Volunteer Abroad?

just wondering what are some good recommendations to look for in an international volunteering experience in South East Asia.

I was checking out <snip> and wondered about volunteering abroad. It looks like a great program on some nice islands in the region. I contacted them and they don't charge the crazy prices of some other international volunteering programs. Why should I pay $2000 for 2 weeks of volunteering?! Besides cost, what can you recommend about volunteering overseas? Especially in South East Asia?
