So, I've had an interesting few days. I haven;t met up with Ashley yet, but I'm supposed to meet her in two hours. Turns out I had the wrong number for her for a little while, then I figured it out. Yesterday I went to the zoo. It was pretty cool, one of the better ones I've been to. Plus, they specialize in primates, which is always interesting to me. The previous day I walked around in the financial district. Kind of overwhelming. Clean, though. Not much else really to say about Singapore, but look at the photos and you'll get an idea.... read more

Hello guys. Have just got to Perth but will tell you all about Singapore first. Well after the long journey there we finally got to our hostel and began our first problem with hostel booking forms...... long story. Anyway it did get better, we walked the City back to front, from the main shopping area-Orchard road to Chinatown and Sentosa Island. The place was so well looked after with beautiful plants everywere. The humidity was a little unbearable but it didn't stop us and and to save a little dosh we mostly walked. chinatown was great, although David must look like he would look good in a suit as we were hassled by many tailers!! I know Dad.... you did tell us!! Sentosa Island was amazing and the trip over there was a little scary on ... read more

So as you may have noticed, I was writing my last entry at about 2:30am local time this morning. I had arrived at the airport in Singapore at midnight, and didn't leave until about 7:15 this morning. Actually, it's one of the greatest airports I've ever been in. There are flights coming and going 24 hours a day, so a lot of the airport is open 24 hours. I spent the night at the first cafe until about 5am working on my blog, responding to various emails that have been waiting for responses over the last few weeks, and taking care of othr business, then thinking about what I would do in Cambodia when I go there next. I'm thinking I'll spend about 2 weeks there, but as there is no cash access there, I have ... read more

. . . or 10 days, but that just doesn't sound as impressive. I had a most enlightening experience at Wat Suan Mokkh. Although I don't have a lot of stories to tell, I can give you a brief sketch of what I did. And, as so frequently promised, photos will follow in a future update. I arrived on 31 August 2006 at about 11am, completed registration, and had lunch. then I basically hung around, met a couple of people, and prepared myself for the next few days. I slept that night on the straw mat that they had provided to place over the concrete slab that was my bed. also available to me was a wooden pillow. actually, if the pillow were just about an inch slimmer top to bottom, it would have been pretty ... read more

Today's our last full day in Singapore. We get a bus to Jota Baru (or somewhere) in Malaysia (just over the border) tomorrow, and from there we're going to Malacca. More on that when we get there... We took a look around the colonial area of town yesterday - went through Raffles' hotel, looked at a cathedral and a church as well (not as impressive as the European churches but that's not what this part of the world is famed for). Raffles is the Englishman who was basically the founder of modern Singapore. If he hadn't landed in the fishing village in the early 1800s, this place wouldn't been the thriving metropolis it is today. There's a lot of respect ofr this guy. The waterfront along the Singapore River (island, city and river all have the ... read more

Hello from Singapore! Heres the lowdown on what we have been up to so far in this rather nice (and very posh) city. As you know we got here and i wasn't sick even once on the way (huray for travel sickness tablets). We went out for a meal after we arrived and found a good little food court in Bugis village and eat pad Thai (yum yum). Then we went back to the hotel and slept until miday on friday. I did feel pretty wobbly then but as soon as I got out it was fine. On our first day we wondered down to Orchard Road whic is a very big street lined with shopping centers. Yes i mean malls not department stores. Pretty crazy place, must be so much money kicking about this place. ... read more

The day after I got back from Hong Kong, Angel and I decided to catch up that night since we hadn't seen each other since last year. Before that though, AJ and I met at Paragon for some drinks. We didnt have too much time to catch up though, as Angel was coming to meet me soon. Once Angel got there, we went to the place where she gets all of her tattoos. I was sweating a little as I had never had one before. I showed the guy which tattoo I wanted and he drew up several designs for me. I wanted to get love written in Chinese. I chose my design, and away we went. The first few lines he drew on my tummy hurt a little, but after a while it kind of ... read more

The Flight (and Dubai International Airport) 20 hours of sleepless, strapped-in waiting? No problem. The planes had those cool screens on the seat in front so you could watch films and play games. Thanks to my long-running Tetris addiction, along with the Incredibles and Family Guy on command, my first flight went relatively quickly and pleasantly. The second was less fun and longer, because we were trying to sleep, which is difficult when the plane makes a stop in Sri Lanka on the way and you have to wake up and adjust the pressure in your ears. Dubai airport was impressive, and huge. Can't remember who told me to look out for those flying saucers at Dubai, but they were there alright. Big, silver and saucer-shaped. There's nothing else they could have been. Arriving at Singapore ... read more

It was my last day with the travel agency yesterday after nearing 2 months into the job. I was glad to be able to leave with a light heart having finished my last 2 assignments - booking the Hainan Island tickets for 11 customers and completed a tour briefing on Perth with a regular customer (my first and FINAL ATTempt). 2 months into the job, I was tired but happy. Tired of answering calls and attending to strange customers asking silly questions. And tired of bluffing my way through in order to close sales. And happy that I’ve made some good friends along the way from all walks of life & different nationalities. This job experience as a tour consultant is something that I will remember for life. I still enjoy traveling but close friends told ... read more

Well we have got here. We are now in Singapore. The trip was ok, no lost bags or anything. Nearly missed the connection at Dubai beacuse they fialed to anounce a gate change until the final call. It's a bit strange coming back here after 4 years. It's all so familiar, the smell the air, the food, the people. I best go and sleep now as the room has started to spin. All i can say is thats it's really really good to be back.... read more
