Ahhh..Japan. Well I was told the week before that I would be going to Japan to do my Visa run. A Visa run is something that you have to do in order to get a working Visa. Technically I am suppose to have one of these before coming to Korea to work, but for some reason, alot of the schools here just want a teacher over here as soon as possible and then they have to send the teacher to Japan for a few days in order for them to get their working Visa. It really makes no sense to me. They could have waited 1 more week to fly me over to Korea and I would have had my working Visa all figured out. Instead they fly me over here right away. Then they spend ... read more

Well, I just got back from a pretty interesting night...it was called teacher training, or teacher membership... I actually cant remember what it was called. But, by the name you can tell its going to be pretty exciting! But first...my 1st week of teaching all by my lonesome was this last week. I think that it actually went pretty good. My favorite class so far is cooking! I love it! This week we made grilled cheese! All of the students loved it and most of them had never had them before! My first class everyday is with the Apollo students (the ones I posted a picture of.) They are 6 years old and man, they are an interesting group of kids. Ok...so during the week I didnt really do too much. Hung out around Youngtong with people here, got my internet and banking all figured out, yup, pretty exciting. I came across some more money so I decided instead of hanging around Youngtong for the weekend that I should go somewhere. Trena was back from China and she was up for doing something so I headed back up to Seoul to meet her. Friday I met some of her friends that she had met in China and we all went to an 80's bar in Hongdae. Good night out, nothing too exciting happened and it actually ended up being a pretty early night. Saturday we decide we want to go to the beach. I really had no idea what I was looking for but I found some ... read more

So, my weekend was good. My friends from here all decided to go to Seoul to go party. We left here around 11 and was in Seoul around 11:45. I went to Trenas and we got ready there. We met up with everyone around 1am and partied until 5am. Everyone was still going hard (because the bars dont really close until 7 or 8...or maybe even later. I still havent experienced closing time to know for sure. But when I do, I'll let you know) When we got in the cab to go home I was incredibly tired. It hit me like a bag of bricks. I barely made it into bed and I was out like a light. The next day we decided to go shopping. I was going to get a phone and a ... read more

So Bear Camp yesterday. It was actually not too bad. Other than it was like 30 above and ridiculously humid...I was sweating more than I think I have ever sweat before. Yup, I was pretty hot. K, to get started we get all the kids rounded up, get on the bus and go to the camp. We got there, unpacked, looked around for a bit, saw the bears quickly (they did not look very healthy though. One of them looked like it was having severe bowel issues. I wondered what they were fed because they didnt seem like they were doing too good) After that we had some lunch and did some sledding on this hill they had set up. After that we went back to where we had lunch and one of the guys that ... read more

I have conqueured the cold water showers! Turns out there is actually this knobby thing I have to turn on in order to heat my water...and my floors at the same time. Therefore I have to turn it off again right after my shower or my apartment would be like 5 million degrees. Granted...I like my place a bit on the warm side...but thats a bit much. I also think I have conquered my washing machine...that is all in korean with pictures that really dont give me any indication of what it might do, and lots of lights. I just pressed some buttons and hoped it worked. My clothes seemed to come out ok, so I think I'm just going to go with it. I also cooked in my super tiny kitchen as well. I dont ... read more

Well I'm 2 days in now. Haha, thats actually kind of weird b/c it seems like I have already been here so much longer. Thats a good thing though because so far its great here! Anyways, in the 2 days I've been here, these are somethings I have noticed so far. -There are these tiny ant like things that keep coming around in my kitchen, even though I kill like 50 every day. I'm probably going to find a massive colony of them when I attempt to clean the kitchen. - It smells like spam every morning when I walk outside my apartment. I actually read in a book that when you are invited over to someones house you are suppose to bring a gift...and an acceptable gift would be spam. Haha, sweet. - Traffic lights ... read more

Hey everybody! So I finally made it here. Ugh, what a long trip. I am not a big fan of planes whatsoever. K, so far everything has been pretty low key. The flight and everything was fine. I got to Korea around 5:30pm Thursday and a lady was suppose to be there to meet me. I waited and waited, but no one showed. I figured that I would stick out like a sore thumb considering I was the only blonde, so she must not have been there. Thankfully I had her number so I exchanged some money and tried to use the pay phone. Tried is the main word there. Good thing for friendly taxi drivers. He saw me struggling to figure it out, so he came up and did it all for me. Haha, he ... read more

Welcome back to the blemish on webspace that I continue to fill. This could end up being a long one as it’s been some time since I left a mark for you all to suffer upon. We left off at the end of February and it’s now April. At the beginning of March myself, Scott-teacher and Fiona ventured into Seoul in search of protests and flag burning as it was the anniversary of the initial rebellion against the Japanese army’s colonisation of Korea, alas we saw none. However, we did manage to catch a glimpse of some traditional Korean dancing and some marching bands. There I had my photo taken by a random South African fellow, who we later discovered was actually a member on DPC... you can view that picture in his portfolio. After this ... read more

Here we are again... taking this kitten for the ride of her life... or was that just a dream? I'm sure you've all been waiting for me to spit more irrelevant dribble... so here it goes. I last left you with a repulsive photo of myself slipping the tongue into a fish... this one will be cleaner, I hope. Since then there has been many a night out, many a weekend away and many an event worth splattering some virtual ink for. Enjoy. Firstly... I purchased the toy camera known as the "Holga 120N," a beast by any standards... it is entirely made of plastic, bearly able to focus on anything, full of light leaks and ready for horrible photos to emerge. A few of these are able to be viewed in my DPC Profile. This ... read more
