece of wood that he had found and would dirty the place up again and then run away and the guys who had just cleaned would come back in see the mess and go SAAAAM but with big smiles on their faces which was great to see=) So yesterday ... read more
Our final beer on Thai new year
Published: April 21st 2009Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » TrangWe arrived in Ko hi by ferry from Ko Lanta under a dark stormy cloud and we knew the inevitable was going to happen. Ko Hi is a very small island lined by one long thin stretch of white sand. The water was a similar turquoise blue of Ko Phi Phi and we were looking forward to getting out and snorkeling. We knew that finding some budget accommodation was going to be tough and expected to pay a little more, however after walking the beach from top to bottom we were surprised how nasty the budget stuff was. We took the plunge and treated ourselves to a room at the Fantasy resort, with its huge international open restaurant touching the beach, swimming pool, and luxury bungalows surrounded by beautiful gardens. Our room was in a small ... read more
I think this is the 4th or 5th time we have landed in Bangkok. You feel more at home after so many alien airports and landscapes. We changed spare Singapore and Malaysian currency into Baht checked the exchange rate at around 50 to the £ about 30% less than 4 years ago and looked for the cheapest ticket into town. The air conditioned airport bus is only 150 Baht so we clambered aboard and after 45 minutes were deposited a short walk from the top of Koahsan road (police station end!). Despite my optimism we found most hotels either full or too expensive and I was left with the bags while the girls went off in search of a room. Duly found at just 430 for a triple room with fan, it overlooked the popular busy ... read more
Internet was so expensive in Koh Tao that I didn't really get a chance to update. Now we are in Trang, which is on the Andaman Coast. We are on our way to do a visa run in Malaysia since we found out that the Thai government stupidly changed the rules on us. When we came back in the country from Cambodia, we only got a 15 day stamp and we were confused but quickly found out that they only give you 30 days if you arrive via the airport and 15 days if you cross at a border crossing as we had. This really messed up our plans that we had made so carefully resulting in a few changes such as making our way all the way south to Malaysia when previously we were going ... read more
