So this is it! Day One of the long awaited trip we organised for months. Our first stop is Edinburgh via London. YES! We want to see the real HARRY POTTER. Okay, we have two more flights to knock down before I could taste my first proper haggis. We touched down at Changi Airport, Singapore at around midnight. We have 9 hours to kill before boarding our next flight to Heathrow. So, we decided to invest our money in one of the rooms at The Ambassador Transit Hotel at Terminal 3. We spend around $70 SGD for the 6 hour block. The hotel room is new and clean. It isn't huge but we have our own bathroom inside. It is inexpensive for what we get. It's money well spent. So we rushed into our room, got ... read more

Well, here we are in Singapore airport, aka Changi. In the Qantas/BA club in fact. Free food and drinks, and best of all a shower! Nothing better on a long trip than staying clean and fresh. I'll work out how to do text wrapping around pics later but here's the girls in the club with Hannah getting into the guava.... read more

I did not realized of the free feet massage machines around the airport, Irene (Lisi's friend in Singapore) told me later. I stayed at her place during my stance in Singapore. It is a beautiful city, clean and safe. As Irene and Fran (Irene's boyfriend) say is 'Asia for beginners'. It reminds me of Dubai (although I have never been there). I stayed in his house for 3 days, to start the trip in an amazing ... read more

Sadly, we had to leave after a lovely, if somewhat hot, 4 days. Last night we had a farewell cruise in the Andaman Sea on a yacht captained by a dubious bunch of seamen (looked more like pirates to Mary). But we had great fun and an excellent meal. And saw a beautiful sunset. During the cruise, the crew lowered a rope net into the water and the more adventurous guests jumped into the water and were hauled along in the net, drink beer from cans thrown down by the crew. How cool is that? Alas, we didn't have swim suits so we couldn't join them It was a real UN crowd. We conversed with Australian, Indian, Finns and other unidentified nationalities. The stars of our visit to Langkawi were the Dusky Leaf Monkeys. They go ... read more

Sorry about the misspelling on the previous entry. We only get 15 mins per session here. We didn't tell you about the Monitor Lizard that we met in Kuah. Nor about the Jeweller's shop at the airport. (Mary will have to tell you about that! ) At any rate, we're here in plenty of time to catch our next flight. ... read more

Currently at Changi airport, waiting at gate for boarding to Kuala Lumpur. Landed last Saturday (the 19th), a couple of hours late from Istanbul. Checked in at the hotel in Geylang (which also turned out to be a red light district, haha) and went out for dinner at Hard Rock Cafe, just down from Orchard Road. These past days we've managed some shopping (I've never used taxis so frequently, and they've never been so cheap!) around Orchard road and Bugis Junction, we've visited both Singapore Zoo and Sentosa Island and eaten in several really good restaurants and food junctions. We also went to see Couple's Retreat and Avatar (in 3D!) at the Cinemax in Bugis. The weather's been great, not so much rain as we anticipated, but far too moisty for me to get used to. ... read more

I've just made my way to Oz to suprise mum for Christmas and I have had 2 jam packed days in Singapore. The 12 hour flight set the jetlag off and from the moment I arrived I was pretty tired but was determine not to let that interrupt the adventures. I stayed at the Habitat Hostel which promotes itself as a luxury Hostel. In my opinion it was very average. It's location was great, just off Orchard Road but the only good thing in the hostel was the queen size bed. I didn't spend too much time there so it didn't really matter. First impressions of Singapore were really great. It is soooooooo clean and the streets are covered in christmas lights. The shopping options are incredible. First stop was China Town and I was very ... read more

From Shell: I think we were both sad to leave Africa but also wondering about a stop over in Singapore, when we were so close to home (relatively). However, when it ended up taking us 20 hours to get from Nairobi to our hotel in Singapore due to delays in Johannesburg, we were more than ready to soak up shower time, bed time and pool side bar time. Fortunately, our hotel in Singapore turned out to be adequately posh and relaxing for our planned R&R. We didn't do alot - particularly when outside was like a sauna and inside was like a freezer. We did make several quests to find non-food shopping markets, finally suceeding in a muslim district and buying some nice summer tops and trinkets. We also walked on the beach (as they were ... read more

Arrived Darwin airport and checked in for our Crapstar flight (whoops.. Jetstar) to Singapore. We had planned on bringing our backpacks on as cabin luggage as Damian had a great plan to hang out in the transit lounge and try and get into QANTAS club so we could shower, eat and drink for free and hang out there for our 8 hour layover before heading to Siem Reap. Well, that plan backfired. We had to check our luggage in which meant we had to clear immigration and customs in Singapore and pray to god that we could check in early for our flight to Sieam Reap. The flight from Darwin to Singa's was uneventful except for the baby crying for the entire flight and an annoying Australian bloke sitting on the row across from us crapping ... read more
