Corinne and David are finally going on their long awaited RTW trip including Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Cook Islands, Tahiti and California. Hope you enjoy our BLOG!
Its been a while, I know!!! But have decided to finish the blog off. So USA- we Arrived in LA and had a few days to enjoy Hollywood and do all the star spotting stuff- although only saw one- Mike Tyson! We went to see all the famous peoples homes, which was cool to see how they live- Stupidly rich!!!! We then headed to Anaheim where we were supposed to meet our tour that woukld take us from La to San Fransisco but as we arrived we found out that the tour had been delayed for a week so we were forced to stay here and wait. In this time we just chilled and one day went to Universal Studios. A week later we joined our new group on a 2 wk tour. Our first stop ... read more
As we arrived in Fiji we instantly felt the heat, even though it was in the evening, and were greeted at the airport with a fijian band playing traditional music. Straight away we knew we were gonna love fiji. Our first impressions couldn't be any more true! We have had such a great time here and are glad we decided to come for almost a month instead of just a few days like most people do on there way home. We settled into our hostel and prepared the the exciting day ahead of us. We were of of the postcard-picture-perfect beachs of the Yasawa Islands. Whilst cruising between islands we had awesome fews of islands we couldn't visit but the ones we did were great. The first Island- 'Nanya leilei' was a larger island. We ... read more
Queenstown is a really cool place to stay, so whilst we were there we mainly chilled out, went for walks and enjoyed the amazing scenery of lakes and snow capped mountains. We also took a day trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound fiord, which was beautiful- plenty of waterfalls, which I got a bit carried away with taking pics. The boat got right up close and even under one of them, at this point I went inside as its a little too cold to get soaked! It was a really long day- about 13hrs so after experiencing such beauty we headed back to town. We also went up in the gondola for the views over the town as well as to let David have yet another go at the luge! Leaving Queenstown we headed back ... read more
Well I was right about struggling to climb Mount Tongariro. It was hard work! What made it harder was that we managed to pick the worst day for weather! The day tramp is one on NZ's great walks as from the top you can usually see both west and east coasts. Also the volcanic mountains are amazing in themselves (I have seen pictures). As far as our experience went we managed to see the ground and about 5 metres ahead the rest was mist and rain- horizontal rain at that due to the extreme wind speed. We met up with some older kiwi couples who reguarly tramped so we were safe in their hands. The next day (feeling very achy) we actually managed to see the mountains as the weather cleared up and we learnt ... read more
Well before I start going on about NZ I have to add our last experience in Australia- A tsunami warning heading to the North East coast of Australia- we were in Cairns!. The hostel made us pack up important things and watch the TV news waiting for a signal to get to higher ground (the multistory shopping complex car park!). The owner went around banging on peoples doors to wake them up (it was in the am) and although a little scary, a bit of a buzz too. Fortunately though Australia was ok although other islands in the pacific were affected. The end of our stay down under was over and it was time to say goodbye to the tropical heat and board the plane heading to Auckland, NZ. When we arrived it was weird ... read more
The outback ranch experience was awesome!!!! I had the best, most exhilirating horseride that I have had for a long time! Only 3 of us out of the whole group were experienced riders so the leader Jackaroo took us on a fun ride before mustering the goats. Before we headed off he asked us all if we were all sure we wanted to go on this part of the ride as it was a 'dangerous ride', I went with it but wandered what the hell I had got myself into- after all its been a while since I rode properly. So off we went staight into a full on gallop though the dust and trees that lined the majorly huge farmland. We skidded to a halt as we reached a hill edge, the horses scrambled ... read more
Well we survived Fraser Island and had a awesome time in the process. When we first arrived at the backpackers in Hervey Bay we were a little anxious but excited. All the people around seemed to be guys so I started to worry about being the only girl amongst a bunch of adrenaline hyped guys. But luckily right at the last minute a load of girls turned up to me relief. We were all put in groups of 10-12 and our group seemed to be the best with 3 couples, 2 single guys and 2 single girls- all who were a great laugh but still sensible. After a long safety talk we all headed to the shops to buy our food and alcohol for the 3 days that we were to be on the Island. This ... read more
We have been very busy since leaving Byron Bay (where the Surf camp ended). First we headed back to Brisbane, where we treated ourselves to go and watch a game of cricket. David has become obsessed with the game and I have enjoyed the one-day series too. We arrived at the Gabba stadium at 11am, the game started at 1.15pm and finished at about 8.30pm- so a long day but we thouroughly enjoyed the game and the atmosphere in the stadium. It was a victory for us pommies against the kiwis, we loved every bit it especially as 2/3 of the people there were NZ supporters (as the Barmey army had mostly gone back home after the Ashes). So at the beginning the kiwis were being all intimidating in there big groups, but the chanting soon ... read more
The long surf story begins; Day 1: ok, so the first day was weird and allowed all 29 of us to get to know each other. Our first ice breaker was the immense team work it took to make meat/salad wraps on the bus on the drive up the coast. The first thing david and I thought was how weird it was to see one of the leaders chopping up salad and mixing it in the bowl with his hands at the front of the bus- in England that would sooo not be allowed with all that health and safety lark! When we arrived at our first destination we were greeted by some of the other surf dudes and admired the amazing spot that we were to stay overnight. As all the camps were in national ... read more
Next time I update this blog all I will talk about is surfing so thought I would update on bits and bobs that we have been doing here in Sydney. As you all know I have been working as a vet nurse/receptionist here in Surry Hills, Sydney for the last 7wks and I have decided to cut it short by a few weeks (was supposed to do 10wks) as the job isn't really what I was looking for (not much nursing!!!!) and David and I just want to get back on the road and have lots more fun whilst we are out here!! Anyway, David got a new tattoo done here, about time for him- its been a while. He got a Japanese writing tattoo meaning 'a hard road travelled' ... he hopes!! on the inside ... read more
