Our time in Bali will soon be over. Tomorrow we're leaving for Sydney. The past few days have been very relaxing. We spent most time reading by the pool. Today we went to exchange seven books, that we'd read during the last couple of days. We did some walking along the beach and we did quite a lot of shopping these days. Especially Philipp found some decent cloth in a huge store called Matahari. Things here are just so incredibly cheap. He bought 3 shirts, matching pants and ties. When he paid by credit card, the shop assistant would look at the credit card and go "thank you, Mr. Philipp, please come again". It was so funny to see. Every time the same show: "Thank you, Mr. Philipp." What other things are worth mentioning? A ... read more

We've in Bali for a week now. It's been a rather lazy week. We went on a single excursion to see some sights of the island. We saw several temples, a waterfall, black beaches, lakes and beautiful rice terraces. Most of the other days we were reading at the pool, sleeping and watching DVDs. After the first week we got kinda bored in our hotel. Even though their slogan was "there's always something new at Garden View" (the name of the hotel) things didn't really change. So we moved just 200m up the street. The new place is called Legian Village Hotel. The pool is not as nice, but it's closer to the important things such as supermarket and Internet cafe. This week hasn't really happened that much. Yesterday we went shopping. All we came home ... read more

Wow! We finally made it to Bali... It was a long and difficult way to get here. This is how we got here. Last week we spent a couple of relaxing days in Yogjakarta. We visited some religious sights such as Borobudur and Prambanan and saw the process of Batik and puppet making. Life was good and we enjoyed staying in the same place for some days in a row. Wednesday we left Yogjakarta heading to Mount Bromo in East Java. The drive to Mount Bromo was not only long (12 hrs) but also extremly hot. With shared a minibus with 8 other people. Hence it was full and the air condition could not manage to cool the bus down. Sitting, waiting, wishing, and sweating we were for a long time already and then the ... read more

Bali, is crazy! Not really what I expected. There are Scooters everywhere, and it's pretty dirty and people trying to sell me stuff left, right and center. Common questions: where are you from? do you want to buy? you want transport? I'll show you my shop. You want massage? Sir sir, wait! Sir, where are you going now? and more Honestly, ALL DAY LONG. I literally would have been asked 1000 times out of my four days on the island! It makes me think that I actually have friends. I arrived at 11pm (4pm NZTime), so after having spent all day flying and running round like an idiot for the past few days trying to sort myself out, I finally made it! "Welcome to Bali; drugs import = DEATH PENALTY"- quite the juxtaposition. I was ... read more

On To Bali !On to AusPaul Michael James Drea Well its been eventful here in Bali ! on the holiday front the weather has been great and the place is full of Aussie surfers. This is their version of spain. the place is well cheap, 50,000 rupee notes are given out by the ATM's and are worth just under three quid but very few people can change them. jeep hire was a fiver a day and a feast at bamboo corner, 3 main course plus two beers was three quid. Hired said jeep and eventually found my way up to Amed on the east coast. Very quiet and very good diving. did two dives and saw some great fish and reef action,(not the rasta type reef). The people are pretty friendly other than they are always ... read more

Indonesia was not on our original plan as a place to visit. Due to the riots against the Chinese in the late 1990's and due to the warnings in the guidebooks, we did not want to take a lot of risk. While in Burma (in December 2006), we met Soninha from France and she highly recommended Indonesia. So, we decided to spend three weeks in Bali, but avoid Java. We got discounts flights tickets off Air Asia's website, to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. On Feb 13, we took a local bus from near our hostel in Kuala Lumpur and reached KL Sentral. From KL Sentral, we took the airport bus (RM$9) to get to LCCT terminal (Low Cost Terminal) of the KL airport (KLIA). The airport bus ride took about 1 ... read more

We spent our 5 nights in Bali in a hotel called the Bali Hai Resort & Spa, which was on Kuta Beach! The hotel was really nice and the staff were very friendly - Although the local's who offered a variety of different services did become very annoying by the end of our stay here! From Transport, to massage, tacky jewellery & ice creams, it can be quite disturbing when you are trying to kick back and relax, on the beach or by the pool. Our intentions in Bali were just that, Kick back, relax and soak up the sun-rays! Our first day was spent by the pool in the morning and we headed to the beach in the afternoon - Where Gary learn't to surf! He hired a little man for a couple of hours ... read more
