Today we walked to Nayapul from Jhinu an 8 hour walk (very tiring). We finally got to see a beautiful view of the mountains which was nice. At lunch we stopped and played cards while waiting for our lunch ot come. I slid and fell down the stairs a bit only to be caught with a firm grasp by a man carrying something on his head. I got a sunburn from the intense heat and after lunch ended up having to put up my umbrella to protect me. The whole day Milan was about 20 minutes ahead of me so I had to ask where to go a couple of times. When I finally reached Nayapul he was gone - disappeared. I saw a bunch of people I knew from Jhinu but they hadn't seen him ... read more

Up at 5am (this is getting to be a habit) to get a mini bus back to Kathmandu and then a Tourist Bus onto Pokhara. Buses here were all arranged by Inrepid (they use Royal Mountain Travel locally - good recommendation). All the buses were comfy and well specced - much better than our India Exploits... The buses stop a few times for bfast and lunch - we ended up not paying for some food as the bus disappeared in a hurry and there was a bit of confustion - maybe on the way back?... Arrived in Pokhara late afternoon at a reasonable hotel called the "Lake View Resort". Its got a good view and is chilled out. Pokhara is just jammed full of ripped off NorthFace gear - rucksacks, sleeping bags, duvet jackets etc. Its ... read more

Namaste everyone Well the bus journey took quite a bit longer than anticipated, mainly due to breakdowns on the narrow, twisty and hilly road! (At one point we could see the vehicles queuing in the opposite side of the valley, 20 km away). We arrived in Pokhara at 5.30pm instead of 1.30pm and it was a wet and miserable evening, the monsoon obviously hadn't quite finished! A very comfortable hotel called Fishtail Villa after the large mountain that over looks the lake, only we didn't get to see it because of the weather. It's only a short stay as we're due to fly out at 6 am tomorrow, but we finish our trek here so perhaps we'll get to see Fishtail then! Unfortunately the weather isn’t any better next morning and after waiting at the airport ... read more

Tomorrow will be the start of a very interesting new experience for me, one that I've never had before so I will make this brief so as to not spoil the treat you'll be getting. Good-byes are a very strange thing. Binesh's sister didn't give me one, just said "you can go back to sleep" and I did. Binesh's mother invited me to come back any time and I thanked her. Binesh himself never said whether he wanted me to stay or not just said "this feels weird" and left with nothing more than a handshake. So I left today with Olivier for Pokhara sleeping most of the way - partially on his shoulder although it was not intentional. The three Chinese ont he bus were ever grateful for my being there in case a need ... read more

Pokhara Pokhara is a beautiful city on the banks of the Phewa lake and surrounded by the snow peaks of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokhara On a clear day, perhaps, the snow peaks being reflected in the Phewa Lake would lend Pokhara an enchantment, which was lacking on the day we visited it, because the sky was overcast. Clear days at Pokhara are a rarity. Pokhara is always rainy, it seems. No wonder, with 400 cm/year precipitation, what else do you expect? However, we were still thankful to the weather gods that the sky remained cloudy but it did not rain, nor was it too cold. Boating on the Phewa lake has a charm all its own, especially because the boatman allowed us to row the boat by ourselves, no matter that it was ... read more

Gez's last night so we went out a few drinks, me a few too many cause i felt pretty bad in the morning. Got up early though on the day of Gez's plane back to England and met up with my friend Tom I met in India who had arrived and did a little bit of shopping. Picked up about 300 developed photos of our journey together so far cause they are only about 6 pence per photo, a few crazy masks from this awesome shop that was full to the brim with hundreds of masks stacked up on each other. I waved good bye to Gez and me and Tom met with some crazy German guys called Heinzer and Christian for dinner. I said my goodbyes and the next day I got up early for ... read more

this week we spent a whole week doing the same thing we did last week in Kathmandu (nothing much) this time on the side of a lake at Pokhara. the only thing that changed is that we added one activity - complaining that we are doing nothing for 2 weeks. Pokhara is even more relaxed then Kathmandu surrounded by a lake on one side and green mountains on the other. there are also supposed to be large mountains above but the Monsoon clouds, that hang all day long, make seeing the mountains nearly impossible besides seeing then on the postcards. It was VERY hot and humid this week. the first day we did a 3 hr walk up to the "peace- temple" on a hill above the city. choosing the HOTTEST day of the week and ... read more

Well well, don't know where to begin...it's been ages since the last entry here....so much has happened....guesss i'll try to fill in the gaps from then til now: From Dharmasala Em&i took a bus ride to Rishikesh to do some white water rafting and maybe some yoga; we did the rafting which was great fun on some class 3 rapids but who the hell wants to do yoga in 45+ heat in a congested&smelly town??? After a couple of days we left Rishikesh and headed for Delhi to await Em's sister Nikki's arrival from Ireland. Can't say we found much to do in Delhi -saw the Red Fort and it's exactly (and only) that...a big, red fort- but fortunately the time did pass and before we knew it we were greeting Nikki at Indhira Gandhi airport ... read more

Having a touch of the three-month-itis after being on the go so long, and especially after the madness in China and Tibet we decided that a few lazy days in Pokhara was just what we needed. It also helped that we'd both had some tummy troubles, so some long sleeps, afternoon naps and lots of good books made for a happy recovery. Pokhara is a lot more laid back than Kathmandu and it was a nice chage from being so on the go, whether it be sightseeing, travelling or trying to get chores done. We found a neat little restaurant where we befriend the family, having the kids clamber over us while we waited for our meals, seeing them off to school each morning and attempting to help them with their homework in the evenings. We ... read more

First, I should apologise for the last blog and its length - it's interesting to see how a fifth of the readers dropped off before reading Part II; I don't blame them, especially when Part II had no photos. This time, I've deliberately made it refreshingly shorter. I feel much better now - stupidly, as soon as I got back I was already missing the clean air, tranquility, cooler (!) climate and views. I guess it's human nature that we always want what we don't have - or are simply fickle! One of the first things I had when I got back was a litre of fruit juice and a succulent, big steak! Simple pleasures. But these are often the best. I spent 2 more days in Kathmandu, which is a city now acting like nothing's ... read more
