Apart from going to komodo for a couple of days dragon spotting, we spent a month drinking beer, surfing and reading in hammocks. Bali We managed to befriend an Indonesian guy nick-named 'Bob' who owned a beachfront bar (coolbox full of beers and some plastic chairs!) and his wife 'Nicky'. It's +32 degrees (C), the sun is directly overhead ... the low pressure system between here and australia (combined with a new moon) has made swells over 20 feet high - which to a landlocked calgarian look something like base jumping off the calgary tower!! Maybe today is a good day to sit these waves out!! At least we've been to the surf a few times already. With Dad's support in the push off Devin managed about 10 good rides on his first day surfing in Kuta. He decided "surfing rocks!!" --- until he got a mouthful of the Indian Ocean and decided that boogie boarding might be a better option. Phil on the other hand managed about 10 good bails! So i thought i would leave my trip up the middle of the australian outback for the time being, as there is a lot more that happened but have now left the country and more things are now happening since i've arrived in bali. Was a bit worried about my arrival and getting from the airport to where i was going to be staying, had arranged airport pick up, but had sent about 5 emails trying to confirm this and they never really made me feel comfortable that they would be there and as i was landing at about midnight, didn't want to be stuck in the airport all night. My Golden Week trip to Bali was EXACTLY what I needed! I dabbled in going to many places- Mongolia for some urks and Gobi Desert action, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Bangladesh, Malaysia’s Perentian Islands for some beach time and scuba diving, or heading to Bali for a week of diving, beaches, and partying. After some research, Bali was the winner! Going to Bali was unlike most of my adventures over the past 2 years. Instead of immersing myself in the culture and being on the go all the time, I relaxed, spent a lot of money, and did manage to see some cultural sights along the way. yesterday Andy got his hair dreaded at the Discovery shopping centre, we retreated indoors due to the all of a sudden downpour. it's crazy how it can be suny one minute and out of nowhere it is torrential downpour. I waited around for about the 1+1/2 hours while he got that done. I brought my boardshorts and a towel to maybe get in a session while that was happening, but surf was all flat yesterday. at kuta if was 1-2 feet, and by thge time it stopped raining enough to go stand on the beach and look at it it was about 0-1 ft.
