Well we woke up this morning in a world of pain from the drinks last night and were running around as usual like blue arsed flies trying to pack and fit everything in our backpacks. Got downstairs and were waiting for the bus to pick us up when we realised we didn't have the ticket receipt for the bus. Of course I was swearing Damian as he'd allegedly been the last to have them, so whilst he was swearing and opening his bag on the pavement and throwing shit around, I ran up to the room for a last minute check. NOTHING!. I then opened my bag and found them sitting there. I felt like a complete dickhead as we were basically claiming that the staff hadn't given us our ticket. To this day I still ... read more
We had to change hotels today as we had decided to stay an extra day cause we loved the place. The Goldie Boutique was booked so we moved around the corner to the Golden Gate. It was $20 a night and had free laundry. We were only down to about 1 shirt each and basically to the point of wearing our undies inside out to get extra use so the poor bastards had to wash about 5kgs of clothes. We had a good sleep in and dragged ourselves out of bed about 11 and went to the Anise Hotel for Breakfast. We then found John and he took us back to the Central Markets where we went stupid. I love looking through the food section and seeing all the meat and seafood getting carved up and ... read more
Anyway last night we ended up going for a walk around the riverfront for some cheap drinks. There are cafes and bars everywhere so you don't have to look too hard. We met a little guy who had no legs but was selling bracelets with countries on them and their flags. His name was Hun Yut and he couldn't speak English but we got another girl to translate. We told him off for not having any Australian bracelets but he could do 2 for us in 2 hours. He was selling them for $1 each so Damian gave him $3 and told him that we would be back the next night at 7pm to pick them up. He was lovely and it was good to see that he wasn't begging or hawking but was using his ... read more
Today we decided to head to Tuol Song, the Killing Fields, The Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and the Russian Markets. We met a Tuk Tuk driver out the front of our hotel (there are about 6 regular drivers who pay to get work there). His name was Con and he was a 'ChildSafe' driver. We had read about Childsafe drivers on the internet before we arrived. They basically get trained and certified to look after Cambodian kids on the street and report anyone who they think is in danger so it's a good cause. He was also the Uncle of one of the girls who worked at the reception of our hotel. We asked him how much for the day and he said $20. We might not be tight arses, but come on. The girl at ... read more
Woke up at 0630 as we were on our way to Phnom Penh and were gettting picked up at our hotel at 0745. As usual, we were hungover, hadn't packed shit so between swearing, chucking tantrums, finding what what we wanted, then losing it two seconds later it was tense morning. We finally got our act together and were ready and waiting downstairs to pay our hotel bill. Usually they make you pay the whole bill when you get there but for some reason, they let us pay at the end. The total for 3 nights and bus tickets it was $56. BARGAIN!!! I popped a valium so I wouldn't kill Damian, any other passengers or myself on the 6 hour trip to PP. When our bus arrived to pick us up I thought it was ... read more
I am 4 days behind in my blog so will make this quick. Last day in Siem Reap and it was raining so lucky we did all our temple stuff the 2 days before. We had a look at the markets where I managed to spend about $70 on a dress, a couple of tops, some cambodian pants which rock and god knows what else. We ended up getting a massage for $7 each which was abit freaky at the start. They took us up to this room with four beds and told us to get undressed, then left. We were lying there wondering whether we were going to be forced in to having group sex (Damian's fantasy) but it all turned out well at the end. I was in pain for some of it as ... read more
Well today was 0430 wake up time to see sunrise over Angkor Wat. Our guide was arriving at 0515 to pick us up. As I had consumed a massive amount of alcohol on Pub Street the night before I couldn't even open my eyes. Damian woke me and said to hurry up and get in the shower. I refused and said that I wasn't going to go. We were also supposed to go to Banteay Srei which is 32kms from Siem Reap but because of the roads, it takes about an hour to get there. I told him to go by himself cause I was hungover like a dog. He ended up leaving for the sunrise walking out the door and calling me a 'farken idiot'. All I could manage in my state was a very ... read more
Landed in Siem Reap at around 0705 with only 1 hours sleep at the most after going all day and the night before. There were only about 30 people on the plane. Arrived At Siem Reap Airport which is quite lovely, reminded me a bit of Koh Samui airport but not as beautiful. We had already arranged a guide a month earlier called Darith Touch who we found on Trip Advisor and had booked him to pick us up from the airport and take us to the temples for the next two days. As soon as we got to the airport entrance it was a shit fight. Everyone had to fill out swine flu forms which they obviously thought was too difficult to add it to the extra paperwork we had to fill in on the ... read more
Arrived Darwin airport and checked in for our Crapstar flight (whoops.. Jetstar) to Singapore. We had planned on bringing our backpacks on as cabin luggage as Damian had a great plan to hang out in the transit lounge and try and get into QANTAS club so we could shower, eat and drink for free and hang out there for our 8 hour layover before heading to Siem Reap. Well, that plan backfired. We had to check our luggage in which meant we had to clear immigration and customs in Singapore and pray to god that we could check in early for our flight to Sieam Reap. The flight from Darwin to Singa's was uneventful except for the baby crying for the entire flight and an annoying Australian bloke sitting on the row across from us crapping ... read more
