Hello everybody, long time no see and read ;) Here a few pictures from Singapore and the Sentosa Island. Generally speaking I would say Singapore is nice, but still the typical Asian flair was missing for me. The city and the island was tooo westernised. But the island was nice. I liked the palm trees and the sand was white and like powder. Moreover, the island reminded me of an amusement park, everything was fake and made somewho for kids. They also copied stuff from other countries like the benches from Gaudi.

I am so tired it is unbelievable! We have walked and sweated so much and its only 4pm! So today was Sentosa Island day. We caught the Singapore Hop on bus for free, which only took us only 15 minutes as well. We then caught a bus (on the island) to see the Merlion, which you can climb to the top and get a great view; I think its 36m high… I swear Singapore and there air-conditioning systems!!! It was SO cold even Luke and Mark would get a bit cold but then you go outside and almost die of heat exhaustion! It was so bloody hot and humid outside we both felt like jumping straight into the ocean! Haha. So what did we do next? We had a drink @ The Coffee Bean and Tea ... read more

After the excitement of the zoo, we decided to spend a bit of time (the 2 days we had left here) exploring the city itself. After leaving the hostel and having breakfast, we headed to the conveniently located MRT station across the road from our hostel and headed to the Harbour Front, not too sure of what we were going to do but we'd read about a lot of different things. Getting off here, we noticed the cable cars heading from a nearby island (Sentosa Island) across the water and up a nearby hill. This looked like a bit of fun, but because it was a hot day, we decided to climb the hill manually, which turned out to be Mt Faber. We spent a while looking for the path up, with help from some garbled ... read more

Ok then! We wake and shower in our communal bathroom (not to bad actually, you get free soap and a towel in your room which is a very good thing in our situation!) and say prayers to BA for giving us a free toothbrush and paste on the plane. We have not heard from the management about the free tour, so leave the hotel at about 10.15 to start our exploring. We're both feeling a bit grotty in the same tops from yesterday so decide to go shopping first for a cheap top and some knickers! As we wonder around we can't help noticing how western it is, there is a Top Shop, River Island, Accesorize, Dorothy Perkins and millions of MacDonalds and Starbucks! Plus all the signs are in English and all the annoucements made ... read more

The other day our waiter who served the "Yankee Burger" asked if we'd been to Sentosa yet? When we said "no", he said "You haven't been to Singapore until you've been to Sentosa, you really must go". He also told us about the show "Song of the Sea" which is shown on the sea..... Sounded a bit like the incredible "Fantasmic" at Disney in Florida. That was it! We had to go. Like everywhere else in Singapore, it was so easy to get there. Just had to walk through another massive mall, to get to the Sentosa Express. Could have taken the cable car, but we had already agreed to go up in the Carlsburg Sky Tower. It being, a lot higher for the aerial photos.... Bought a ticket for a few of the attractions ... read more

To get to Singapore, we had the misfortune of having to get rid of our sticks of chewing gum (illegal under Singaporian law) and then catch a flight at 6am from Sydney. As Scotland v Argentina was on TV at 4am, I decided to get out of bed then and go down to the reception of the hostel where the match was being played on plasma screen. Sitting alongside a couple of other Scots, we took in the first half and then hollered a taxi outside at 5am to get to the airport. The 8 hour flight on Singapore Airlines was fine and as airline food goes, excellent. Once we collected our bags, we took a train from the airport towards the city centre to look for digs. The first thing we experienced on exiting the ... read more

Tuesday 25 September Off to Sentosa island. Took the cable car and went up the rotating tower. Saw the butterfly enclosure Stood on the southern most point of the Asian continent. Go to the butterfly and insect world some live and some under glass. Did you know that tassie has it's own flag? Well it has and I have the pictures to prove it. They had a world map of different insects and the nations flag. Australia had ours and tassie had theirs. On the way to underwater world there was a man with an albino python. Kate put it around her neck. I've got a picture of that too. Nice day out but because you're on an island they can charge what they want. Had lunch on sentosa beach (or one of them) looking out ... read more

In conjunction with the National Day celebrations, the author is pleased to present places of interest within his home country, Singapore, based on his recent encounters 21st July 2007 ~ My Sentosa Diary before the IR 12pm ~ The rain itself did not dampen our spirits this afternoon as we managed to secure a parking space beneath the Beach Station while waiting for the rain to stop. Prior to that, we took a beach tram to reece our picnic grounds at Siloso Beach. 12.10pm ~ It was time to fuel ourselves with some nasi lemak courtesy of Golden Shoe Car Park before the strenuous activities in the afternoon. 12.50pm ~ In the meantime, while waiting for the last bit of rain to clear, we kept ourselves busy with the chua dai di much to the ... read more
