Kuala Lumpur at dawn
Not sure if that's mist or smog. Probably a bit of both. Shopping in malls and sitting Dan’s office. This is what I did in Kuala Lumpur. Having arrived from Brit-like New Zealand I entered a completely different and exciting new part of the world. The first things I do are go to the Asian equivalent of Bluewater and then sit in an office surfing the web. I am an tourist trailblazer!
To be fair I needed a few last minute items for the trip; hence my numerous shopping excursions. Sit back and relax whilst I bore you with the details.

My camera has been playing up since I arrived in Wellington. Essentially it only takes photos intermittently. Sometimes it will. Mostly it wont. For me the essence of a camera is to take photographs but maybe I’m just being pedantic. I tried getting it fixed in Kerikeri where I bought it but that would have taken a week. A week that I didn’t have. The only choice was to cross my fingers and hope that the fault would be rectify itself. On the first day in KL I pootled over to the Petronas Towers: the worlds tallest building…from 1997-2003 depending on whether you include antennae or not. Either way, it’s tall. Definitely
worth a photo. No dice! The camera didn't want to do it. I decided that over the course of the next four months I probably would like to take at least some photos so opted to buy yet another camera. It’s better than the old one so it might encourage me to take more shots. This is the very long way of telling you that I only took a handful of pictures in KL. Don’t blame me, blame Pentax. (N.B. I have since figured out what was wrong with my camera: nothing! I only needed to format the memorycard. Pentax never mentioned that in the instructions. I hate technology. This Travelblog is turning into a camera consumer forum. I’m sorry for boring you. I certainly don’t like writing this stuff: I’m sure you don’t like reading it).

The photos I have taken since have mainly been of Dan’s office. I spent the remainder of my time with him as he finished off his website project. Even though Dan has planned this South East Asian trip for four months; even though it’s all he could think of for the last eight weeks it seemed that the actual departure date had
UFO's?
No. Of course not. They're lights in Dan's office. taken him by surprise. He was behind with his work and needed to wrap it all up beacause that's the didicated kind of guy he is. To be fair he had just started seeing a nice girl called Abby and was rather caught up in the heady world of romance rather than the boring world of flight times and reservations. We met up with her on the Saturday night and went to a bar to watch Arsenal v Charlton; a game I have since watched on two more occasions in two seperate countries. They like footy in this neck of the woods.
It was great to see Dan again after five months. Subsequent to catching up with each others adventures, we were soon arguing about everything: just like the old days!

Even though I have only been here a short time I found the people very friendly. Within a couple of hours of arriving in the city I had been invited to a old man’s house to talk to his daughter who was off to London. Though tempting, I had to decline as I was on a mission to buy a camera. I was later told by Dan that he too was propositioned by the same fellow sevaral months before with the same story. I felt so used.
I was also accosted by a group of Malaysian lads who wanted their picture taken with me. Maybe they could sense my easy-going charm. Maybe they were dazzled by my chiseled good looks. Maybe they found the appearance of a six-foot-three, pasty white bloke comical. Either way, it was nice to get the attention.

That was about it for KL. Dan and I will return here in a few months as part of our tour. I am sure I will experience a lot more of the city and it’s attractions. At the moment my image of the city is it being like a sweaty branch of Dixons.
