Yesterday's Batman shopping extravaganza took it's toll on Glynn and today, he could barely muster the energy to get out of bed until the afternoon. The majority of the day therefore was spent at the hostel until the evening when Glynn felt up to going for food. When we were in Japan, we discovered a pizza chain called Shakey's Pizza that had a very delicious all you can eat buffet. On one of our many rambles around the shopping malls here in Kuala Lumpur, we happened to stumble upon a branch of Shakey's again featuring an all you can eat and all you can drink buffet for just 15.90 Ringgit per person. This is where we went tonight and boy did we eat! There was pizza of course but also chicken wings, chicken nuggets, mashed potato, ... read more

: Tioman Island: It's the most famous island in eastern Malaysia known for its peaceful and beautiful beaches. We took a 30-minute flight from Singapore to the Malay island on a small aircraft that seated about 20 people. One airline company has a monopoly on flights coming in and going out that tickets were the most expensive part of the trip. We stayed at the Berjaya Beach Resort, the main resort in that area. The beach was very tranquil and the water crystal clear. Jellyfish: While on the beach, we noticed that there were tons of tennis-ball size jellyfish around us. Andrew jumped out of the water like a little bitch only to find out that they don’t even sting. With the good news, Andrew then decided to torture the little fellas. He stacked them up ... read more

Shopping in malls and sitting Dan’s office. This is what I did in Kuala Lumpur. Having arrived from Brit-like New Zealand I entered a completely different and exciting new part of the world. The first things I do are go to the Asian equivalent of Bluewater and then sit in an office surfing the web. I am an tourist trailblazer! To be fair I needed a few last minute items for the trip; hence my numerous shopping excursions. Sit back and relax whilst I bore you with the details. * My camera has been playing up since I arrived in Wellington. Essentially it only takes photos intermittently. Sometimes it will. Mostly it wont. For me the essence of a camera is to take photographs but maybe I’m just being pedantic. I tried getting it fixed in Kerikeri ... read more

The boat trip from Langkawi was about 2 and a half hours long. We'd been on the boat for less than 10 minutes when the wee man that organised all our bags and stuff told us that we could move outside now that the rain had stopped. What he actually meant was that it was blazing sunshine outside. So out we went. Perhaps naively, we had assumed that we would be indoors for the duration of the journey, and that it would be raining, so the old factor 25 had been safely stashed away in the big rucksacks, which were in turn stashed under about another 40 rucksacks below us. We managed to find ourselves a nice wee spot at the back of the boat and soaked up the rays for the remainder of the journey. ... read more

Poor old Glynn. His cold has really knocked him out to the extent that yesterday, he barely made it out of bed. It's quite hard being ill in the heat over here because if you go anywhere, you find your body temperature going crazy: one minute you're enjoying the blissful relief of air-conditioning and the next, you're out in the hot, humid haziness of this busy tropical city. Glynn did get enough energy together in the evening to venture out for dinner but we took the easy option and went to Pizza Hut. We try to eat local food whenever possible but when you're not well, a few familiarities can make all the difference. Keen to get out of the room for a while, today Glynn felt up to exploring the Times Square shopping Mall, which ... read more

Two blogs at once is a little ambitious but bear with us whilst we present you with some more beach photos, these ones were of the tropical island paradise variety you will be please to know. On the seperate recommendations of Mark and Danielle we hot footed from the mild climes of the highlands to Kecil Palu Perhentian an island off the east coast of Malaysia. We traveled down with Patrick having waved goodbye to our mate Chris at the highlands hostel. The journey involved lots of speedy minibussing down very windy roads and a quick bite to eat - we went for the old trick of ordering 3 unidentified dishes from the menu and all ended up with very similar (delicious) spicy noodle soups. The difference between the three being the size of the noodles, ... read more

HI all! Bamboo rafting's not my usual cup of tea, but when Edward, our American IT guy said it'd be great to take some pics of Benedict Cat going rafting, i jumped at the idea. Organised by the Kuching City Hashers, the meeting point was about "10 miles out of Kuching" ( the capital of Sarawak ). At 8:30 am, after picking up Weiwei, our guide, we were on our way. Benedict, snuggled in Edward's lap purred contentedly as our car cruised into 10th mile Padawan town after 30 min. It was farther than expected as we drove along the winding roads of Semonggok Agriculture and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre ( orang utans, sunbears etc are here ...) More twists and turns past scenic Giam Village, and finally at 10.30 am, we arrived at Kampung Danu. Over ... read more

It was 3 weeks of lunches, dinners and parties that gave me a chance to catch up with my family and good friends before my trip to Mexico. It was really good to see everyone. Not so much a farewell as a new friend i met recently pointed out, but rather a get together with the ones who have played an important part in my life, the ones who have given me their support throughout the years and who continue to give me strength in spirit for my upcoming trip to Mexico. I did not manage to capture everyone's pictures in this entry, but you know who you are. You are in my thoughts as well.....( you will understand why later in my upcoming entries to come)... read more
