I spent my childhood and teenage life in just one school. It was approximately 15mins. on foot. Basically, I was used to travelling within short distances and that was my life for almost 11 years. But it was a totally different story when I graduated from high school. I received a letter from a certain universityin the capital and there it was, my new route was already set.. new life and new adventure. When I created this blog, I thought I would fill it with my up and coming trips in and out of the country. But then, another epiphany came just minutes ago. I realized why not share with you guys how I lived and tell you stories of bizarre adventures I had within the metropolis and outside Mega Manila. I must say, the four ... read more

I am a believer. Whenever people ask me if I want to go abroad to work, I would always say "Naah. I'll stay here." Some pessimists wonder why not just go out of the country and earn more in greener pastures? I just know it in my heart that no matter what we hear and see today around us, the sun will always shine in our nation and will be brighter than ever. I used to work in one of the most beautiful buildings in Makati - the RCBC Tower, and look through the clear glass windows at 4 or 5AM during my break and see the beauty and calmness of the sky above Makati. I thought, Philippines will have more of these. That was about five years ago, and I still believe it. Now, ... read more

After checking out at Joya Lofts and Towers in Makati, we decided to pass by at Resorts World Manila since it was on our way and it was still early so ok we said let's try to see what's the fuss about this place. We just took pictures of ourselves at The Plaza, a big open space at Newport Mall, there's also vast variety of local and international cuisine of restaurants for you to choose. While at the Newport Performing Arts Theater you can watch newly shown movies at premium cinemas or watch performances of The Sound of Music. While there, me and my sister registered to become a free member at one of their member ship counters. Before that, I already registered online so the guy at the counter just asked for my name and ... read more

We checked-in at Joya Lofts and Towers at Rockwell to celebrate Adriel’s belated 5th Birthday last Jan.28, 2012. We were accommodated on a 1 Bedroom Executive with a living room with beautiful interiors; fully-equipped kitchen and also a balcony where the view boasts of the tall buildings surrounding the Makati area. We really liked the place because it has so much space(60sqm), good for family or friends. The Powerplant Mall was also just right in front of Joya, you just have to walk not very far to go to the mall if you want to relax, go shopping or eat out. I bought an angry birds cake at Conching Sabale’s before we went there and I’m really glad that Adriel liked it a lot. Before we sang Adriel the customary Happy Birthday, we went to sample ... read more

Ayala Triangle Symphony of Lights runs yearly and somehow became a tradition for 3 years already. Ayala Triangle locates at the heart of Makati Central Business District. Since last year, after seeing it on TV, I was really keen on seeing the light show with Hannah, but since it was very far from us I always nixed the idea of going to the city just to watch this show. However, one weekend, I decided to go watch it with Hannah and Mel, not fully realizing we were about to go to the city on a Friday, which was the day that has the most traffic! Wow, wrong move... I was able to realized that once we were on the bus already and was stucked on the traffic! Anyway, after about an hour and a half trip ... read more

I've received countless comments - well over 1,000 - supporting my view of Manila expressed in my notorious post of 4th September. Unfortunately a TINY minority have disgraced themselves by writing incoherent insults, especially on Facebook, some directed at my family members. These people demeaned themselves and disgraced their country. By and large they were young and living outside the Philippines. What follows is an edited version of a post I just placed on my Quartermaine's Worlds Facebook page. For those that want facts to see where I came from on the original post, here they are. And please, if you can't help making a fool of yourself and writing offensively, remember, I WILL publicise your name by printing it in full (assuming you have the courage to put your name to i... read more

Someone described Manila “It's not paradise. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Or (good, undiluted) coffee. It's dirty here and there. We arrived in Manila late in the evening and took an Airport taxi to our guesthouse. Pretty sure he pulled a fast one and drove by the guesthouse so he could do another loop and make the meter go higher. He was a very unfriendly guy. We told him we had the phone # of the guesthouse but he said something was wrong with his phone, though a few minutes later he called a coworker on it, and then tried the hotel and said the # didn’t work. When we got to the guesthouse we showed the hotel guy the # and he said it was fine. Anyway, after a long day we got some ... read more

I've received over 900 comments on my post about "Manila - Awfully Disappointing". Viral on Facebook! Wow! Good Grief! Thanks. I'll review as many as I can. I'm PUBLISHING all the most egregiously offensive comments that have their author's name attached; these people need the publicity. And I'm holding the one from "George Clooney" until he verifies that it's really from him:) Respect, Sir, if it really was from you. The reference to the coffee was homage to your really brilliant TV advert. And, yes, I will improve my grammar - man it's a BLOG, written casually, not a World Bank report. Sigh. I wish people would have the balls to use their own names. I do...... Most folk apparently agree with what I've said, but I certainly don't ask for that. I welcome criticism - ... read more

Uodate January 2013: As I expected, my recent post (Jan 2013) extolling the virtues of Mindanao has been COMPLETELY ignored by Pinoys and others alike. Over 99,000 hits on this negative comment on Manila, but less than one hundred on a post that is very positive about another part of the Philippines. Says something about human nature, doesn't it. I am NO LONGER ACCEPTING COMMENTS OR MESSAGES ABOUT THIS POST. IT's DEAD!!!! I considered deleting it completely, but what the.... Anyway DO NOT BOTHER WRITING ABOUT THIS ONE ...because I won;t read your comment and will delete it immediately. If you want to read about the positive side of the Philippines, go read that post. Happy to hear from you. Update 12th October 2011: This post seems to have gone viral. I've had nearly 500 comments.... ... read more
