Our tour began with a drive around the Civic District past the Padang, Cricket Club, historic Parliament House, Supreme Court and City Hall. First stop at the MERLION PARK for great views of Marina Bay and a picture-taking opportunity with The Merlion, a mythological creature that is part lion and part fish. Then a visit to THIAN HOCK KENG TEMPLE, one of Singapore’s oldest Buddhist-Taoist temples, before driving past Chinatown to watch craftsmen at work at a local handicraft centre. Next stop, the NATIONAL ORCHID GARDEN, located within Singapore Botanic Gardens, which boasts a sprawling display of 60,000 orchid plants. It was a beautiful and exotic place, but seen one orchid seen them all. Keen gardeners would have been in their elements. I enjoyed riding around the streets more so, seeing the sights and buildings. Day Two in Singapore… Today we decided to take a tourist day trip to a place called Sentosa (Dubbed a magical place but we’ll come to that latter….. take not the sarcasm..!!) which was arranged through the hotel tour company. So we meet up with the guide for this trip a little latter and to say she was like a dog on heat doesn’t even close to the mark. Oh my god…. This woman was nuts. She was something like a crazy world war two Japanese Boot Camp Commander….. who drank to much red bull….she had wings..!! She even hurried this poor old Irish guy with a limp from our hotel, who was lagging behind due to heat exhaustion for christ sake..!! And as for the so called Magical Kingdom…….. To sum up in just a ... read more

... read more

Our second day in Singapore and its New Years Eve (all ready...wheres this year gone!!). We got up early (after pressing snooze for a bit we left just before 10 ) and headed for our beloved metroto head for the harbour and to go to Sentosa island...its like a island (hence the name) with beaches, nature parks, aquarium and hotels and things on it. So we got there and opted for the bus...i think it was like Jurassic Park (without the dinosaurs) because you went round an island in a bus...very similar i thought...anyway.... we headed for Dolphin Lagoon first to see the show with pink...yes pink dolphins..they start out grey and then as they get older they turn pink that was good and they looked happy which i was pleased about . They did lots ... read more

Well, made it here to Siloso Beach Resort, Sentosa Island, after a long and fairly sleepless flight! I was very impressed with the quiet , clean, efficient, modern airport at Singapore and collected my baggage very quickly. Within thirty minutes of landing, I was in a taxi and on my way down the busy city highway....fringed with beautiful bouganvillea, palms and other tropical vegetation. The temperature was about 30c....but everywhere is air-conditioned and I soon arrived at the very new Siloso Beach Resort.....wow! Right on the beach....just had to get in that lovely, very warm calm, clean water!...mmmm!....but knackered after traveling and this was ideal way to relax. They have a great swimming pool here...longest in Singapore hotel? and the tallest, man-made waterfall... Had to try that out as well, of course! The evenings are very ... read more

Today we got up at a sensible time (not telling you what that is, you'll only laugh) and went to Sentosa Island. Sentosa is located just off the Singapore mainland and we went over on the cable car. It is kinda Singapore does Disney in a way - it is a themed island, full of water parks, hotels, restaurants, and underwater world, Dolphin display area, golf courses, museums etc etc It is also the site of the Southernmost tip of "continental Asia" a somewhat dubious and daft fact to be honest! However it was probably the closest we will come to standing on the equator on our travels - it is just 136km south of here. We tried to blag some deckchairs on the fake lagoon beach - but ended up getting accosted by the local ... read more

LOL I have a few opertunitys to go out and look around. Very nice. I have also done a few edays as well. So ya I have done a lot here. ... read more

We had a nce easy morning on our last day- all the sight seeing is pretty tiring! Went to Raffles hotel to have the famous Singapore Sling cocktail which was very nice- very cherryish! We also snacked on the tubs of monkey nuts that were on the tables! After that we got a taxi to the Harbour Front. We caught a cable car over to Sentosa Island. I was absolutely petrified- I hate cable cars! Hanging in the air on a wire does not seem safe to me!! (Kate took it all in her stride- very brave girl!) When we got there we caught the bus to the Underwater world. We saw all sorts of tropical fish and coral. We loved the angel fish- they're absolutely tiny and have wings like angels which they flap to ... read more

My trip is complete, last night I saw four monkeys on the roof of the hotel! They came to visit our work event by the pool. Tonight Evan and I are going on a night safari, I guess that is when all of the animals come out to play. There is even a bat cave where you stand there and they just fly around your head! Hopefully I'll get some good pictures of that. Tomorrow Evan is going to try golf again, he has a 7 am tee time (we'll see how that goes)! More to come! ... read more

Last leg of the trip...we couldn't leave Bintan without the ATV ride. Not too much new to report, but we thought these pictures were funny. We took the ferry at 2:30 and have made it safely to the Singapore hotel (Sentosa Resort). We are headed out to watch English Premiership Football Opening Day--we thought there would be a lot of British Pubs here and are going to go find out. More to come... Oh--there are monkeys here too. Nicole already saw one! ... read more
