A holiday from travelling in Paradise?... Initially I had planned to have a 12 day break in Bali, book into a nice resort with a pool etc and just relax from what I knew would be a gruelling schedule, recharge the batteries and read up on Australia, my next stop. Yeah I know tough life, who needs a holiday from travelling!! What I mean in reality is that I just decided to stay in one hotel or guest house for longer than 3 days without packing up all my belongings and plodding on to the next place. Bearing in mind Bali just isn't that big a place, where better to chill out, top up the tan and unwind a bit (At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!) In Singapore I realised I was ... read more

Our last night at Singapore was amazing as we were invited by Jon's friends Ant and Daph for a traditional BBQ. The amount of food that was cooked was more than even Jon's whole family could eat. Top quality steaks, prawns the size of my hand (Dad and Matt you would be in heaven). Thank you very much Ant and Daph. After deciding to save on some cash by sleeping at the airport (not as bad as Geneva Hutch!!!), we have arrived in Bali. The journey was only two and a half hours on the plane. Staying at a nice hotel, which is only $35 a night, and is a ten minute walk from Kuta Beach. However on this walk you will be asked about fifty times to buy a bracelet, sunglasses or fake rolex (there ... read more

Kaixo Danoi! Balitik berriro, Kutatik konkretuki. Aurrekoan esan bezala hemen ez dugu aparteko gauzarik egiten, ondo gozaldu, surfa egin, nahi dugun tokian bazkaldu, siestak, irakurri, surfa berriro (Ibaik nik baino gehigao, nahiko alper nabil, jeje), berreiro ederto afaldu, pelikulak pantaila handian ikusi eta ohera. Ondoko hondartzetara joaten gara gure motorrinoan, Changu, Balangan, Dreamland, Uluwatu (hemen ez gara bainatzen, jeje)... Egia esan ez gara hurrun joaten. Atzokoa izan zen irkan egin dugun irteera bakarra: sumendi batera igo ginen. Sumendi piloa dago Indonesian, Javako irlan are gehiago eta hemen Balin famatuak bi, guk igo genuena eta 3000m ko beste bat. Kontua da 3000m koa sakratuena dela eta egun hauetan zerbait ospatzen ari direnez ezin dela bertara igo. Lombok ere, ondoko irla oso polita omen da eta bertara joateko asmua genuen, Gili irletara ere... baina oso gustor... read more

It's pretty fair to say we both like Bali. For one thing it's very, very cheap here. We thought Thailand was cheap but Bali is even cheaper. So far on our travels we have stayed in some 'average accommodation' but in Bali we have struck lucky. We are staying in a resort (booked through a hostel website) that is almost 5 star. We have a huge air conditioned room with a decent sized bathroom and our own balcony overlooking the pool, gardens and sunset over Kuta beach. The resort is more famous locally for being a spa so we took advantage of this and had a balinese massage each... what an experience! The Balinese people are really friendly and cannot do enough to help, unfortunately for every ten helpful people there is one that rips you ... read more

(continued...) You don't have to think about it to define it: it's the "grass is always greener" phenomenon. What you have to think about is how to change this phenomenon into one that's going to make you a happier, better person. Isn't that what everyone wants: to be happy? Ask anybody what the secret of life is and they'll either say "to be happy," to something that basically means "to be happy." So why are so many people just not happy with their lives? Sure some are, but many people are wishing or dreaming for something else, and usually blaming something about their current life for the reason why they're not as happy as they could be. You don't have to be sad, depressed, or miserable to 'not be happy'. I mean, my life is great, ... read more

From about 2:30 to 4:30 pm on my brother's birthday, I hung around the pool reading my book and swimming. I then headed off to the beach to do some sunset surfing with the goal in mind of not spending a lot of money for a board. I succeeded on my third guy who was willing to charge me less than half of the other two's original prices. So I borrowed his rash guard (wet suit) and paddled out into the Balinese sunset on Kuta Beach. Totally worth it. I felt so at peace out on the waves. There were only a few people around me, none that much better than me, and all respectful of the place. I picked a good spot and rode some good sized waves. Probably none of the best waves I've ... read more

With only 2 weeks left of travelling....we decided to head back down to south Bali and start accumulating some new clothes and stuff for our move to Oz. We headed down to Sanur, after a recommendation from people we met in the Gili islands, and ended up in this weird homestay lodge. Instead of the usual room and bathroom, we had a room and open air bathroom/kitchen..........which was kinda cool as we could abuse the local supermarket and have a more normal life for a while. Sanur as a place was a bit of a non event........full of tourists and swanky hotels so we left after just 3 days to sample the delights of Kuta once again. We arrived back at the cheap hotel we’d been staying in before (8 quid for a decent room, pool, ... read more

We caught a plane to Bali (we were both very relieved to be leaving Jakarta) and wanted some time to relax before heading to Sydney to work. Due to the plane crash in Thailand about a month before we decided that we wouldn't chance it by using the cheap budget airlines (and also there is no alcohol served on these flights to calm the nerves) so we flew Air Asia which only had a late night flight. We got to Bali late that night and got a taxi to our hotel down the narrow winding roads to Kuta. We had booked to stay in a hotel as we knew we were arriving late and managed to fall into bed and sleep. Kuta is the very touristy bit of Bali as it is near the airport, it ... read more

Ok so we have been a little lazy....probably been about 3 motnhs since i last uploaded a blog..but that is because this is a travel blog...and the last 3 months we were not travelling..we were working very hard. Right, i'm gonna keep this short and sweet for 2 reasons; firstly, i just found out we have lost some entries due to server failure and secondly if i write to much now you will not buy my book in years to come where i plan to make my fortune... As most of you know we have been on koh tao...where my heart still is...we (Rich, Lisa and I) are now all qualified divemasters(DM). The course itself was really enjoyable (definately recommend the rescue diver to anyone) and we were so pleased we did it with Easy Divers. ... read more
