left kathmandu, a place that was such a welcome break to me from the relentlesness of india! and made my way to pokhara, a six hour bus ride west of kathmandu, or so they say! it actully took 9 hours because of a accident that killed a child, so the village people blocked the road until they got compensation! i love the way this country works, want something doing, make a fuss! met up with laura in pokhara, also met up with a mate from india who had just finished a 16 day trek! so i spent only one night in pokhara and then the next morning at 6am made our way out of pokhara by taxi to start our trek! i'm not really sure how to put into words the whole six days, because it ... read more

Dnes po obede sa nam uspesne podarilo vratit z treku. Za tych pat dni sa nam nahromadilo tolko zazitkov, ze nema najmensiu cenu to skusat nejak podrobne opisovat. Podrobnosti teda nejakym pripadnym zaujemcom az osobne, teraz len vseobecne info. Vyrazili sme z dedinky Naya Pul asi hodinku cesty autom od Pokhary a odtial sme pat dni dupali cez Ulleri, Ghorapani, Tadapani, Landruk az do Phedi.

Dnes sme absolvovali sedem hodinovu cestu busom z Kathmandu do Pokhary.

Since I haven't decided yet whether to do the annapurna circuit (and I thought I'd be done with decisions for awhile when I left Israel), I decided to try and take a hike. At first I was supposed to meet some Israeli friends for a leisurely morning in a cafe on the lake, but I heard that Elizabeth and Carlos, my guesthouse-mates, were going up to the stupa and to Devi's falls with two friends of theirs (Marie and James). I thought I could definitely use the workout before leaving on the trek, and that it would be a good opportunity to check whether I was fit enough to go. We took a shortcut through the dam, and found ourselves in the forest where many more than two roads diverged. Followed by a dozen small Nepali ... read more

These past couple of days have been pretty bad. Though there are many nice people here, the combination of traveling alone, being sick and trying to decide whether to take rabies shots has been pretty nerve wrecking. But I decided that whatever I choose, today things are taking a turn for the better. I decided to take another rabies shot today, to leave myself more time to decide. On the way back I decided it was time to stop with the taxis and start taking buses. The local bus dropped me in the center of town (of the real town, not the touristic part) so I walked around a bit to take in the atmosphere. I bought a shawl from a vendor and he told me there was a flower festival and how to get there. ... read more

So much has happened since last time I wrote, but I guess that's just how trips go. Everything becomes more intense - the ups, the downs, all the senses sharpen. I spent two days in Kathmandu, walking around the city - to Durbar sq. and to the monkey temple. I don't know why everyone takes rikshas and taxis there, the best part, in my opinion, was just roaming the streets, getting a feel of the city outside thamel, where people don't know that if they say namaste it means they want to sell you something, kids wave at you just to say hi. Unfortunately, when I was in the monkey temple a monkey scratched me (I didn't provoke it! I didn't even see it!), but I was relived to see there was no blood, so I ... read more

I'm at the base of the Himalayas -- and the clouds won't leave! -- It's October and normally there isn't a cloud in the sky.... but for the past 24 hours the clouds have hung around and only got a small glimps of Annapurna this morning... Camera in hand - hopefully tomorrow I'll see more of the mountains and better yet -- photograph them!!!! Wishing the clouds would leave, Bryan... read more

Kali Gandaki Rafting Having arrived in Pokhara we decided to leave straight away on a 3 day rafting trip. Together with 2 Irish, 1 Aussie and 21 Israelis set off on the bumpy road to the Kali Gandaki River. The weather was fab and after a good lunch and throrough safety briefing, we were let loose with paddles and off down the river. Our raft was the best - we had Deepak as a leader and he took us down the best routes through the rapids. No-one fell out this first afternoon but we were soaked through. We stopped late afternoon and set up camp on a secluded beach at the side of the river. Day two begin early with a good breakfast. We packed up camp and climbed onto the raft. Within two minutes we ... read more

well, i have finally made it to pokhara, a sleepy little town in the foothills of the annapurna mountains. I began my trip last friday and flew into new delhi (on the same flight as the england cricket team) and seemed to hit the ground running. It was my intention to travel overland to Nepal however due to an outbreak of dengue fever and the dewhali festival it seemed that everyone else was leaving Delhi and the train i required was fully booked for 6 days, in the end i decided to catch a flight to Kathmandu. I spent about a day there where i spent most of the time avoiding touts and then caught the bus to pokhara, my first experience of asian buses, not good when you are 6 foot, the weather is hot ... read more
