Saturday, 24th April 2010 Touching down at the modern Incheon International Airport at 6.30pm this evening, I had spent my last 10 hours journeying from home to Seoul. To save on my airfare, I had opted for a change of plane at the Hong Kong International Airport rather than a direct option. It was closed to 7pm after clearing the customs and collecting my baggage. Finding the correct bus to my destination wasn't difficult. I stopped by at the airport limousine bus counter manned by a middle aged woman. "A bus ticket to Hongdae please!" I showed her the Korean address of my guesthouse just to make sure that we were on the same frequency. "9,000 won please," said the lady. I parted my money in exchange for a bus ticket ticket for service # 6002. ... read more

Bees Knees. It's a drink and it's a little delicious. gin. lemon juice, honey syrup and a twist of lemon peel. I like the name and I really like gin and well, anyone who knows me at all will know I have a thing for bee's. Oh, and I was a bee for Halloween but it was hastily thrown together. No mini skirts or fishnets for this bee, no, no.. it was all very pg and appropriate since it was for the kiddies. I forgot my wings at home which was I think, the best part of the outfit. I can't seem to pull off wings unless it's for Halloween. We have a new director now, I may have mentioned this previously but this is the 3rd in 8 months for our school. It's alright though, ... read more

Wanted to show you where I'm staying for the next few days- BeBop Guesthouse in the Hongdae area, one stop down the line from Sinchon. I got a taxi here on Wednesday morning and almost made it all the way without issue, but then the driver got lost. So I quick called up and asked for directions and one of the owners, MK, actually came out to the street corner to meet me. He helped me get my big bag inside too. Thankfully my four person female-only room is on the first floor. I don't want to imagine what it would have been like trying to get my bag upstairs. Oy. It's got a very cool, hipster vibe that I've missed for the past couple years in my travels. The last time I was in a ... read more

I swear, they really need to make the Hongdae exit 5 bigger. That's the one closest to the main dining and shopping district. Every time I've been there, although that's only been two times, you have to get in line to climb the stairs out. Outside, there's tons of people milling about, waiting for their friends. I kind of stick out, so my friend Yewon had no trouble finding me in the crowd. She took me to a highly recommended Japanese noodle place on a back street of Hongdae. The food was really tasty, but you probably could have told me it was a Korean noodle dish we were having and I would have accepted it. It didn't have any particular "Japanesesy" taste and they gave us kimchi too, which just totally confused my taste buds. ... read more

I finally spent a night on the town on Saturday! As I may or may not have mentioned earlier, our dorm has a curfew from midnight to 5:30am. What this means in real terms is that we are locked out for 5.5 hours. Which is a really effective way to make sure you don't become a party animal while at Yonsei. Not that I'm a party animal, but still. Anyway, I planned for a week prior to Saturday to stay out all night. For someone like me who loves to sleep, that meant taking a disco nap the day of and mentally preparing myself to see the sun rise. It actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to stay up that long (can you tell I'm a lightweight on the party scene?). The ... read more

Herro!! Bam here I'm is with another blog post. I know you've been anxiously waiting but your wait is over. This week has actually been pretty awesome. I slept through pychology again -__-. Monday night I couldn't sleep, so I ended up finishing The Office. I'm all caught up now. David went drinking and came back late(Yeah, monday night. people do that). I was trying to go to sleep but MAN that guy can snore. He usually snores, yes, but the alcohol brought out the beast in his nose. Because holy crap it was like I was sleeping in the same room as a rhinoceros. Anyhow, I saw Katie during one of the Korean class breaks and she said that she was going to a baseball game with some people and asked if I wanted to ... read more

Drawing Inspired by Art at Seoul Museum of Art During my first visit to the Seoul Museum of Art I was so inspired by the drawings I saw that I decided to buy some drawing pencils and I made this little sketch. My mom (in Dutch "Mam") used to take me to the Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, when I was a boy. But I have not drawn anything since I was about sixteen. Now in my dottering (spelling?) old age I have suddenly rediscovered the desire to draw and perhaps paint again. The art work here in Korea really is quite good and in Cheonan I visited a major gallery. There is a great deal of experimental art coming out of the People's Republic of China and some of it is very provocative and ... read more

Hello everybody, This our last day in Korea, time flies, we've been very busy somehow. The main reason we decided to go to Korea in the first place was because Tara's sister Mikhel (her picture is on the Hawaii blog) was adopted from Korea, and Tra wanted to retrace the footsteps of her sister. So we first headed to Daegu (South East of the country) where we knew she was left on the doorstep of an orphanage. We knew the the orginal building was gone but we had the location and headed there. It is now the location of a large appartement complex and we were quiet a curiosity with the locals when we were touring around the premises and taking pictures. People came to us and we were trying to explain what we were doing. ... read more
