Hey everyone, so this is what we got up to in Bali: We stayed in Kuta which is at the heart of tourism in a lovely hotel called the Barong, we had ac, free breakfast and there were 2 swimming pools that we were free to use. The weather in Bali is hot and humid, on our last day it was 34'C but this was the hottest day. We were lucky that the wet season had ended early, however there were a few downpours, and the occasional thunder. We were a 10min walk from the beach which was a pretty beach although slightly polluted with litter. The water was warm, we have never been in such a warm sea and we think this made surfing easier! The waves were great for us beginners (they have bigger ... read more

..if that ferry boat hadn't been a month ago you may have feared me dead. but its ok...we did arrive in Padangbai...an equivalently squalid port town. and luckily we had a full ride ticket that got us onto a van back to kuta. a vastly different kuta from the one we had just spent the past 10 days in. we followed a crumpled business card from a bunch of rowdy kiwi's we met back in Lombok all the way to the Bali Dwipa Hotel on Poppies II. which i am now sure is home to some of Kuta's most highly paid and saught after prostitutes...both men and women... the room was to the usual standard, it did however have its own unique feature, the instant bath aka. the drain that doesn't drain. nothing like showering in ... read more

Just Plane Mad! As promised at the end of our last blog we have a few airplane stories. The first happened on our flight from Hanoi to Saigon. Now we don't know if the passengers on the other side of the isle were scared due to hearing about the BA flight crash landing at Heathrow, or were just mad, but as soon as the Captain mentioned over the tanoy that we were about to start our descent and could everyone fasten their seatbelts, however 2 people took this to extremes and took out their motorcycle helmets and put them on. Now, I know we were flying the Vietnamese version of Ryan Air, but it was an English pilot and a good flight so were surprised to say the least. Now even if they were scared of ... read more

There’s nothing better than a bright sunny day on a Sunday afternoon. After deal with strong wind, gray cloud, and heavy rain ever since Christmas, I am very excited to see the bright sky today. Today, I decided to fill this very special day with my hobby: Sightseeing. Start from my neighborhood, I hop on one of families favorite meeting place on the weekends: Renon field. This place used to be a cultural museum. Heading my car on the way to Kerobokan, I took a road in which I never went through, and found out hills full of rice fields. I also try one of Seminyak’s well known café: Bali Budha. This café claimed that they plant the veggies themselves. So it makes the food are healthier as it contains less pesticides and chemicals. Something missing, ... read more

Happy New Year 2008 everyone! How’s your party last night? Mine was, quite weird, but I can say it’s rare. It was started early evening when my friends and I was afraid about not getting parking lot for my car. Based on the information I got from many of my friends that Kuta area would be incredibly full by vehicles, we managed to started earlier on 5 pm. It is a little bit early, but we rather did this to avoid traffic jam. Lucky for us there were still so many parking space on public areas such as Discovery Shopping Mall’s basement, Paradiso Bowling Alley’s, & Kuta Art Market’s. The traffic was bad on the way to Kuta, but it was fine in Kuta area. After I park my car on Paradiso Bowling Alley’s space, we ... read more

I only stayed here for a few days but it was still good. There is loads to do here and it is really cheap. Tried out some of my surfing skills and got a moped for the day (which i managed to fall off) to see as much of the beautiful island as i could. It was a bit tuch and go on the bike in Kuta, those people are crazy and there are no rules. Managed to get to a few temples and found more than a few rice fileds to photograph. However i don't have any photo's yet as i am having trouble with getting them off my memory card.... read more

Merry Christmas from Bali!!! Our flight arrived late at night on the 18th into Denpasar airport - where we were met in arrivals by a guy with our names on a board! How exciting! Bruce (Sel's uncle) had very kindly arranged for someone to pick us up and take us to the hotel (Sri Rathi) in Ubud. Such a contrast to our Singapore hostel where there were 20 other beds in the room! Beautiful garden, pool and good breakfast! It was great to meet up with Bruce again and to meet little Joey and Nita! We spent a few days in Ubud wandering around the numerous little shops selling arts and crafts - a lot of hand carved wood and stone etc. And we had some amazing food for ridiculously cheap prices! In a restaurant called ... read more

Dear All, So we finished in Singapore and headed on one of our shortest flights across to the small island of Bali...known to many as Surfers Paradise, and the honeymooners hot spot. We arrived late on the 1st December and booked straight into the hotel and hit the sack! These flights really take it out of you! Next day we woke up to have a wonder down to the beach and see what all the fuss was about, it took us nearly 3 hours to actually get to these golden sands, when they are only 300m away...reason? Shopping, perhaps the cheapest place we have been so far, and when you get bartering you can suggest any price walk away and they run down the street after you! Its soo good i think Sarah-Jane is on her ... read more

Oh what a change from the places we have been… Bali is pretty good. Not to say that China, Tibet, Nepal and India were bad at all (maybe India had some moments), but we feel like we are in our element now. On the first day we got here Dan and I immediately ran to the beach and jumped into the ocean after we found a place to stay. I think we both felt as if we had been baptized and had been cleansed of our strife (not sin) in India. We decided to stay in Kuta for the first few days to hang out, and get a feel for what we wanted to do while we were here in Bali. Kuta is the tourist capital of the island complete with 5-star hotels, more surf shops ... read more
