It's never too late to discover life and explore the possibilities that lie out there. That much I’ve come to realise having had to follow the typical Asian mindset of focusing on career and family first before anything else. I recently made a decision to leave my stable job and family to travel for an indefinite period and experience the magic that the world has to offer. To soak in the sights, sounds, colours and taste all the wonders of each place, learning and immersing myself with the people and their culture. Let the journey begin.

Munich or München in German means "Monk" in English and is named after the monks who first started brewing beer in this Bavarian region of Germany. Munich is rich with history and is simply famous for its sausages and beer of course. It was our first time in Germany and for the first 2 days we stayed in a hostel located in the heart of the city called Wombat Hostel which was supposed to be voted one of the best and cleanest hostels in the world. We booked a private room with an ensuite bathroom and it was one of the cleanest and most well maintained hostels we have ever stayed in. We then moved over to a nice 4 star hotel courtesy of Katharine's company as this trip was business mixed with some pleasure. Over ... read more

We had a great time in Aberdeen from the moment we touched down. Spending time with Katharine and her family, enjoying the clean fresh air and seeing green and yellow across the horizon as we drove along the countryside. Mum,and Dad took such good care of us and fed us well during our stay. Dad took us for a tour of the Glenfiddich whisky distillery which was interesting. He was brave and generous and shared some of his collection of whiskies and unfortunately for him, I loved his favourite bottle (Laphroaig) the best..ha ha We spent the rest of the days chilling out and jogging around the neighbourhood and burnt away all the farewell and welcome drinks we had consumed before coming here...... And I finally got to try haggis, neaps and tatties meal which was ... read more

After more than a year of living in a Spanish speaking country, we were more than ready to eat, speak and sleep in English again. It was sad to say goodbye to all our friends in Buenos Aires but the next chapter of our lives was waiting to be written...and we were excited... Armed with our "thousands" of pesos and our life belongings in our backpacks, we arrived in London from the southern hemisphere and had our first cup of latte from Starbucks as a welcome drink!!! Over the next few weeks we visited family and friends that were scattered across London. And it was great meeting Katharine's granny and some close friends I have only known by name. They welcomed us into their homes and took great care of us. Some of the highlights for ... read more

We were as excited as kids waiting to open their presents on X'mas day and Bariloche was our X'mas gift which we quickly "unwrapped" the moment we landed on the runway 3 days before X'mas. Most times, it's the people that help make a certain place you travel to a memorable one and other times it's the place you stay in that sets the tone for the whole holiday. This time round, we hit jackpot as we found a really lovely little casita or cabin located 23.4kms out of Bariloche town. Casita Llao llao (www.barilochehouse.com) was built with care and attention to detail and is owned and managed by Jamie and Shannie, a hospitable and enterprising young couple from California. Clean and modern amenities like DVD, 29inch TV, skype phone, WiFi and a fully equipped kitchen ... read more

Katharine, Cheryl (our friend visiting from London) and I took a flights over the weekend and visited Iguazu falls which we have heard so much about from our family and friends. We found a great hostel called Hostel Inn which had hotel amenities and a huge kidney shaped swimming pool which we spent quite a few hours under the sun. Iguazu falls was simply breathtaking and no matter how many pictures we took of it, we could not capture the beauty and power of its amazing presence. You have to be there to enjoy it.... All I can say is that it was worth a visit and do take the fast boat ride as it was one of the highlights of the trip. ... read more

Spring has to be my favourite season.... The name Buenos Aires when translated in English simply means "good air" and the air here in spring brings true meaning to its name as the air is permeated with a potpourri of fresh sweet smelling flowers that intoxicates anyone wandering about the city. Parks come alive again as all flora and fauna burst out with their beautiful colours that reflect on the smiling faces of everyone as they welcome the warmth of the sun after a really cold winter. Katharine and I made no excuses being outdoors again. Spending time with friends, enjoying barbeques and sipping mate. Running in the parks. Drinking coffee el fresco at a neighbourhood cafe and tucking in some ice cream Argentina is well known for. We had Cheryl our friend from London in ... read more

Argentina has been the world’s fifth largest wine producer for some time now. I never knew this ... (I just found out that the world’s first Barbie boutique was opened here recently and we actually saw the shop in Buenos Aires....oops back to the subject matter) Since I arrived in Argentina six months ago, I've been very intimate with 'Malbec' wines (we have loads of wine corks to prove our seriousness in being wine connoisseurs) which this country is famous for. I could not wait to visit Mendoza, Argentina's most important wine region to indulge in more of the goodness this place has in store. Katharine and I took the over night 'Andesmar' bus which left Buenos Aires at 8pm and arrived in Mendoza city at 9.30am early the next morning. The Andesmar bus was by ... read more

It's been quite sometime since I updated my travel blogs. I just never seem to find time to write. Time zooms by so quickly in Argentina. Katharine and I have been doing loads, experiencing many first's, meeting new friends, saying goodbye to old ones and spending great times with family and friends from home that paid us a visit during winter. Winter knocked at our doors almost immediately after I arrived in Buenos Aires which was in early May this year. It started getting really cold between July and August, the coldest months in Buenos Aires. Coming from Malaysia, a tropical haven for the sun tanning society, it was my first time experiencing a full winter ever, what more when it turned out to be what most "porteno's" (locals) claimed, the coldest winter in over 40 ... read more

Well, there is a catch to the title "the town that rocks and rolls" and it has to do with the history and what this town is proud of....... Tandil is a town located 6 hours away by bus from Buenos Aires and is well known for its beautiful countryside, its rocking rock and not forgetting its tasty cheeses. For the long public holiday weekend, Katharine, Emily and I decided to visit Tandil and take time out to get some fresh air, hike a little and indulge in some gourmet lip smacking cheese. We left on a Thursday evening by bus and learnt an important lesson about leaving town in the evening. Don't! It took us an hour just to move 3 km's and what a long ride it turned out to be. We were however ... read more

Katharine and I decided to head to Colonia, a little town in Uruguay for the weekend. We left on a friday evening by the fast ferry/boat called 'Buquebus' which was the most luxurious ferry I have ever sat on. I made us a little picnic basket and we had a nice 1.5 hour ride to Colonia eating blue cheese and pesto salad and sipping wine..... ...We checked into Posada Los Pinos, a little cozy bed and breakfast located in the centre of town. It came with breakfast and would have been perfect if not for the scanty looking toilet and a few bed bugs from the blankets! Katharine had been to Colonia earlier this year and knew the place and became my personal tour guide over the next 2 days. Colonia, a little town of streets ... read more
