14/1/09 Bus to Nongkhio won't leave until 10:30 due to lack of passenger. I was in no hurry but just don't like to wasted time in this way as you couldn't go anywhere, all you can do is stand and looking at the bus. Rather cold and foggy in the morning, not until the sun broke through by 10 then I feel some warm. After Pakmong the road became more straight and flat and the speed pick up, the scene near Nambak was quite pretty when we drove through, then Nongkhio wasn't far afterward. Not much I could recognised about the town excepted the bridge and the limestones karst hill, now on the east side are full of bungalows. Not much I want to do here, only for continue transportation further east. Note Bus Oudomxay to NongKhio ... read more

8:30 our bus left for Oudomxay, at the same time I saw a new bus line destinate to Huyxai which depart every 2 days from Mengla. Seem like the cross country service getting more frequency. We drove on the new highway smoothly but about 20km before Mohan our bus came off the highway through a tiny opening, which was rather danger as it was only inch from the cliff. The explanation was a 15 yuan exit fee waiting at the other end of the higway. The border crossing was as smooth as it could be, USD 30 dollars plus 1 photo. no waiting time and no hassling. One note if you need to change money with those women around the immigration office on China side, their technique was confused you by giving you money in different ... read more

... read more

Vstala sva ze ob 6h, ker sva 1) hotela videti soncni vzhod nad Mekongom in 2) odriniti cim prej do Laosa. ... read more

As I was interested in seeing some stuff in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam, I elected to cross the border between Laos and Vietnam the hard way - up north at Tay Trang. It sure as hell would've been smoother to just fly straight from Luang Prabang to Hanoi, but where's the adventure in that? So after spending New Year's in Luang Prabang with some nice room company I sat my B-hind on the bus to Udomxai. A quite long ride on one hell of an ass-breaking bus. Crossing mountains means endless roads winding in every direction imaginable. After having the luxury of riding a minivan from Phonsavan to Luang Prabang it was sad to be back on a local bus again, but that's just how things are. This ride was again jampacked with people and junk, ... read more

Well this is odd...i'm writing this 2 1/2 months after we actually arrived in Laos! Therefore It's going to be a quick synopsis i'm afraid as, although my journal is pretty accurate, i have a lot of typing ahead of me and don't want my little fingers to fall off so ill keep it short n sweet(bit like myself then:) Here are the Photos of our trip from Thailand to Laos Via the Mekong Delta on the Slow Boat. It was a Super trip where we met many people...some of which - namely, Adelaide(or frenchy as we called her), Ivo(from Kerry) and Rob - we carried on traveling with for quite some time afterwards. There now, that short enough for ya?! Although the boat trip wasn't the most comfortable(sitting on hard wooden seats for 8 hours ... read more

Via Xishuanbanna komen we 30 december Laos binnen.

As always I hope you and yours are doing well. This is the 4th and final blog on laos titled hill tribes. Currently I am in northern Vietnam on a 3 day motorcycle trek. Today is day one and if tomorrow and the next day are the same as today I should have a few great photos to share, anyway, onto the hill tribes. The first hill tribe trek that I took left from Muangngoi on the Nam Ou river. First, let me mention that they are called hill tribes because they live on the “tops” of hills. We walked for a few hours with our guide before stopping in a village for lunch. From there it was about a four hour walk up to the Seang savang, a Khmu village. We arrived shortly before dusk ... read more
